Back of building easy curbside pickup

I was in town for an NIU college visit with my then high school senior. I can't stop thinking about this place. I went here over a year ago and had an Iced Pistachio Latte and it was absolutely the BEST thing ever! I utilized the drive up, put my order in online and then drove around back to pick it up. Since I had that drink I have ordered the same drink in a dozen different places and NONE compare.

Great vibe for study and work. I got a hot latte there. It's environment really boost my efficiency.

Barista is knowledgeable and friendly, quick service, good espresso, fun signature drinks, and plenty of seating to do work or catch up with friends. There is even some lounge seating and a furnace for cozy winter vibes.

The Birthday Cake Latte was AMAZING!!!! I really enjoyed the flavors and can't wait to go back!

Cinnamon Roll, Pistachio Latte w/ Espresso

Nice atmosphere. It's nicely decorated and there's a decent amount of seating, so you could hang around for a while. The baristas were very friendly. I was here twice during my stay in Dekalb and tried the pistachio latte with and without an added espresso shot, and a few pastries. I loved the pistachio latte. The espresso adds some depth to it but it's very good without, good for if you want something without caffeine or just something different. The cinnamon bun was very good. Super soft, almost croissant-like dough. The cream cheese frosting was delicious but there was way too much of it and a glaze drizzle on top of that that was totally unnecessary. It wasn't that big of a deal since the excess frosting just sort of slipped off. The blueberry muffin was okay but for my taste a little too sweet/cakey. I prefer a denser and less sweet muffin, but that's just me. I definitely would recommend them for drinks. I wouldn't come solely for the pastries, but they were satisfactory as a snack to go with my drink. I think they would benefit from more variety in the pastry department, or at least consistency in variety. There were 3 types of muffin (blueberry, cinnamon chip, and double chocolate) and cinnamon rolls on my first visit but only the double chocolate muffin and the cinnamon rolls the second time.

If you haven't heard of the term "airspace" in reference to coffee shops yet, you haven't been to enough coffee shops (not an insult, just the truth). If you need a definition of that term, visit Cast Iron Coffee. Einstein bulbs, concrete floors, repurposed wooden tables, those metal chairs, that brown leather couch, succulents, mason jars as cups and chalkboard menus. All of this adds to an unnerving, Twilight-zone like feeling that you could be anywhere in the world and yet nowhere at all. A very non-unique, tired, straight-up boring atmosphere. On one occasion I had the vanilla chai, which was good but not amazing. Another occasion I tried an espresso drink, the mocha with a shot of caramel, and again I was not disappointed but not totally impressed. I will go back to try just a plain black coffee and maybe to try to study, the proximity to NIU's campus is indeed hard to pass up. TL/DR: creepy same-ness atmosphere, unimpressive but still okay coffee and drinks, yet conveniently close to campus for the lazy student

Cast Iron Coffee fits right in with NIU and the DeKalb community. The atmosphere is perfect for a small town coffee shop and the menu is compact, yet diverse enough to try everything and truly find something that you'll love. The location works well, especially with students traveling to and from classes. Kyle and Dion know their coffee and always provide an exceptional experience! I will be back many more times!

Goodbye Starbucks! say hello to your new obsession! I have been going to this place since I moved to Dekalb (6 months ago). Coffee is my favorite, trust me you can't make it at home. It's divine. The owners put in a lot of hard work and it shows! The staff is the best!! The interior is amazing. They have milk substitutes and will make your drink to perfection Honestly just try it and you won't regret it.

Checked out The Lincoln Inn while in town for camp at the college…read more It's a nice spot, and the food was good. We started with two cups of cream of chicken rice soup and was surprised that this bakery didn't offer rolls with the soup, so I chose to use the toast from the meal I ordered. It worked perfectly. I will add that soup was served barely lukewarm. Not ideal, but we ate it. Next, we ordered a Tuna Melt with fries and a Lincoln Inn Special. We both agreed the food was good. Our server was very nice. She was attentive and assisted when asked. We also ordered the Strawberry Crepes to go. But we couldn't stop there, lol. While at the register, there were cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls, so we grabbed one of each. We enjoyed those a little later while we waited for our child who was at the camp. Both were delicious! I think it's great how the photos of many years are going across the walls and that they support the local college and their sports. Such a nice touch. There was a gentleman who came over and introduced himself and asked if I knew anyone in the photos. I do not recall his name. He was kind and told me about the photos and about how he created one in particular which was rather impressive.

They have music playing in the background. The room is nice and cold and a great break from the hot outside weather. You may have to bring a sweater if you don't like it too cold. It is a very clean, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere. Our waitress was really sweet and helped me pick out one of the simple sandwiches. There are lots of food items and love that they have fresh baked cookies too. My husband ordered the Corned Beef Hash with eggs over easy. Pancakes without powdered sugar and sugar free syrup. I ordered the simple sandwich - Turkey Everything was delicious If your in the area, come and give this restaurant a try, you won't be disappointed.
