Kisito, I believe he's the owner, knows his coffee! It's clear how passionate he is about what he serves. He is super friendly and has a great sense of humor. No, I'm not a friend or relative! I'm from the States, SF, and I'm a Blue Bottle fan. I've lived in Paris for almost 2 years and have been to almost all the "new wave" cafés, and most are excellent. I recently moved to the 18th and live around the corner, that's how I discovered it. If you're in the area you must go. If you're not in the area you must go.
Please understand, this is Paris. One must be respectful and friendly if one wants to be treated the same way. His coffees are excellent, though if you like your espressos intense (the way they should be, imho) be sure to ask for it short. He tends to make them too long for my taste. He also has gluten-free products that are "almost" house made. I believe he has a friend that makes them and they are delicious! Carrot cake is outstanding!
I don't speak French very well even after almost 2 years, RIGHT!?, but he speaks just enough English to be very charming. He has a few seats outside which is perfect when the weather is hot, it's always shaded and a nice breeze sweeps down the street between the buildings. FOR THOSE WHO CARE: it's a perfectly safe and awesome neighborhood, but it is "transitioning". If you're intimidated by this you'd be better off staying in the 1st-4th just like the majority of tourists; but you'd also be missing out big time! It is changing and all too quickly. When I first arrived in Paris only 2 years ago I heard almost no English in this area. I now hear more than I'd like, including from my own mouth.
Hope you all give it a try and share your experience. read more
