A wonderful downtown restaurant for a good dining. We stopped here without earlier reservation for dinner during our road trip. The restaurant was busy, almost all the tables were taken and few of them were marked as reserved. However, we were greeted with a nice welcome and seated within 15 minutes. Nice ambiance, great service, delicious food. We had the Crab Cakes and Catch 22 Fisherman's Platter, nicely prepared and presented. The grilled lobster was nicely done, crab cakes were delicious, scallops were nicely seared and juicy. The servers were friendly with wonderful and prompt service. We went last night I I wish you would of told us before we got seated that there was no heat. We ate with our coat on and our feet was up on the chairs. We would of left. The server was very nice but the food not so so. What happen to this restaurant. I taught that after Chateau A Pape burn down the owner had establish at Catch 22. Had a great dinning experience here! The interior was on the dim side with blue circular lamps on the walls. Almost like a dinning room inside a ship! Went to the restaurant around 5pm, and there were a couple tables already occupied. As it got later, around 6pm, more parties of people filled up the space. Staffs were friendly and attentive. I was indecisive and asked lots of questions and asked for suggestions, and the waitress was patient and helpful. Really appreciate that! Menu got lots of appealing dishes. Decided to try Fisherman's platter: half lobster, haddock fish fillet, shrimps, scallops, crab cakes, fresh cooked vegetables (broccoli, carrots, and yellow strips guessing was potatoes? Or white carrots?), and mixed rice. I enjoyed Fisherman's platter as it got a nice seafood variety as well as carb and vegetables. Very balanced meal! Not strongly season nor was it oily, which is how I usually prefer my meals. There were black pepper and salt on the table, so if needed to, could use that to season it more. The plate also came with a small cup of melted butter. Besides the seafood, the mixed rice and vegetables were perfectly cooked and were delicious as well! Waitress provided me a nice hot wet towel to wipe my hands after eating the lobster, which was considerate! I got crème brûlée for dessert and requested it to be served hot. It was very cozy, hot and sweet! Definitely a pricier meal, but considering how much seafood I ate, I would said it was a good deal (especially comparing to SF in California)! Paid with Apple Pay. Our Maritimes adventure begins in Moncton. We stayed at the Rodd Moncton. See that review also. A short three minute walk from the hotel is this great restaurant. We started with the bacon wrapped scallops swiming in pure maple syrup. Holy Shit! They were amazing. We ordered Canadian wine just because. It was OK but I wouldnt hunt it down. Velvet had the house salad. She loved it. I had the Seafood linguini. It had lobster, shrimp and big scallops in a very flavorful cream sauce. I really liked it. Great seafood in all it's variations and forms. We came for a late dinner and the dining room was still full. I spotted some tourists we've been bumping into all day. We started with the escargots, shared the lobster roll (with sweet potato fries) and the seafood casserole. The escargots came swimming in butter, but was not too salty which was very much appreciated. The lobster roll was the most reasonably priced lobster roll that we saw on the whole trip. It was packed with large chunks of lobster and made for a lighter dinner option. The seafood casserole was on the other end of the spectrum, with multiple types of seafood baked into a creamy cheese sauce. So heavy but so good! We ate at this restaurant because it was one of the only restaurants open late when we arrived in Moncton. The service was really good and staff were really nice. Go here if you're super hungry! Big portions! Casual dining. There's some lobster tanks in the back of the restaurant...you can see your food whilst still alive. I didn't like my dish (coquille st Jacque) ... wasn't what I expected. Too much cheese and the scallops were tiny. The fisherman's platter was plentiful, but mostly only the lobster was good. Came in on a Tuesday night around 7pm and was greeted by a very friendly server. The place was packed, so I took a seat at the bar area. The decor is dated late 90's and the place is showing it's age. It started off poorly with a fresh warm beer, the server iced a fresh glass for me and poured me another slightly colder one. I started with the chowder as it was recommended, to my surprise it showed up with a skin on the top, which tells me that it's already served and sits under heat lamps. It actually was not hot, but it was decent. It went downhill from there with the "devils duo" or something like that. The only hot thing on my plate were the veggies that were soaked in butter. There was nothing devilish about the overcooked scallops and mediocre shrimp served on what I'm sure was jarred tomato sauce. $60 for a beer, chowder and a main is very steep considering the poor quality of the meal. I've been back a few more times and tried out the seafood platter. Love the plating, the food is tasty and the atmosphere is great to meet up with friends or co-workers. A colleague suggested she wouldn't have minded a bit more zip to the flavour of her meal, but that's the worst I've ever heard. Service hasn't ever let me down. read more

Awesome seafood restaurant, true gem of downtown Moncton. My guests and I were quickly seated by a nice waitress, she was excellent explaining all local beers from next door. I had lobster jambalaya and it was awesome, huge portion, yet well prepared with very good ingredient. It's open kitchen, water tank with fresh lobster swimming (but never smelled), and fancy bar section as walk it. I would definitely dine there again. I came here with a colleague of mine after work and was presently surprised with everything. We had a nice seat by the window when we came in. The place was steady but picked up as the evening went along. Jessica was our server and was awesome. She was attentive and fun, gave good recommendations and was very professional. My colleague had the the Lobster Cock tail and I had the Cajun Coconut Shrimp to start. Both were amazing in flavor. A couple of my shrimp seemed to have a weird texture on only one side of them. None the less they were great. For the main course, my colleague had the halibut and I had the catch of the day, blackened salmon. I had the roasted potatoes for my side along with the veggies and both sides were fantastic. The only thing that I could have done without was the table bread and butter. Location: In the downtown core. Street parking is available (metered) and free on weekends. The place: OK. I say this with all due respect - but the place reminds me of one of those all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants you find in US strip malls. It doesn't really have a whole lot of ambiance and seems to cater to Moncton's senior citizens. Now, not that there is anything wrong with this - we just felt out of place there. Also, there are no lobster in the aquarium - should there be? Hmm... The goods: I don't quite understand the raving reviews of this place. The food was OK but nothing to write home about. I got the Devils' Duo which included scallops and shrimp in a tomato garlic sauce, vegetables and I swapped out fries with a Caesar salad. The salad was great (a bit too much dressing but no big deal). The scallops were OK. The shrimp looked like the frozen variety that you buy in grocery stores but were fine. Obviously I can't 100% state that this was the case but that's what I suspect. The sauce was good, as were the vegetables. My friend had the shrimp jambalaya and it was OK. Service: When we arrived, we didn't have a reservation. We didn't have a reservation because we didn't expect to come here. So when we walked in, I asked if we sat ourselves or if we had to wait to be seated. I asked because literally, every other restaurant in Moncton has a sign that states 'Please wait to be seated' except this place. The person was a little snarky with her reply and I didn't appreciate the attitude. Our waitress was very nice. That said, when my friend ordered her dish, she asked if she could swap out the potato side for salad. Her dish was on the same menu as mine, where it states at the top that DISHES include X, Y and Z. The waitress didn't seem to understand what my friend was asking and perhaps I'm mistaken, but her tone seemed a little condescending when she told her that jambalaya was a rice dish. Umm, yeah, thanks - we know what jambalaya is. Apparently that dish didn't include potatoes. And we're supposed to know this, how? Anyway - on her way to the loo, my friend overheard the waitress talking about how my friend was confused or some shit like that, to other staff. Not cool, or professional for that matter. I was quite disappointed in the food here. Visiting from NYC, I looked forward to the seafood & this restaurant came highly recommended by a few people. I started with the bacon wrapped scallops which I thought were mediocre. I've had better from Costco. My entree was the red snapper with the house salad & roasted potatoes. The fish and the Cajun sauce accompaniment was very bland. Although I have eaten at restaurants in New Orleans, I really wasn't expecting that caliber of flare. I did, however, expect it to taste like the description on the menu - it didn't. Because I really wanted to have something nice to say about the food , I decided to order dessert. I had the lava cake with vanilla ice cream. The cake tasted like bootleg Hostess cake and the ice cream was meh. Here is the best part of the experience. The service. All of the wait staff was super pleasant & accommodating. When my server noticed I didn't eat the fish, she asked me about it. I told her I didn't care that much for it - exact words - and without any prompts, she took 50% off the cost of the dish. If she hadn't, I would have still given the servers a good review. I struggle to write this review as I had quite a unique experience. Nonetheless, the staff was exceptional and I'll be willing to give this another try next time I'm back in Moncton. This seafood restaurant was recommended to me by a friend so I decided to check it out. Being a maritimer I didn't feel the need to pay $40 for lobster when you can buy them roadside back home but I do have a soft spot for clams... And it seems clams aren't the easiest to find so when I saw them on the menu, I was sold! I ordered the lobster bisque to start and the half and half mussels and clams in wine sauce. The bisque was well presented and had a little lobster shaped puff pastry with it. There were nice pieces of lobster in the bisque and although a bit too tomatoey for me, was not bad at all. I was very pleased when my plate of mussels and clams arrived and couldn't wait to dig in. The mussels were delicious.... But unfortunately the clams were sandy. Now for anyone who enjoys clams,you know that a little sand can sometimes remain... But we're talking almost beach in a shell here. It was quite unpleasant and as good as they tasted, I just couldn't do it. I don't know if this was a bad batch but the staff ensured me that they had soaked the clams... Needless to say I didn't eat them. I did finish the mussels which were great. The wait staff was extremely apologetic and removed the dish from my bill. The manager also came over and assured me that the kitchen staff had been notified. They handled the situation very well and I will give is place another try next time I am in town. read more

They have a nice big menu with lots of seafood options. Most of us had the lobster which came with a side of potatoes and vegetables. Vegetables are probably the best around town and are sautéed in butter. My fiancé ordered the lobster jambalaya and the coconut shrimp as his appetizer. When his food came, he got the shrimp app and the shrimp jambalaya. He expressed that he ordered the lobster one, and our server proceeded to show us her notepad and that shrimp jambalaya was written down- obviously she wrote it incorrectly and probably got mixed up when he added the shrimp app. She then asked if he wanted her to take it back. Good service would admit that it was the server's mistake and immediately take it back and get the correct entree. However, another in our party felt bad and traded his lobster for the incorrect entree. The server offered rice pilaf on the side but it's not the same as the jambalaya. The caramel creme brûlée was good- almost a 10. The top was torched too long so that the upper layer of creme was a weird texture but the bottom layer was nice and creamy. As much as the locals talked about it, I expected a great meal. What I received was a really mixed bag. I walked in and didn't immediately find where I was supposed to stand in order to get served. Servers whisked by a few times before I walked toward the tables and was approached finally. After sitting and receiving my water, it was five minutes before I was greeted; the restaurant was roughly 70% full with a couple of large parties, and the servers were buzzing around those tables nonstop. The server was nice enough, and made a few suggestions. Strangely enough she tried to steer me away from the Fisherman's Platter (lobster, shrimp, scallops, crab cakes, and a nameless whitefish) onto a dish without lobster. Looking back, I wish I had. I started with the lobster bisque, which was (as another reviewer put it) far too tomato-ey. It's the reddest seafood bisque I've ever seen, although the taste was better than it looked. Still it was subpar. The main course was what disappointed me. The 1/2 lobster was overdone and rubbery (cold, to boot). Totally forgettable. Both the fish and scallops were underseasoned and frankly, within 30 seconds of being underdone. The shrimp had a fantastic taste, as did the rice. The vegetables were floppy and underseasoned as well. I mistook the crab cakes for underdone hush puppies; the base mix appeared to have been blended within an inch of its life. Granted, I would rather have lump crab cakes with remoulade, but I was offered no sauces whatsoever and had to ask for cocktail. The extremely bright point of the evening was dessert. I had the crème brûlée and a coffee, and it was outstanding. Super-light with a fantastic warm shell, it broke up perfectly and was probably one of the top crème brûlées I have ever had. Perhaps I should have listened to the server's suggestion and gone with a non-lobster meal, but I remember thinking, "There's a lobster on the sign of a lobster bar... why not have lobster?" read more

I like to find and try local restaurants, usually head and shoulders above the franchise guys. In this case, I would have had equal or better food at fast service sandwich joint for 1/2 the price. I ordered from the lunch menu using the menu online. The menu was both incorrect with the posted prices and descriptions of the current edition of the products available. I'll say it was pretty sad to see what I got for $36 sandwich lunch for two... yes, $36 sandwich lunch for 2. My wife got a lobster roll, which passed as mediocre with a side of soggy unimpressive fries. I had a steak sandwich, which was nowhere near the description on the menu, accompanied by the same soggy unimpressive fries. Value to quality ratio = poor. Considering the price point, this under delivered horribly. I made a polite and constructive comment in an email to the contact information provided. They were slow to respond after 2 inquires, at which they offered polite yet minimal comments on my experience. They also offered to rebate me the $3 (+tax) which I was charged due to incorrect pricing information posted vs. what I was charged. This would be a "no thanks" for me in favour of several other local independent establishments in the area which are known for great quality and value... especially for lunch. read more

Came here after a long day's work and drive with a work colleague! Ordered the lobster bisque to start out. It came different than expected (nice tomato base) and was quite delish! Next I chose the cajun shrimp jambalaya. I wanted the lobster version but was not going to pay the price they were asking for it! I saw it on "you have to eat here". I had a hankering for seafood tonight and luckily this restaurant was right across the street from my hotel. Decor isn't fancy, but I came here for the food. The cajun coconut shrimp was good(I'll go for the shrimp cocktail next time), the lobster chowder was fantastic (I'm a soup nut - this often makes or breaks a good meal for me), and the haddock in shrimp sauce was good. The wait staff were friendly and quick and overall I enjoyed my meal. I will definitely come back next time I'm in Moncton to try some of the other dishes. read more
