On the opposite side of the store, you'll find an impressive selection of local and Vermont-made products, creative work from regional designers, and exclusive items you simply won't see at Walmart. During a recent visit, I noticed two small carts positioned near the front door, highlighting the store's thoughtful attention to customer convenience. The owner and cashiers are warm and welcoming to everyone, whether you're from the area or visiting from out of town. Unfortunately, some reviews misinterpret what Rail City offers. It is not a Walmart--rather, it is a one-of-a-kind Vermont store that proudly supports local products and extends genuine friendliness to all who enter. I highly recommend visiting Rail City for a truly unique and delightful shopping experience

The Vanilla bottle is $21 but if you go to Walmart or Target you will see the same bottle priced at $14. If you are someone looking to save money instead of waste it you would not be shopping here. They used to have a small cart by the front but the manager started to hide the cart in the back since coming in with my son who is brown. I assume they think he will steal just based on the way he looks.

I came back into town for a few days and stopped by to get some food for my trip and noticed they had a cafe serving sammie's and smoothies and had to try one. They were all dedicated GF which was so amazing since I have celiac disease and it's really hard to find good freshly prepared food without risking cross contact & getting sick. I got the avocado toast sandwich and it was AMAZING! Also grabbed a matcha latte & pumpkin pie on my way out which both hit the spot. Hailey the owner (I hope i spelled that correctly) was the sweetest and I had a great conversation with her about nutrition. The co-op itself has so many gluten free, vegan, organic and locally sourced food options to buy in bulk or by the package. I love the environment they create here and the workers are always so friendly and helpful. They also have a section of pre-made food (most of which is vegan) and it all looks freshly made and delightful! The co-op is definitely one of the only places around here that i miss on the daily basis :,) Definitely recommend stopping by!

If I'm going to be anywhere near the Eastern Townships, I detour to La Rumeur. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They know everything about the products they sell, and they go above and beyond to be helpful. It's also really cute! The whole space has a country store look and feel. You get the sense that you are in a family store (even if it probably isn't) where everyone takes pride in what they sell. If you are near either one of their two locations, don't miss the opportunity to grab a cookie!

They have a lot of cheese from Quebec, France and the Netherlands. In fact they have a lot from all over Europe as well. You can ask for a sample before you buy the cheese. With the cost of some of these cheeses, that only makes sense. We picked up some Quebec cheese this trip but on past trips we bought Dutch cheese. The bakery side has good food as well. We have tried their breads and croissants and would definitely buy them again. There is a case full of pies, tartes, and cakes for sale and we are tempted to bring one home. They always have someone working who is fluent in English if your French is not good.

Elderberries are purported to be one of the highest antioxidant foods and as a life and wellness coach, I recommend it when someone needs an immune system boost to stave off the common cold, shorten the flu, and reduce sinusitis. That said, there are also other potential benefits of the juice of the fruit that have yet to be fully confirmed, yet are sufficiently awesome enough to give it a try. The store and seating area is gorgeous. With the breeze and sunshine, it made for a perfect day to look over the countryside and the crops below. Phil and Andrea, the owners, are passionate about what they do and it shows. Andrea makes every product they sell: pure elderberry juice, elderberry syrup (that is infused with honey, ginger and cinnamon); elderflower lemonade sweetened with the elderflower honey; red pepper jelly, rhubarb lime ginger compote, elderberry preserves, slightly spicy kale chips (no elderberry, but an awesome snack). They also extract the elderflower honey and her that as well for purchase. The juice itself is aptly described as part blueberry, part blackberry. It's slightly tart, but as you would use only 2 teaspoons a day for vitality purposes, it makes a great addition to boost the antioxidants of a smoothie, can be mixed in a tea, a lemonade, or even a club soda. The syrup would make a wonderful addition to a spritzer or as a delectable sauce for pancakes, waffles, or ic cream. You can taste the spiciness of the ginger and the cinnamon (both excellent for health-the former is an anti-inflammatory and the latter lowers blood pressure and stabilizes blood sugar). The lemonade is perfectly sweetened-just a hint, which allows the lemon favor to shine through. They serve it in tall tumblers sprinkled with fresh elderflowers and if you wish, a sprig of fresh mint (I recommend this). A really wonderful place to visit and to taste and buy the numerous homemade products made from their own gardens and crops.
