Largo Central Railroad - A is loving the train ride

Largo Central Railroad

I was impressed by this miniature community railroad which covers a good amount of area and goes…read morethrough some different land features. Largo Central Park itself is beautiful and beautifully laid out. We were happy to visit during the month of December 2019. This is a super cute small scale railroad which is suitable for kids ages 1 +. During the first weekend of the month they offer complimentary rides on both Saturday and Sunday. The rides are from 10am-4pm and be prepared to wait in line. Although we arrived there shortly after 10am there was still a fairly fast moving but lengthy line that made me wonder how it would be if you arrived before 10am. There were two trains in operation the day we went so this made the process faster. Upon arrival you are asked to fill out and sign a waiver for you and your family that is taking part in the ride that absolves the "railroad company" of any liability if you are injured. Then you are given a punch card with the date you attended punched out on it. You are allowed to rode once on either day of the first full weekend of the month. For December they had a Santa and Mrs. Claus sitting on a bench under the covered portion of the outdoor "station" as you meandered through the line. You could take a complimentary picture with the duo and they handed out candy canes to the little ones. Everyone that worked there was so nice as well! When you arrive We chose to go on a Sunday in December and were not disappointed. Our daughter is train/ride obsessed and loved this. She enjoyed looking at all the holiday decor and zooming past the water feature as well as going in the tunnel. It was fun and a cute activity for her to partake in. She loved pointing out the other train go by as we whizzed past and she loves going in the tunnel. She had a permasmile the entire time. They even offer a Polar Express Ride on select evenings during the holiday season where all the decorations are illuminated and I believe refreshments are included for a fee. If our daughter had a later bedtime we would have bought tickets for this but it will have to wait. After going on the train we checked out different aspects of the park such as their massive Christmas tree (daughter is obsessed) as well as their awesome playground area which was the coolest that I have been to in awhile. There were lots of features for a variety of ages! Parking for the railroad is the same parking as the park.

UPDATE: I was recently in the area and decided to give this place another try. There was a nice…read morelamp in the window, so I asked to see it. The top where the wire comes out of the base was very wobbly and the shade could not sit square because the harp was on the wobbly bit. So, I looked online and it looked like I'd be able to fix it with parts from Home Depot or even Amazon. Maybe $15 or so. So I explained and asked if they take a little less for the lamp since I'd have to fix it for it to be usable. The woman on the desk called someone else. They went into the window and had a discussion. Came out, still no decision, had to make a call. Five minutes later the answer was "NO, if it's in the window we won't discount". Meanwhile, I was looking around as I waited. There was a single small martini glass priced at $6.50. It was a good quality glass but I've never seen a thrift store martini glass ( I collect them) priced so high unless it was etched crystal like Waterford. On the same table was an interesting looking vase from Germany with chips along the rim. $29! Idk. There was a polyester sleeveless top for $12 that couldn't have been more than $15 brand new. They must have someone who looks up stuff on EBay and other sites to see what people are asking for things in perfect condition or something. But, thrift stores run on donations. This one is way over priced. The staff are not friendly. The only I'd say has improved is the quality of the furniture. I really wanted to be able to upgrade my previous review because I don't like to give a bad review without checking back , but this place is just about the worst thrift store in the area. Unless you are a member of this church I'd say go elsewhere to spend your money.

Food: ordered the Black & blue burger with fries and it was surprisingly delicious and at $10 a great value. Not sure what they put on the fries, but it was tasty. Drinks: outside on the patio you have to order these separately at the tiki bar. $3 for strong well drinks, another value Service: Waitress was very nice but be prepared to wait a very long time for your food here. That's the one star reduction. The food did come hot and fresh. The view: Well, this is the reason that I joined. It's a beautiful view of the intercoastal and they have boat docks that you can pull up to(If a member). The bad: They allow smoking inside, so I have no plans to ever spend any time in there.

The food is reasonably priced and good with views of the open water that can not be beat. The specials of the day are great and we drive our boat up and dock at the dock enjoying a casual water day relaxing and catch a sunset and watch dolphins play. This isn't a 5 star place it is a relaxed laid back to de-stress and be on "island time" a bit. The non-smoking is basically outside only and inside smells like a cigarette factory even after the remodel so we have never sat inside - why would you want to when the water view is outstanding.
