Absolutely delightful experience! We are staying at the Castle and ate here for dinner and breakfast. Both meals were delicious. They have a farm to table menu with fresh fruits and veggies they grow onsite. The rest of their food comes from local farms in the area. For dinner we had the fried green tomatoes. They were plump and delicious. You could really appreciate the tomato. We split the rack of lamb and trip tip pappardelle pasta. Seriously some of the best pasta I've had. The sauce was to die for and the tri tip was s so tender. The lamb was delicious as well. Hubby had a whiskey dew to drink and loved it! For breakfast, we had the country breakfast and the country breakfast bowl. The portions were huge and the bowl was delicious and not greasy. We split a cheddar biscuit. I definitely recommend checking out this restaurant. It doesn't disappoint! read more

Brunch was amazing here. We booked a reservation two days before and had no issues at all for a Sunday morning. Service was exceptional, food was delicious, ambiance was stunning. We walked all around after we ate and saw the gardens and baby goat and rooftop. Truly a beautiful and yummy experience. It was a little chilly inside the castle (60 degrees) but it was a chilly day outside. Would absolutely return and recommend the biscuits and gravy. The hostess was great, beautiful castle & elegantly horse decor. Sat at the bar, horrible wine selection. I tasted the whites, never heard of them, awful so you can't go wrong w/ a High Noon. Small bar, three other patrons & bartender was busy talking that I didn't get a drink until I was seated to eat. He came over, like it was his first time seeing me & said oh someone forgot about you over here. Yes, you did. No worry. Started w/ the Charcuterie Board 3/5 the marinated olives (which my server had no clue they were marinated when I inquired more) were the best thing! I could buy a jar of them. The meats were ok, brie was good, the cheddar was stale like it sat out for two days. I ordered the Short Ribs which came w/ a Blue Cheese Risotto. Horrible. I know short ribs are fatty, but only got one piece of meat off of them & the risotto tasted like some kind of cleaning solution & even smelled like it. 5/5 for the Collard Greens. I asked the server to replace the risotto for Collards & he said they can't because the chef thinks it takes away from the dish, unless you have an allergy. I dont eat carbs, but said ok & gave it a taste. I was starving so gave them another try by ordering the Smores Dessert. 5/5 Very good. But I did not leave satisfied w/ the service or food at all. My server was clueless to everything. It's such a gorgeous establishment w/ so much potential! I was not planning on such an awful experience & hope they get it together. Attempted to eat here on a Monday for lunch. After they seated us, no one came to check on us or take our order. Twenty minutes went by and we gave up on receiving any service, easily the longest we have ever waited on anyone to acknowledge my table at a restaurant. We told the staff at the hostess stand as we walked out that they can have our table after no one coming to our table for 20 minutes. Neither of the two people at the hostess stand attempted to rectify the issue as they both just watched us leave. No idea if the food is any good, didn't get the opportunity. Did leave two stars as it's nice on the inside for the little we got to see. read more

Most of what you're paying for is the experience of feeling like royalty walking through the extravagantly decorated castle, sipping on bourbon and enjoying an upscale meal. For starters, we ordered the truffle fries and lamb meatballs - both were fantastic. We were rather disappointed by our entrees. The 8oz filet was definitely overpriced and the bucatini with roasted mushrooms was quite bland. I would have liked to try some of the other small plates such as the Hen of the Woods Tempura or the Grilled Quail. The staff was great and so were the Christmas decorations. The problem was the food and the size of the table. We had a table of 4. The table was so small and close to the table next to us. There was no room for the appetizer and coffee. The waitress that brought out our food had to squeeze between my husband and the lady at the table next to us, both slim people. Now the food, we ordered the bread board ($10), it was a barely toasted everything bagel and English muffin with an almost burnt croissant accompanied by strawberry jelly, apple butter, and plain butter. We also ordered the fried grits ($12) for 3 balls of grits rolled in a panko like batter and fried served with a pepper jelly and they were smaller than a golf ball. The specialty coffees were good. The fried chicken cobb salad ($19) looked great but the chicken was cold and when placing the order, our guest asked for ranch. No ranch was brought to the table, when she asked for ranch she was told they only have honey mustard. She wouldn't have ordered the salad if she knew they didn't have ranch. Another person ordered the Denver omelet ($18) said it wasn't bad. Third guest ordered the henderson's breakfast ($19), eggs and potatoes were cold and potatoes were dry. I ordered the black cherry grilled cheese ($15), wasn't bad but had a small amount of cheese and my potatoes were also cold and super dry. Go for the decorations, but do not stay for the food. We also noticed fallen wallpaper and water damaged walls. The price ($120 before tip) isn't worth the experience or the food. read more

This review is based on our visit there last Sunday for brunch. We were seated fairly quickly with our reservations. My family and I has been driving past the beautiful castle for years and finally decided to stop in for a bite. The tablecloth was dirty with crumbs all over it. The food was horrible. When I say horrible, I mean horrible. I ordered the biscuits and gravy appetizer, and they came out cold and hard. It also had a flavor of liquid smoke that I certainly was not expecting for that dish. I said only that it was an interesting flavor so not to turn off my family from trying it. They felt the same. We then received out meals. I ordered the Steak. medium and soft scrambled eggs. The steak came out well done and the eggs were brown and burnt. I had to ask the waiter to take it back. He did and my family tried to eat. My teenage son ordered the turkey panini. It looked like a regular turkey sandwich. Not frilled or even heated. I was so surprised at the lack of attention that was put into the dishes that come from this beautiful establishment. I had to wonder if maybe the actual chef was even working that day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a tiny home in the Kentucky castle grounds! We checked out the farm and spa and of course got brunch at castle farm. We did need to make reservations ahead of time. Everything is SO fresh. We even toured the farm after brunch and got to see all of the fresh veggies that were in our omelet! We ordered the southwest omelet without pork, potato hash and Belgian waffle. Everything was delicious and the chef was very accommodating to our vegetarian restrictions. The syrup on the waffle was amazing and fresh blueberries really topped it all off The potatoes were perfectly crispy and sautéed with a bunch of veggies Highly recommend if you're staying at the castle, such a great experience! read more

I made a reservation with Annamarie for dinner for 4 at 6:15 on Jan 14th.. I specifically said we wanted to eat in the private turret area of the bar. When we arrived at 6pm the host said we didnt have a reservation in that area. He asked if I remembered who I spoke with and I gave him her name - at which point she showed up and didnt deny it, just said she didnt write it down and they had reserved it for a hotel guest earlier that afternoon. . I asked how they could possibly take away a confirmed reservation and they both shrugged their shoulders and said the hotel guest wanted that area. Then another person - probably the manager came out and said we had to eat in the main dining room as the area I requested was no longer available. Terrible customer service. Have any of these people ever heard of customer service training? The food was good, our waiter Tristan was fine but the service was glacially slow and the business meeting was not private at all. Very disappointed in how poorly my reservation was handled with no apologies, no attempt to correct THEIR mistake. These arrogant smug hosts obviously felt this type of customer service of guests is normal. If one of them had simply said "we're terribly sorry" it would have made a big difference. If I had been in their shoes I would have done that or asked if we would like a free drink or dessert or just made some gesture of appreciation of my grievance. I gave our waiter a $50 tip as it wasnt his fault but I will never eat at the Castle again. read more

Two of us liked our meal and the other two were very let down. The chicken & waffles with pecans dish desperately needs to be reworked. Who dumps 2 tablespoons of dry cinnamon on top of a waffle? And with no butter? There were hardly any pecans, and it was served with a small portion of syrup. The cod sandwich was so overcooked, it should have been sent back. Memorable and unique location! We took our daughter here for her 6th birthday lunch at 11am. Service was extremely slow and spotty. We waited an hour for the food to come out. I asked if that is normal and they said it is during brunch. Okay but no drink refills in that hour and when the food finally did arrive, the three strips of bacon for $8 were so overcooked we did not eat it (removed from bill). I have had really positive experiences here, including an awesome music event. Maybe today was just an off day for the restaurant but it will not be my recommendation list for Lex, going forward. read more

As I came upon Pisgah Pike Road the castle grounds are overwhelming as the size of this structure soon swallows you and the horse you rode up on. After checking into the gate house we parked and walked into a thick stone wall perimeter of the castle. We were greeted by a beautiful manicured garden and water feature. Looking to the left a pool, which guests of the Castle hotel were enjoying. We entered the castles heavy metal doors and were drawn into a gorgeous decorated interior and reception for the dining room. After being sat, Trenton our server promptly arrived to take our drink order. I chose French press coffee...excellent choice. I wasn't sure what breakfast dish I wanted to commit to. For my choice I asked Trenton for help. He suggested the Cordon Bleu Chicken biscuit......the end. Thanks Trenton, folks this is a beautiful dining experience full of amazing taste popping flavors that include vegetables picked from the Castle grounds. This place is in a very cool castle. So it stands to reason they don't need to have exceptional execution. And they didn't. That said, the brunch item I got was perfectly OK. I ordered the Fried Chicken Cordon Bleu. This is a country biscuit topped with a fried chicken breast, bleu bechamel, and fresh garden vegetables. The biscuit was good, and only slightly dry. The chicken was also a bit dry, though still tasted good. The batter was well seasoned. The sauce was unfortunately too funky. While the use of bleu cheese is appropriate in this dish, it was done too heavy handily for my tastes. The funk dominated the sauce and overpowered everything else on the plate. I'd like this bitter/funk to be more subtle. The tomatoes were fresh and very good. read more

Getting to do brunch at the castle was such an amazing experience! At this time of the year, they have all the Christmas decor up already so the whole place felt magical. The food prices really aren't as expensive as you'd expect for it being the Castle. It wasn't much more than what you'd pay at Wild Eggs or First Watch for the same amount of food. We had a reservation, so little / no wait at all. The service was really great from the hostess staff to our waiter to the hotel workers greeting guests. The food was really yummy as well. What an outstanding place. Castle Farms was originally an homage to a partner. After its renovations, it became a spa/hotel/restaurant/event space and we are SO glad it did. The food, service and ambience were phenomenal. We started with the oxtail that was succulent and cooked to perfection. Duck breast followed that was seasoned beautifully. Fantastic place to visit. The staff was very pleasant and the animals were adorable. The whole atmosphere was just calm and relaxing how they explained the garden for the restaurant and the retired race horses that you can ride for a fee. But they do guide it for you. Our office had a work brunch at the Castle. Lovely atmosphere with gorgeous Christmas decorations. Our server was awesome, as were all of the staff we interacted with. Our group shared the blueberry cornbread appetizer which was very good. I had the steak & eggs. I ordered the steak medium, but it came out well. Also, it was very very thin for a NY strip (like 1/4 inch - not what I was anticipating). But it was seasoned well. It was served with scrumptious fingerling country potatoes & two perfectly cooked over easy eggs. The sauce that came on the side was a Cholula hollandaise but it sadly wasn't very good - the flavor was minimal & it didn't enhance anything on the plate so I didn't use it. For dessert, the 4 of us split 2 pieces of amazing Hummingbird Cake - but the two slices were not consistent in size, one was much smaller than the other. Having dinner here was more of an experience than it was just dinner. My bf & I had never been so I reserved a dinner for 2 about a month in advance. The place is beautiful however kind of hard to find since there were no signs leading to the restaurant, just a sign telling you where restaurant parking is. . The food was disappointing. To me & my bf, it was very subpar, especially for the price. We were expecting more flavor & better flavor combos. We got the fried brie cheese to start out with & that was probably the best out of the food but not enough jam for the crostini & cheese. The lamb shank & wagyu short rib & both were a 2.5/5. The lamb was so gamey and the sides were bland. Short ribs were too tough for my liking & very fatty. The best part of our entrees was the fried grits that came with my short ribs. On the other hand, drinks were much better. My bf got the seasonal blackberry drink & he said it was ok, as it was too strong & pointless to give a cocktail straw when there are blackberries that get stuck in it. We were staying at the Castle and wanted to love this place so badly, but it was unfortunately the lowlight of our stay (otherwise a 5 star experience, hands down). We got the pork chop and the lamb shank: the pork chop was okay but the glaze tasted like straight caramel sugar (very overpowering), and the lamb shank tasted like it was submerged in butter. Yikes! We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts ($9) and got...4 sprouts? It came in what felt like a condiments container lol. Finally, the ambiance was definitely a little weird. Instead of one, large seating area, the restaurant uses individual rooms in the castle. Ours was shared with 5 other tables and it had no windows. Admittedly, it just felt awkward for the price point. The service was 5 stars and the castle is one of the coolest places we've ever stayed. Just wish the restaurant was as good! read more

We chose Castle Farms for our first nice dinner as a married couple. We really only go out to fine dining restaurants once a year or so, and this was our best experience thus far. Charcuterie board- so much food. The little red peppers were like candy. The duck was so tender and flavorful. The goat cheese melted in your mouth. Oxtail medallions- very good. Very tender. The sauce on the plate was great. Wagyu filet- best steak I've ever had. Now I know why they're so expensive lol. Worth it. Drinks- my wife had the king's poison and loved it. After that, she switched to wine. Great selection. The bourbon selection is extensive as well. I had several four roses small batch old fashioned's. All were great. Service- top notch. Beautiful place, easy to get to and park. We were greeted right away and told, bring early, it would be a few minutes, but feel free to walk around. Take advantage and go look over the fields at the top of the castle. When you are ready, you will be seated in a tastefully decorated space for your meal. Service was excellent, with the staff able to answer questions about the location, the food, and respond to allergies. Food came out fast and hot and drinks were well balanced. The food was top notch and all plates were great for portion size and flavor balance. The Mac and cheese was creamy and Rich, the goat cheese salad was creative and stuffed mushrooms warm and hearty. Mains were more of the same enjoyable experience and all equally enjoyed. The pots de creme were Rich and sweet (but not too much) and just different enough to be interesting. The creme brulee (which is normally so over done, it's not worth getting) was amazing and different and highly recommend. End your meal with a walk up to the farms to see the goats, chickens, bees, and food. The omelette was also very good, but it really should be served with at least one piece of toast. The orange butter would be great on toast. This was the best dining experience I've ever had. Our server, Stephen, was hands down the best waiter we've ever had. Our babysitter canceled on us last minute, so we brought our 6 month old baby with us to a fine dining establishment. So of course she cried immediately. Talk about stressful! I sat in a hall as to not disturb the other diners, and fed her, while my husband came over to be with us. Stephen brought our appetizers and drinks over to us. Are you kidding? Here we are, stressing that we're being uncouth, but instead made to feel right at home. RJ, one of the owners of the restaurant, was personable and provided great customer service as well. My dinner, fig stuffed hen wrapped in prosciutto on top of risotto, was the best meal I've ever had at a fine dining restaurant. Perfect flavor combinations throughout and quite filling. I know I keep saying, "the best I've ever had", but legit there's no other words to describe it! We'll definitely be back, and I suggest you do the same. read more

I was surprising my husband with an overnight stay in one of the hotels outer wall tower rooms. When we arrived on the grounds his face lit up like a child in wonderment! It really is quite a sight. The tower room really is a two- floor suite. Two small balconies are on the second floor-one overlooks the castle from the bathroom and the other the road we came in on from the bedroom. The interior design was delightful. It was clean and the mattress and pillows were firm. Which is what we prefer. We were also able to secure a reservation for the restaurant with our one- night stay. We had dinner and it really was the best meal we enjoyed in our whole 8 days in KY. (We even went to Jeff Ruby's.) The bartender was informative, the selection of booze was vast, and the mixology fantastic! We began with an appetizer which was scallops and the dish was delicious. I had the sweet potato gnocchi and the portion was perfect and the flavor delightful. My husband had the pork chop. He also has a food allergy to onion (I know, weird, but bad) and when we notified the waitress she notified the kitchen and they said they were sanitizing the work station when they prepared his food. That felt comforting. (Jeff Ruby's put a plate of butter covered in chives in front of my husband-and they knew a month in advance about his allergy.) Later that evening we enjoyed a bourbon coffee nightcap and we were just in awe over the courteousness of the staff-and the other people staying there. We were encouraged to go to the roof and look around the grounds. What a grand time! They did make it feel like we were staying in a fairy tale castle instead of a cold dungeon-like midieval castle. Came here for a Christmas dinner with the missus. Loved the holiday decorations and the staff said that every year its a completely new design. I've never been to the castle previously and it felt smaller than expected. The "restaurant" occupies rooms of the castle on the ground floor. I enjoy the farm to table concept of the menu and loved the charcuterie board appetizer. It's definitely large enough to share between 2-3 people. This is by no means a cheap place and on the drinks menu I got a chuckle seeing that they serve "luxury ice" for $2 extra....what a steal. I got the burger with truffle fries and she got the vegetable option. Both of us enjoyed our meals but felt the price point was a bit steep. I'd like to come back during the summertime to explore the grounds but will reserve this restaurant for special occasions. read more

My husband and I went for a late anniversary dinner. The experience of being at a castle was everything I expected it to be. The grounds and the decor on the inside were spectacular. It truly is a breathtaking place. With that being said, let me say the dining experience wasn't up to par. Our waitress was nice, but wasn't as attentive as she should have been. We sat with empty glasses, during the majority of our dining time. She did apologize for this towards the end. The bread board was wonderful, the presentation of the entrees and sides were great, but they tasted terrible. We definitely left disappointed. I had the local beef filet it was charred on the outside more than it should've been. Our macaroni and cheese side was cold and tasteless. I was really hoping that the food and service would've matched the rest of the experience. If you're gonna to offer upscale dining then it needs to be just that.
