I have something to confess - I definitely search for "most Instagrammable restaurants" when I travel - because I love a good theme, or an ambiance that is out of this world. And let me tell you right now - Tattu lived up to the hype I read online and THEN SOME! We booked a later reservation because we were coming back from a tour that day, and we were promptly seated right when we arrived. The vibe was exactly as described - it was upscale, and very ethereal feeling. Trees uplit with purple and pink lights, black marble tables, more floral/light touches, and a dragon mural on the ceiling and also in a projected design on the far wall of the dining area. And luckily, the food was just as good as the ambiance. My friend and I both did the Evening Set Menu, that included a starter for each person and a main dish per person. They also had desserts and sides that you could add for an extra charge (we did a dessert each, and they were also amazing, but more on that later - hold your horses!). I had the Crispy Pork Belly for my starter and it was divine - nice and crispy outside with a soft middle and a delicious dipping sauce. My friend did the Duck Spring Rolls and they were so tasty as well (we split a few of each others' starter). The cherry hoisin sauce that came with the spring rolls was fantastic and a little sweet and sour at the same time. These starters were not so heavy that we didn't have room for our main courses, which I appreciated. For the entree, I had the White Miso Salmon, and the filet was so tender with a miso sauce that was to die for. The Jasmine rice that accompanied them mixed super well with everything too. My friend had the Chinese BBQ Chicken, and it was a large filet that was super flavorful (the bites I had), because it was absolutely coated in the BBQ sauce, and a very juicy filet, too. I would recommend either of the mains or starters that we picked for the evening set menu, based on our experience. As I mentioned, the dessert is not included in the set evening menu, but you can add it at the end - and my friend and I both did! She had the Asian Pear Sticky Toffee pudding, and it was so delectable - a toffee brownie type square with a large mound of buttery ice cream on top, and caramel and cinnamon to top it off. I had the Chocolate Hazelnut Pagoda, and it was a stunner! Literally a chocolate cake "dirt" on top of vanilla whipped pudding, with cherry ice cream on top and a hazelnut chocolate pagoda tree with cotton candy for the leaves. While that sounds awesome in itself, it also came with a cloud of dried ice "smoke" billowing out of it. So cool, and it definitely tuned a few heads when it arrived. So from the super cool and upscale ambiance, excellent service, and out of this world food - I definitely recommend Tattu for a special occasion, date night, or to take anyone you want to really impress! read more

Excellent! The food, service, ambiance, delivery, care... everything was person! There are a ton of options on the menu to cater to the size of your group (I.e. al a carte, large party, single dishes, group sharing, everything between, etc) which is helpful. We had a hand full of things to share and plenty of drinks. For appetizers the dumplings were my favorite. For the mains you simply can't go wrong with the BBQ chicken (you get two different kinds of meat. Feeds 1-4) and the vegetable fried rice. Delightful spot for a visit! read more

Wow, let's start off with that. I came here for dinner and a night out with family and to enjoy Edinburgh. We had an early reservation as it does book up pretty fast. Funny thing, I've walked passed by numerous of time and never knew about it. When you walk in, there's a waiting area to one side and the bar to the other. As well as the hostess. We didn't grab a drink first as our table was ready. The whole layout was quite pretty. Asian inspired with all the cherry blossom everywhere. The mood lighting just gives it that extra pop. Menu wise for both food and cocktails were quite exquisite. Many of great choices were to be made. Wine selection was quite impressive as well. As most of the dishes were a la carte, we opted for the tasting menu. Pre set for two which basically everything that came out was amazing. The seared tuna was too notched and my favorite. Also the steak, cocked perfectly and really flavorful and juicy. Crispy duck, another favorite. Basically everything on the menu was amazing. I believe the sea bass, also cooked perfectly and tender and flakey. Finished off with the dessert which did the trick after an amazing meal. Everything was too notched, full of flavors and cocked perfectly. Service was seriously amazing. Everyone who came to our table was excellent. Friendly, attentive, polite and very gracious. Also recommend a good amount of cocktails for us to try. Highly recommend this place and for sure will be returning when we're back in town. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves here. Tattu provided an exceptional dining experience and it really elevated our trip to Edinburgh. The cherry blossoms and lighting in this restaurant really set the vibe. We both ordered from the tasting menu to try a little bit of everything. Initially, we didn't think it was going to be enough food but oh my goodness, by the last course, we were so stuffed and couldn't finish the portions. I'm not usually a fan of Chinese but this place was amazing. This experience was well worth the price and now I want to visit other Tattu's since we were told that each one is different. The food and ambiance were very good but the service was horrid. I was sitting right next to the other people I was with during this meal and I wasn't asked once the whole experience on what I wanted to drink until I had to get the attention of the server's myself just so I can get a drink. I enjoyed everything about the restaurant but I was very disappointed about the service. EDIT- The restaurant is not able to make ANY accommodations to any item on the menu, so if you see something on the menu that you have interest in but want to take something out, I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

Tattu is an atmospheric and moody little restaurant in the heart of new town within Edinburgh that just might transport you into a new world full of cherry blossom trees and love. The restaurant offers Asian inspired food and craft cocktails. The cocktails are elegant, floral, and some even come in decorative glasses that resemble roses and even dragons. While the cocktails are amazing the food is simply wonderful as well. The plates are best shared between people so order around 4-5 plates to share. While the menu can be a bit confusing the staff is wonderful at explaining dishes as well as making recommendations. Def a nice night out but make sure you're not in too big of a rush as service may be slower than you're used to. read more

The menu is alittle limited and we had a hard time finding what to eat so we decided on ordering small plates to make it tapas style. All of the food we did get was amazing!! My favorite was the short ribs. The ambiance with the flowers on the trees was so beautiful! I chose to eat at Tattu because of the many five star reviews on this site. Being a tourist I had nothing else to go on. My brother and I arrived in the early afternoon. Yes, the restaurant is "Instagram worthy", quite beautiful. My expectations rose. Because we were so hungry when we were sat I immediately ordered an appetizer, maybe pork ribs, that the host said was "melt in your mouth" tender. Before it came out we ordered the rest of the meal. The disappointment began when the appetizer arrived. It looked scrumptious, four little tele color cubes of meat. When I put the first one in my mouth it had the texture of cardboard. The rest of them were the same. We struggled to swallow them they were so tough. The rest of the meal was pretty much the same. And at these prices this food quality is unacceptable. The service, however, was outstanding. We didn't complain. We just paid and left. But I think the reviews for this restaurant should be honest. Had anyone mentioned the poor quality of the food I would have skipped it. Again, the service and the ambience were excellent. read more

Came here for my birthday last night as the decor is stunning. The oyster mushroom appetizer was delicious as well as the mock chicken dish. However for my main I ordered the tamarind tofu balls, and what I was served was a plate of deep fried balls consisting of tofu and bland melon. I thought the melon was cauliflower until I was told otherwise. I found it really disappointing, especially because this restaurant is really pricey. If the whole dish is deep fried it's really strange there's no mention of it of that on the menu descaro. I was expecting marinated tofu balls. Most of the glasses of wine are £12. They same price as the cocktails, one of which I ordered and also found really bland despite an almost awkwardly showy presentation. Before we ordered, the server asked the table if anyone had a dietary preference, I said I did, and had to shout it across the table which made me uncomfortable. Then 5 minutes later another server came by and asked the same question. I didn't respond this because it was a pointless question anyway. I think I'd be willing to come back, perhaps, but would definitely stead clear of the tamarind tofu balls. We also ordered the coconut creamed spinach which was meant to have tofu in it but none was detected. Overall I think the selling point for this restaurant is the decor, not the food. read more
