Yes, it is near impossible to find reliable people to work on your boat. In five years in Channel Islands Harbor, I have found two: Pacific Marine, and Castro Canvas Designs. Everyone working for Castro Canvas is professional and conscientious. Every step of the process belies a meticulous attention to detail The initial interview with Juan, which took place on my boat, was more along the lines of a consultation. I never felt like I was being sold anything I didn't want, but was being helped to better understand what I needed. The "Designs" in the name is more than just marketing: these folks are genuine designers who craft covers to fit what you need as a boater. Juan provided some unique and thoughtful solutions to some headaches I had with my previous covers, and in so doing made it possible for me to enjoy the boat in ways - and at times of the year - where I had been unable before. The end result: we used to spend an hour or two on the boat every two weeks. Now the family is on the boat an hour a day at least. It has become an extension of our home, and I now have a houseful of enthusiastic boaters who are looking for ways to help keep our boat cleaner, prettier, and running more smoothly. So take my advice: give your boat a new lease on life and call Juan Castro. No, they are not the least expensive people in the business, but they are without a doubt the nicest and best. read more

We first used Castro Canvas Designs more than 20 years ago. Since then we've had several additions to our boat, most recently new mainsail and grab rail covers. All have been top-quality and expertly fitted. The pride that Juan and his team have in producing excellent canvass covers, bimini covers and so forth shines through. Recommended without reservation. read more

We lost our previous gazebo (cabinetry and appliances included) in the Palisades' fire. I visited Yelp to find a company to cover the cabinetry, table and chairs. The owner, Juan, visited the gazebo and did some initial sketching. Later, team member, Zack, came and took extensive measurements. A short while later Zack returned for the installation. It came out excellent, very form fitting. My expectations were exceeded! read more

Totally impressed by Juan and his professionalism. Always prompt to respond to a call or text and punctual for a visit too. His team made us a custom awning for a Dutch door which we couldn't be happier with. Excellent craftsmanship and great value for money. Would definitely recommend! read more

By far the best canvas experience I've had in my 50 years of owning boats! Juan returned my initial call promptly, set up a meeting time during which he gave me a quote and a date for completion - both of which he delivered on and the quality of workmanship is outstanding. He recovered my flybridge cushions and new canvas enclosure. I couldn't be happier - Castro Canvas is the only call you need to make! read more

I realize Castro Canvas Designs works primarily on boats but, I thought I would reach out by chance if this company could reinforce my canvas Butterfly Chair covers. Juan was great. They happen to have the tan color needed. The colors were slightly off but it didn't matter, the repair was on the underside of the covers. We dropped them off on a Tuesday and they were ready on Wednesday. They look great, Thanks so much read more

Castro awning and canvas designs, installed a fabric motorized awning on the side of my house. I received quotes from several companies, but decided to go with this company as they were a local and family owned business. They also gave the best price for the same materials offered by the other companies. I am so happy we went with this company. Their work looks very professional. They worked to make sure the shade matched the direction of the sun. They also checked for best location in terms of electrical needs and door height. When I was not happy about a detail, they came back and fixed the issue without complaint. They were very professional. I could tell that they really care about providing quality work. Overall: quality work, great price and easy to communicate with. read more

OK colleague boat owners, you know how difficult it is to have quality canvas work done in Ventura County. I cannot tell you how many times I contacted a canvas company, they never showed him or came out, took the measurements and then never heard from them again. Even happened when I was trying to get curtains made for the interior of the boat... Well, have known Juan for number of years (his father previously had done some canvas work on my earlier sailboat) and contacted him. They came out, did the measurements, I gave him a deposit and lo and behold, completed nice window covers in a relatively timely basis. I'm happy, boat is happy. Now if I can keep family happy, all is well. Call Juan, he will do right by you. read more

We were looking for a company to assist with canvas for our 50' trawler. I did a bit of research online and came across Castro Canvas. Coincidentally, the next day, their name came up from a trusted friend in the harbor. I connected with Juan a few days later and appreciated his candor when discussing timelines. He sent over some great examples of his work, met with me, and outlined his suggestions. A few months later, ahead of schedule, the canvas was completed and better than I anticipated. Great team, excellent service + good price read more

I needed a small quick fix on a Bimini top for my pontoon boat, they took me in and fixed it while I waited.

I was in town looking at buying a boat and found it needed canvas work. Without any notice I stopped in to Castro Canvas Designs and asked them to meet me at the boat and evaluate the canvas enclosure. They made time for me right away even though they had a busy schedule. They were spot on with their written evaluation and very fair with their replacement pricing. They were very professional and once my boat deal closes they will be getting a call from me. I highly recommend them. Dave S read more

We had our electric boats top and windows replaced!!! Beautiful work!! The windows and the top fit perfectly!! The quality of workmanship was amazing. Highly recommend Castro!! read more

I had a terrible experience with Juan Castro. Immediately after installation of my boat cover the windows clouded up. These were upgraded windows we paid a ton extra for. Castro took no responsibility at all. He said "you chose the materials and my people assembled them". We chose the materials he said were the best. I got him to replace them but he demanded more money for the labor to reinstall the windows. I suggest you find someone else for you canvas boat cover work! read more

We had to wait about 3 1/2 months for our new canvas dodger but it was worth the wait. The product was of the highest quality.

Sorry, I confused Castro with Cortez Canvas Designs. They had similar locations and Google directed me here. BEWARE of Cortez, Roger Cortez Canvas he is in Oxnard. Yelp won't let me delete just edit, so I'm going to go with a 5 as that seems to be most of Juan's ratings. read more

We were looking for someone to do the canvas awnings on our house as the company who previously did them was out of business. My in-laws suggested Castro who primarily does boat canvas work. He took our frames and did a beautiful job re-canvassing them! Highly recommend this company. read more

From start to finish it was a 5 star experience dealing with Castro Canvas. We have a tent trailer where the tent can be completely removed, and we were having trouble finding someone to remove the zippers for the entry door and replace them with tougher more durable ones. Not only did Castro deliver exactly what we wanted but their incredible quick turnover and attention to detail was exceptional. Not to mention their professionalism and incredibly fair pricing. I would recommend Castro Canvas to anyone in need of the services they offer. read more
