If only the Penylan Fish and Chip Bar had the business sense to move their store just a little bit closer to Pen-y-lan hill, they'd start absolutely raking it in.
Attending St. David's College and being part of the theatre department meant a lot of my half-term days were spent sat in the theatre auditorium painting sets, or constructing props, or rehearsing lines. Naturally, come lunchtime we'd all bolt for the nearest food establishment, which is Wellfield Road. However, on those rare days when someone had their car with them, I threw tantrums until we drove down to Penylan Chip Bar.
As already noted, their fish and chips are excellent. The food is cooked perfectly, and it's easy to see why they've won so many awards for it. My favourite part of the entire thing though is the fact that they wrap their food up in old newspaper-esque wrapping, giving it that wonderful One Foot In The Grave aura that other chip shops have been so eager to discard. read more
