We were referred to Conor from a friend for surf lessons on the North Shore for our son. Conor was very responsive and easy to schedule with when we have many afterschool programs and things going on which we really appreciated! We started with a few private lessons to get my son comfortable on a surf board and in the water. Once he was used to the water we did a group lesson. I was not in the water with my son but before we got started with the lesson Conor had him warm up before getting in the water and went over the rules to keep him safe. He was very good with the kids and everyone really seemed to enjoy his coaching. My son enjoyed all his lessons with Conor and I have referred more than a few people in my community. It also helps that he takes credit cards and is licensed in Hawaii! There are a also more than a few companies selling lessons but they only take cash or their business is illegal. We booked a private lesson for my husband, my 11 year old, and myself. Conor was amazing! First of all, he happily took our 11 year old where a lot of other places require a higher minimum age. He was so patient with our rambunctious and energy filled son. Second, I thought his pricing was more than fair for the one on one attention we got. Honestly, my husband and I were happily exhausted before Conor or our son was! We would go back to him when we come back to Oahu. All three of us got up on our boards and rode waves successfully! Conor explains the rules of the road/waves, encouraged us all the way through the lesson, and never gave up on us even when we might have ourselves. Honestly, it was just so much fun and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and out in the surf. Easily best experience on the island! First of all, you HAVE to try to surf while visiting Hawai'i, but doing it with an experienced, caring instructor is the way to go. I've done a lesson in the past with a group session where you get maybe 5-10 minutes of out-of-water instruction and you're out on your own (Waikiki). I preferred this experience so much more! More private and we felt like we were well taken care of. Conor was amazing, he got my non-swimmers (love the water, but not quite strong, confident swimmers yet) on the board with him and they had an experience they'll never forget. Seeing them stand up and enjoy it just as much as I did was indescribable. In fact, they haven't stopped talking about it since and want to go again. We booked Conor spontaneously on his website (https://www.808catchawave.com/) just a day before we flewn to Ohau. He offered a better pricing compared to other schools. The confirmation SMS short after and he sent us the location details for the next day. We booked a 2 people summer Special for 2 hours and met at the location next day. Because of roadworks we stuck in traffic and were late ca. 30 mins but Conor was very patient and waited for us. He gave a perfect crash course and we had 1-on-1 special training for 1 hour each. Conor gave very good insights during this short time. He teaches with a holistic Approach that helps you a lot if you are going to try surfing on your own (unlike some push-n-dash Schools). Learning how to surf with Conor was an AMAZING experience. I'm usually terrified of the water, but after this, I can't wait to surf again. My sister and I found out about Catch'a Wave from my boss at work, who highly recommended Conor. It was both our first time surfing, and it was very fun and memorable. Conor was very patient and very thorough with instructions, technique, and safety. He gave us a lot of tips and corrections so that we could fine-tune our surfing craft and stand up on our board as much as possible. I was able to stand up almost every wave and it was such an adventure riding them out. He even let us stay an extra 30 minutes, which was very nice of him to do. Conor is the zen of surfing lessons- calm, chill and super knowledgeable. He was with my two kids and I today and did an amazing job. One-on-one instruction and the patience of a stone with us tourists- that kept flailing around In the surf. He got us all surfing (the kids better than dad for sure!) and left us all with a great experience and memory. He even offered to let us know what beach will be best for surfing in a few days when we are ready to try it out on our own! Connor was so nice! I didn't actually get a lesson from him because I just scheduled a lesson online the day of and he had to cancel because he took his dog to the vet because he didn't know he was going to have an afternoon lesson. But he called immediately and apologized for having to cancel the lesson. He was very nice and offered to do the lesson another day or if he could refer me to another person to do the lesson. I really appreciated his kindness and helpfulness. I would have tried a lesson from him the next day if I was still in the area. read more

Conor was absolutely wonderful, he constantly encouraged me but he also reassured me that I was okay to lay down and ride the wave! He was very kind and knowledgeable and made the experience fun! I had a great time with Conor as my surf instructor today. I've only done private lessons before and today was my first group. He's a great instructor and keeps you calm in the water and it's a great job rotating all of us so we had time to rest before we paddled back out for our next turn. I would definitely do a lesson with his group again - he helps put you into waves that you can stand up and feel confident on and toes you out to the lineup if you get tired or he wants you to rest. What a great day in the sun on the North Shore. I have horrible balance and Conor was super patient and understanding. He continued to have confidence in me and encouraged me that I could do it which I finally did. My sister and I are new to surfing and we had a great time learning from Conor. He ran through some important basics stances in land, then made sure we had lots of practice time on water. He was very patient with my sister and I, making sure that we reach our goals for the day!
