Something that just doesn't seem to exist in Cathays is a good fish and chip shop. Sure, there are more places that sell fish and ships than I 've ever seen before in my life. But they are all essentially kebab shops that sell some extra bits.
I find this quite hard to cope with sometimes. I'm a girl who loves her carbohydrates (I gave up crisps for Lent... it did not go well...) but they must be GOOD carbohydrates.
By that I mean, I would always choose a chunky chip over a fry (though I would, of course, choose a fry over a vegetable) because there's so much more to it.
Cathays Fish Bar is edging towards this, and I am so happy about it. Whilst it is just like every other take-away in every other way, it is the chips that excel them to the front of the pack. Prices are pretty average - around £1-2 - and the service is pretty good.
It's just that I've fallen in love with that slightly greasy, soft, light, chip! read more
