We had a lovely meal here at Makars Mash Bar (technically called The Makar's Rest) We ordered the following: - Coke & Ginger Kombucha - Free Range Gourmet Scotch Egg (deliciousness to share and a great way to begin a meal) - Home Grown Lion's Mane pan-fried bites, served with vegan aioli wasn't a hit with the group but I really liked it. - Slow Cooked Lamb (rich and full of flavor) - Crown Of Slow Cooked Beef Shoulder (incredibly tender and literally fell apart) - Makars Wild Boar Sausage With Beef Dripping Gravy (got a bite in and it didn't taste gamey) - Sides of Black pudding mash and Scottish cheddar cheese & onion mash which we really enjoyed. - Sticky Toffee Pudding was a perfect end to the meal. Great comfort food, generous portions, and a really enjoyable experience overall. Would definitely recommend. Atmosphere outside in the chilly air was a challenge at first. Outdoor heaters would have been a plus. At least we were seated.

At the door, parties of 2+ had around an hour wait. I was lucky enough to be dining solo, so was immediately seated to a small high-top area by the door. Service was very kind. I ordered the Lamb and Classic Mash. The side pickles were tasty and refreshing. The mash was truly good. I ended up wishing I picked a different protein because the lamb came on the bone, wish was hard to eat around for me. Since it was my first day in Scotland, the conversion between pounds and dollars hadn't yet processed for me. As a heads up, ordering the 23.00 pound classic entree came out to be $32.50.

My favorites were the fish cake, pork, scallops and shrimp. Also their watermelon is surprisingly sweet and a good palate cleaner. Ambiance is decent, it's clean but nothing over the top. They asked if I have reservation and I said "no but I can wait" in Chinese. 3 mnts later I got a table haha U can choose selection of broths. When I choosed mala they warned me it's gonna be spicy and they double check with me. Fear not, it's not spicy at all for me LOL. Normally 2 people can choose 2 broth and more than 2 people can choose more selection. Most all you can eat place service is slow because they don't want to serve you too quick and too much with that 2 hours window. But this place just slammed it. Whatever u ordered in that laminated menu ( u just need to check the box of what item you want), they delivered less than 5 mnts. Most of the patrons are local, I probably the only "tourist" that's in that restaurant that day. As for ambiance? What ambiance ? It's a crammed place that's perfect for hot pot restaurant Interesting note that they don't give you soup spoon. I understand that traditionally people in China didn't drink / slurp the broth, but living in US for years, I just got used to with the soup spoon.

When I first entered, it was busy. The smell of the combination of different broths and foods filled the air. It did make the room a bit warm but that's to be expecting in a room filled with boiling pots. After sitting down, we were quickly explained how to order on the menu and left alone. We ended up with a dual pot of hot and spicy broth and of tom yum kung broth. I'd like all of the meats and vegetables we ordered but it's best to say that the options were plentiful and I was able to get fresh shellfish. Yes, I could even get seasonal crab, razor clam, and scallop. It didn't take very long for the pot of broths to come out, along with the giant plate of foods we ordered to go along with it. I'm a big eater and even this looked overwhelming to me. And the quality of food matched the quantity. All of the vegetables were clearly freshly cut and the shellfish was clearly fresh. It was a very fun experience to cook foods in the pot. Occasionally they'd come around to add more water to the pot as it boiled off. They also offered to bring us more food. I never needed it but it was good to know I could get it. In hindsight I could have used more crab because it was clearly worth the price on its own. I really would want to go back. It's not exactly a cheap place but at £16.99 per person it was such a good experience that I'd happily go back.

I ate so much fish, even more than when I was at those restaurants I had in China! They also give Chinese lots of other genuine Chinese food as an add-on for free: steamed buns, roasted beef, chicken feet, ice cream.... Lots of appetizers! We had great memories at this restaurant. I would definitely come back whenever I return to Glasgow! What's more, they have Karaoke for free!

If you have eaten PHO in more authentic places like Little Vietnam in Los Angeles, San Francisco,…read moreToronto, and Orange County (I have)...then don't eat here. The Pho is not authentic. It is picture pretty but that is about it. This place was recommended by our friend's 25 year old kid (whose palette is still young). The decor is beautiful and the inside is cozy and intimate. I ordered the seafood pho. It had no depth to it. It was missing that umami flavor. The broth was watery. It was missing the mint and the Thai basil. I ordered it #2 spicy and it was not spicy at all. We asked for some Fish sauce and they had no idea what we were talking about (which should have been a red flag) so then we asked for Hoisin sauce and they didn't have that either, they offered us soy sauce and we accepted that. Anything to bring some flavor to our pho. They ran out of chicken and (the night was still young) so my friend had to order the beef pho. He said his was okay- this was his first time having pho so he had nothing to compare it to. The service was mediocre. We had to ask them to bring us utensils. We had to ask them again to bring us napkins. It took them forever to ask us what we wanted to drink after they sat us down. To be honest, it was overpriced for the quality of food that was served. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic pho in Glasgow. This is a very instagram/influencer spot for pretty food pics/decor and that's about it. I would not go back.

(people are strange). Yet, I found it delicious. I ate downstairs on all of my trips and enjoyed that for lunch. Will def visit this for lunch again on my next visit.
