Mabo tofu
Elizabeth H.

Lian Pu is decently priced yummy Chinese. Some people are fans and others are skeptical. Well it is a popular place for many Chinese students and has sizeable portions at decent prices. Now quality of food is standard quality but that more greasy goodness we all need occasionally. However, some of their dishes can be lighter and boast some of those home comfort feels, like their chicken and egg noodle soup. It's also great if you want to get more traditional Chinese dishes, such as beef intestine. Yes, they have that. But if you want to get the more popular Chinese dishes they have that too. Mabo tofu is really good, nice and spicy yet light tofu. New favorite may be the beef ho fun which is so nice for the fried noodle cravings. Also, they serve bubble tea! The bubble tea is yummy. Downstairs they have hot pot and little grills if anyone is thinking of a more all you can eat type experience.

The best best best authentic Chinese food in town. The swing pot is so gorgeous and the same as those in China. Love the food here and must 10 stars for it

I have to say this was the most unexpected weirdest good experience I've had in a while. I was only…read morepopping along to the Savoy Centre to check out the Kilt Shop, which ended up being closed. I forgot all about here, as I had bookmarked a while ago. I had heard rave reviews about Bubble Tea down in London and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I can't believe we actually have one in Glasgow. It's take away only so all the menus are outside the shop and both in English and in a Chinese language. There is so much choice it's just a list after list of options. So after opting for the Strawberry Pearl Milk Tea with ice, the lady did her magic. It's a tea made with a milk or cream with a flavour of your choice containing the small black tapioca balls which nestle at the bottle of the plastic cup. This is were you get the pearls from, it's all in them special balls. So shaken, sealed and with a lovely big pink straw for me, I was given my first Bubble Tea. The straw is so wide, just enough for you to suck up the balls. Oooft, so much could be said here but keeping it pearly clean. Hehe!! It's such a weird sensation and it's like a wee surprise in your mouth. Steady! They are soft, chewy and taste lovely. My strawberry flavour was delicious, my man got coconut, also very tasty. If you haven't been it's definitely worth departing 3 of your British pounds for something unique with a unusual taste sensation.

Easy Way Tea I have found you! I had no idea somewhere like easy way tea existed. I have a memory,…read morea distant memory of trying this light and strange green tea drink when I was in Canada skiing. Never again did I think that I would find anything like it again, I had out those tapioca balls known in Canada as 'bubbles' being me and gotten back to the life of smoothies and fruit juice. Low and behold! Easy Way Tea exists in the strangest of places, the Savoy Centre!! There has never ever been any reason for me to go i to the Savoy Centre before in my life, but here it was! And no one knows about it? How can this be, these drinks really are a sensation. My first visit I had the Green apple flavoured green tea with the 'bubbles', oh that reminds me of holidays!! It was as good as the Canadian bubble tea as they called it. I think this sort of thing must be very popular in Taiwan, where I think it originated, because I recognised some of the contraptions which squeeze the bubbles into my drink. So refreshing and light, not like a smoothie at all, more like iced tea with little balls in it to suck up through a huge straw.

I love dim sum (or yum cha as we call it in Australia, not sure why!) and I was excited to check…read moreout the offerings of Chinatown, which I'd never been to before. There's a few Yelpers who've reviewed it and had good things to say so I knew I could trust their judgement! The restaurant entrance is around the side of the building - the grand entrance is for the supermarket. Inside the restaurant is set up like most Chinese restaurants - large round tables with lazy susans and a few smaller ones around the side. The decor is kind of 80s, a big chandelier and a big fish tank. No complaints though! We ordered a selection of the dishes from the dim sum menu and shared - Shanghai mini bun, beef cheung fung, scallop and vegetable dumplings, spring rolls, char sui buns, squid. I really liked everything, to be totally honest - a great mix of food, all served quickly and really hot, and it was really tasty. I think the car sui buns and the Shanghai mini buns were two of my favourites but it was good to try something totally different like the beef cheung fung which was really silky and tasty. Staff were really friendly, helpful and fast but also having a bit of a laugh with us. The bill was around £20 each including tip and a lot of soft drinks - and I had a couple of tsingtao beers. This was a really nice place to try for something different at Brunch Club, and I'd definitely go back for dinner or another dim sum session soon.

Dim Sum Sunday is a thing...... in Glasgow!!! Did you not know?…read more Well its actually Dim Sum Saturday, Sunday and I think one day during the week, but I went on the Sunday so for me its Dim Sum Sunday. China Town has been about for decades and believe it or not last weekend was my first visit to it. Reflecting back that's sort of bizarre considering my live for all things dumpling and Asian cuisine in general. First impressions when you walk in are you can tell it's been about a bit, the décor is a wee bit dated and you can tell some of it was put together many years ago. That said the service is friendly and its clean, so who cars abut the décor as your there for the food. They do an Al carte menu, but I was there purely for the Dim Sum so I did not even read, in case was tempted to get two dinners!. We shared a selection between 4 dumplings fans... Highlights for me were - Deep Friend Beef with Ginger and Spring Onion, Prawn Dumpling with Salad Cream, Dried scallops & Veg Dumplings, Satay beef dumplings, pork and prawn dumplings, Chair Siu Bun.... I could literally go on and on. There was nothing I did not like, don't get me wrong as well as the ones I mentioned as amazing highlights, there was some that were just OK, but I can genuinely say I liked the lot. Boiled to steamed, buns to dumplings it was all good. I now really want to go back for the Al carte menu and will do in the next few months. If you like dumplings and dim sum you're going to love this please. Just make sure you check serving times and days before you go as they do not do the full menu all the time.
