Recently my 2018 Chevy Silverado was victim of a Hit and Run in front of my house . Cates facilitated the repairs in coordination with my State Farm Agent Mike Miller . It had been a rental truck and had seen some rough service but Cates did the repairs as if this truck was a show truck . The repairs exceeded my expectations , the finish was as good as if not better than a factory finish, it looks like glass. The color match was perfect . it is an absolutely beautiful truck that I am very proud of. I cannot thank the crew at Cates enough . To David and Chuck , you quite simply run the best body shop in Richmond Indiana and maybe even the state . You simply cannot find such pride in workmanship as these guys provided me. We were involved in a minor fender bender in February while vacationing. Upon returning, i took our 2012 BMW 528i to Cates for an estimate. In writing, I received an estimate for $816 from Chuck which seemed very fair. No parts were required. In May, i took the car in for repairs. Two days later, I received a call from Dave saying there was more damage than anticipated; consequently more labor would be required. Why Chuck didn't see this still baffles me but Dave said the car could still be fixed for "around $1000." A few days later I received the call that the car is fixed and the bill is now up to $1642. I was FURIOUS! When I picked up the car, I confronted Chuck with the paper estimate of $816 and he could only say that it was a more time-consuming repair than anticipated. My question remains: how could the price of repairs DOUBLE the week they had the car? I paid it even tho one minor repair I asked to be made wasn't made. Chuck said to bring the car back another time and he would make it right. At this point, I wouldn't take a pogo stick to Cates for repairs. Make life easier and do not use Cates for ANY body shop work. Thieves is an understatemen. read more

Both my family and I have used Cates for body work over the years, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Each time we've had any work done, it was completed when quoted, for what was quoted, and you cannot tell where the damage was before. That's a great body shop. Took my car here for an oil change and tire rotation. I got a phonecall from them and the guy told me that my tires were fine and that they really didn't need to be rotated. I was so impressed and appreciated their honesty, whereas I am sure other places would have rotated my tires anyway just to get that extra income. I also like it's a family owned business and not a chain, it's always nice to give support locally. read more

Avoid at all costs! Especially if you are a woman because they will rip you off like there's no tomorrow. Save yourself the hassle and potential small claims court trip. They called me to pick my car up after I took it to get the speedometer fixed and so I paid and left. I was already a bit upset because they had it for a week before telling me they needed to replace the battery to work on it. I agreed even though I would have done it myself to save that marked up price. Then they kept it for another two weeks during which they said they were waiting for a part. On my way home from the shop the speedometer stopped working again. I called to ask about it and they said they couldn't find the part. So they never fixed it but charged me over $100 just to look at the car and let me leave with it still broken. They also replaced my Mom's transmission, which cost a fortune, but a month later it messed up again. They said that it was the transmission again. So apparently they put a defective transmission into her car or something and expected her to pay twice to fix the same problem. I wasn't aware of this when I went to the shop or I'd have avoided it. read more
