I recently got to experience the professionalism and expert services of Catering Beyond Borders as they were hired by my sister and her husband for their wedding in early 2019. Their entire operation was clearly well organized, planned, and detailed. Every individual employee I interacted with was respectful, friendly, helpful, and professional. I was thoroughly impressed that no detail was ignored. An example: The dinner tables each had a set of decorations involving a mirror. Catering Beyond Borders had window cleaner, paper towels, and rubber gloves for each employee to wear while handling and wiping down the mirrors, in order to be absolutely certain that every mirror was spotless for the display. I know this sounds like a small thing, but I feel it is attention to all of these small details that added up to a superb event. The wedding planner, Esther, was a fantastic organizer and coordinator. Any time one of us had a question, she had the answer. When necessary she would not hesitate to delegate tasks to someone else on the team. She was also exceptionally calm and collected throughout the entire process. The lead bartender, Kyla, was knowledgeable, professional, and flexible with the provided beverages. We had a unique scenario for a few of the kegs as they had a different type of connector than the industry standard, and she took it all in stride and there were no problems. I have been a bartender for a number of years in my past and I was thoroughly impressed with Kyla and the other bartender's efficiency and professionalism behind the bar. I did not personally get a chance to meet the head of the kitchen staff, but I did witness him constantly communicating with his team and keeping everyone on schedule. The food itself was also wonderful and there was plenty to go around - many other guests mentioned to me that they also sincerely enjoyed the food. To reiterate, I am completely and thoroughly impressed with the entire Catering Beyond Borders organization and their professional skill and talent for catering and coordinating my sister's wedding. I am not yet married, but I can say with certainty that when I do and am planning a wedding, Catering Beyond Borders will be the my first call for catering and coordinating services. We used Catering Beyond Borders to cater our wedding reception last weekend. They had a fabulous spread of edibles prepared for us before we returned from our outdoor wedding. Flavors from around the globe graced our tables. Hawaiian, Asian, Indian, middle Eastern and South American dishes delighted all our guests and drew tons of favorable comments. Since my wife and I opted to have an Indo-Western wedding, a celebration of not only our love of one another but of the Indian culture and their incredibly intricate, colorful, and joyous marriage ceremony and traditions, it was imperative to us both that we source the food for our reception from our favorite Portland area Indian restaurant: Swagath. With that in mind, our wonderful venue, West End Ballroom, directed us to one of their partners, Catering Beyond Borders, a full-service caterer that specialize in working with local ethnic restaurants. We were not an overly-particular couple outside of ensuring that our guests have the very best food and drinks that we could provide; knowing good times tend to stem from that, not usually the from the quality or china of the fold of a knapkin. From our first meeting with Esther, Richard, and Michael, we knew immediately that their focus was similar to ours and that we'd found our catering partner. In time, we came to realize we'd found much more than that. Richard and Esther made developing our menu, choosing complimentary items, and catering to even our most stubborn, bland, and particular palates a complete breeze. They even met with us for dinner at another Indian restaurant partner of theirs to have us try some different variations of dishes we'd chosen and some of their favorites that we ultimately added to our menu. Michael, being a wine connoisseur like my wife and I and having previously run a wine shop, was a huge help in rounding out not only our wine and beer selections and directing us to the best local distributors, but refining our chosen His and Hers cocktails and making sure we didn't end up buying far too much of anything. We also have them to thank for connecting us with our florist, Red's Creations, who perfectly captured our vision for the ceremony and reception with his gorgeous arch, our Mala (garlands), and the centerpieces for our reception. Esther, Richard, and Michael were amazing about working within our budget and money always seemed like the very last concern or topic during our meetings and communications. We were never once made to feel like customers and, over the months that we worked together to ensure all the details were correct, they ultimately ended up even closer to us than friends, feeling like extensions of our family. Embracing the three of them as the night came to a close was bittersweet, knowing we wouldn't see each other nearly as often, but we could feel their happiness and pride not just at having put together an event that exceeded even our wildest dreams, but at witnessing our union and seeing the two of us deliriously happy together. read more

This is not a review for a bunch of caterers. This is a testimony about an amazing couple named Esther and Richard, who have amazing staff that basically feels like a family. Myself and my wife got married last weekend, and it was the most amazing day, thanks in huge part to Catering Beyond Borders. I'm not going to continue writing a long winded 5 paragraph statement about how amazing they are, how flexible, timely and professional they hold themselves, or even how they went out of their way to make anything we needed happen. We went with them to cater our big fat German wedding where they served the best German potato salad I've ever had. We were initially going to use the Rhinelander, but this small firm seemed more attentive to the details of our planning process. Though we held it at a somewhat remote location (Champoeg State Park) they executed flawlessly. We also had them cater our rehearsal dinner the night before with their Hawaiian menu which was to die for. We'll be happy to use them for any future anniversary parties. My friend had them cater for their party last year. It was actual food, actually ethnic and they were down to earth guys. For sure will want to use them for parties. Never ate so many crawfish!!!! And, they work with Prost, one of the best beer places in PDX!!! read more

In all areas, Catering Beyond Borders receives all stars. They catered our wedding in January of 2019. We were specifically looking for a caterer to provide Hawaiian food, and we were not disappointed. We first met with Richard and Esther at the restaurant that they coordinate with for Hawaiian food. They bought us dinner and we discussed possible menu options. Richard and Esther created a delicious and well rounded menu. Esther let us know early on that she could provide coordinating services and we are so happy that we chose to use her as a coordinator! She was detailed, easy to communicate with, thoughtful and knowledgeable about coordinating a wedding. She even coordinated a spa day at a great salon in West Linn for the bridal party to get manicures and pedicures, complete with mimosas and snacks. Kyla Rose worked with us on beverage options. She was extremely flexible with our schedule, accommodating to our wants and needs, and a solid bartender during the wedding! The day of the wedding, Esther and the CBB team removed all stress from us and our families. They set up the entire venue, made sure the wedding ran smoothly with wonderful food, and cleaned up afterwards. During the wedding, there were many staff available to help guests and to ensure that our wedding was perfect. We HIGHLY recommend CBB for any event, particularly a wedding! read more

Not your cookie-cutter banquet food! When my stepsister told us she was using this ethnic food caterer for her wedding reception I was excited. My wife and I are big fans of Bourdain & Zimmern on the Travel Channel, and I couldn't wait to see what my sis and Catering Beyond Borders had in store for us. It was amazing; beautifully laid out, incredible food, everything was labeled with both the name of the dish, the name of the restaurant that the chef who cooked it came from, and, in many cases, a list of ingredients. The latter was helpful for my wife, who was going through a brief flirtation with vegetarianism at the time. Much of the food was familiar, like kalua pork, and drunken noodles. Some were less so, like an African lentil dish, and some kind of Persian appetizer (good though.). My favorite was called something like Kick Chicken. Awesome! It was spicy, hot and peanuty all at the same time, and it tasted like it had been cooked over charcoal. Sis said they were great to work for, real accommodating, and that their staff even lent the band a hand carrying in their equipment. read more

My husband and I were delighted with the quality of the food and service at catering beyond borders. We're an Indian-American couple, and had Indian & Mexican food at our fusion wedding. The food was excellent, and we've had so many friends tell us it was some of the best wedding food they've had. The Indian food was spot-on (even according to the Indians at our wedding), and the Mexican food was a huge hit. We had Beyond Borders cater our School fundraiser dinner which featured the Von Trapp singers. We went with a Viennese dinner cooked in our kitchen and served mostly family style to the 40+ attendees. It was fantastic. Our guests are still raving about the delicious dinner and of course, the wonderful performance by the Von Trapps. Beyond Borders worked very hard to stay within our budget so that we could maximize our contribution to our school. read more

I was recently at an event that was catered by this business. The presentation of the food was very poor and unprofessional. The food appeared to be prepared in someone's home kitchen not the premier restaurants they advertise on their website. The food did not taste authentic. read more
