So if you're on the fence or feeling anxious, this review is for you. We had Andrew as our guide and he was awesome. Before we even got on the open air hummer, he was very upfront that the ride would be bumpy and gave solid advice on where to sit if heights make you uneasy. That actually made me more nervous at first, but it turned out to be totally fine. The hummer never gets that close to the cliff edge, and it always felt controlled and safe. The views are unreal!!!!!! seriously breathtaking. We were lucky enough to see 2 bison, 2 Catalina foxes, 2 does, and a young buck. The tour before us saw zero bison, so we were thrilled. We even got to see them up close, which was incredible. As for the ride itself, I didn't find it nearly as bumpy as people make it sound. There were a few spots where the height felt a little sketchy, but in a "whoa" way, not a "nope, I regret everything" way. All in all, I'd absolutely recommend this tour. Don't let dramatic exit speeches scare you off, you'll be glad you did it. There's blankets available on the hummer in case you get chilly. Tips: - bring cash. The welcome was warm, friendly and understanding about any apprehensions felt. The guides are very safety conscious, personable and encouraging. I want to recognize Kaitlin for her work on the check in desk. I witnessed her defuse a very tough situation with an extremely rude and abrasive guest who was out of line ( not the company's fault) with professionalism, grace and dignity. The boat had an enclosed bench-seating area with all seats facing the center of the boat, which was made of glass and several feet below where we all sat. I was amazed by how clear the water was-even right next to shore. As we moved, our guide shared some local history and information about the marine life below us. We paused at several fish sanctuary locations, and the guide threw fish food into the water to attract more fish than we could count. The tour, which lasted an hour, was a delight for the whole family. All of the kids and kids at heart were thrilled by the many types of fish we saw. We were even fortunate enough to see a diving cormorant! The waves were not too bad on the day I went...even though my stomach usually gets queasy on smaller boats, this one didn't bother me. Maybe I was too entranced by the fish to notice. If I ever visit Catalina again and have time to do it, I'll be more than happy to go on this tour again. It was just long enough, and you never know what you'll see down there! Note--there is a public restroom at the beginning of the pier, but much of it was out of order, leading to some pretty long lines. Make sure you go before you get on the boat-no restrooms on board.

The disrespectful and immature behavior I experienced was completely unacceptable and does not reflect the level of service I would expect from your company. Built in 1968, there is a preliminary plan to renovate it, with an initial cost of 20 million. My wife and I arrived from the Quantum of the Seas, using large ferry boats as tenders, including 3 from Catalina Classic Cruises: Sentinel (took it arriving into Avalon, can hold 149 passengers) , Catalina Duchess (took it going back to the ship), and Catalina Duke (saw it while sailing back). Another boat we saw being used as a tender was the 'Island Explore 3' (registered in Long Beach). The actual trip from the ship to the dock was under 5 minutes. Most of the time was spent either waiting for the boat to fill up or properly tying the boat to the ship for safety. The terminal also contains ticket offices for bus and boat tours throughout the island. We noticed the local office of the Catalina Express, which we've used to come from Long Beach in the past. There's also a few local shops, selling souvenirs and food.
