Caspersen Beach is off rt 41 past the airport and golf course, all the way to the end of the road. There are restroom facilities and lots of parking. We go here to dig for shark teeth. You can find big shark teeth worth hundreds of dollars. Beautiful waters and buried treasure await you at Casperson Beach! Important note, make sure you come in on Harbor dr. or you won't have access coming the other way because it is blocked off! Harbor Drive goes right past the airport! read more

Oh my goodness! This beach is gorgeous! So different and unique with all the beautiful rocks. We saw two or three dolphins that actually got fairly close!! We went on a Saturday and it wasn't crazy at all. Kids flew their kites. There are some amazing photo opportunities here. It is a very nice, clean beach. The water was clear and pretty. Caspersen Beach is officially my favorite beach in Florida now. It is the most natural looking beach I have ever been to with its rocky shoreline filled with sea shells. It's a great place to shell and find shark teeth. Even small children were finding them. There is ample parking and great restroom/shower facilities. If I had children with me I might have been hesitant to let them get very far from me as there were signs posted about the riptides. Truthfully, I would take them down the road just a short distance to the Venice pier area where the beach is a little tamer but that's just me. My friends and I plan to make the two hour drive to Caspersen at least once a month. read more

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! This is my family's favorite beach in the Venice area. It is close to where we stay. The parking is easy and there is alot of it. The area where you park has a nice outdoor shower area and restrooms for use. It's a short walk to the beach which is never crowded (at least when we have always been there). One of our favorite things to do here of course is look for shark's teeth and shells. I find it is now harder to come by teeth these days compared to when I first started coming to Venice in 1994 when I felt that every scoop had quite a few in it. It's ok though, the hunt is still all the fun. The shells are also very cool. I find the water to be the clearest at this beach compared to the other ones we visited this last time down. This is also a great beach to come to to watch the sun set or to fish in the earlier morning hours. read more

Lovely beach, lovely views. There are so many beaches in the area, yet each one has its own distinctive features. This beach is different from many of the others as it is very rocky. As others have mentioned previously, it's great for looking for shark teeth, as well as you can get some breathtaking pictures; however, we did not go there to soak up the sun rays. The strip of beach is very limited, and with all the rocks, I wouldn't suggest swimming there. Some people were relaxing on the beach, but when there are so many other options to choose, I would pick somewhere else. In a nut shell, go for shark teeth and views. I didn't find any shark teeth the time we went, but I know people who go and find them all the time. Buy one of the sand sifters to help find them. If you want to go swimming or soak up the sun, either go further down the beach then where I was, or go somewhere else. read more

This is my favorite beach in the sun coast area, it has amazing vibes, a closer to nature feel with plenty of trails that connect to the beach; as well as views you just can't get at Siesta. It may not have white sand but it has character. read more

Always a great spot to spend the day! The wife loves anything involving water and can spend the entire day lounging out on the sand. I on the other hand am one of those guys that is objective driven and can't sit too long with nothing to do or I lose interest and it's time to go. We were on vacation in the area and were trying all the different beaches. This beach is not too far down past Sharky's (essentially on the same road). Caspersen has lots of parking which is good, but the beach itself is very narrow (not so good). From the parking lot, you can walk right to the beach, or you can walk down further to a different section of the beach. When you are lugging stuff in the hot Florida sun the walk doesn't sound so appealing, but we probably should have done it as the beach farther down looked wider and of course, had fewer people. There are a lot of larger rocks right at the edge of the water which you have to maneuver around, but it's not too difficult. Somehow we didn't feel that the water here was as nice as it was at other nearby beaches - it seemed to have a lot of seagrasses or something in it. We did find some shark's teeth, but really, not much more than we found at other area beaches. We didn't have a bad afternoon, but it wasn't the beach we wanted to go back to when given a choice. read more

This has to be one of my favorite beached of all time! It is a rocky beach - so be prepared. There are large rocks on the shore and in the water, which I thought was gorgeous! It felt like something outside of Florida, something magical. The water hitting the rocks and creating little tide-pools! I loved it! That being said, the rocks also make the beach a little more dangerous so watch your step and your little ones! The water here was aqua/green! It looked like the Caribbean - very different from the east coast, and much cleaner than the other bay experiences I have had. One of the best parts is hunting for sharks teeth! Among the rocks are stingray barbs, intact shells, and sharks teeth! The best way to find them is with a sifter. I found a bunch and it was so fun! We didn't find any larger ones, but in the shops nearby they have displays of the teeth found locally - and they have found some awesome teeth! I would highly recommend this beach to anyone looking for a wonderful day! read more

My wife and I were looking for a new beach to check out on our honeymoon. I had suggested this beach just out of curiosity. She checked out the reviews and didn't really want to come because a lot of reviews said it was rocky. We were already in the area so we decided to go down and walk down just to check it out. The beach was awesome! The rocks were big ones you could stand on. There was blacker sand that was really cool. We also found shark teeth. We took a really nice walk along the beach and had a very nice time. Would recommend! read more

READ THE TIPS AT THE END OF REVIEW: Our little family of 5 from Pennsylvania visited this beach for the first time last week. We had no idea how to go about finding the elusive sharks teeth and to be honest, had a goal of *maybe* finding one or two. At first, we skimmed the area and found nothing. We didn't have any equipment and like most people now-a-days want instant gratification. Soon we realized if a person just stops and concentrates on one little area, you will soon start to see them. I described it to my 9-year-old- "if you stop and really look in one area, at first, you won't notice anything. But look closely, start looking at the details of the small "stones" and you will soon see them everywhere." We ran into a bunch of families who were frustrated with not finding anything until we showed them that they truly are laying around everywhere. Soon everyone around us started to find them. Don't go thinking the teeth will jump out at you, I promise once you find one, you will suddenly know what you are looking for and will start seeing them everywhere. We found a chart online and found ray, different sharks teeth and 2 megalodon teeth and sooo much more! Tip- black sand = the layer that the sharks teeth are in. Now, I am not from this area, but as a Mom, I am constantly aware of the "mom radar" when something is "off". There is definitely something going on with how-do-I-put this...."single men" on this beach and also in the "Back tree areas" of the peninsula. I would notice a single man pass by us about every 30 minutes or so and they were all heading out to the end of the beach area. At one point our family was following a secluded path that runs in the middle of the peninsula between the beach and river. There was most definitely something going on in the trees and bushes off the side of the path. It was NOT the sound of a small animal either- if you know what I mean. For this reason, I would not allow my kids out of my sight. It is a shame that this is something you need to worry about while at this really cool beach. Another tip: We didn't find a single tooth on the actual beach. We found them all in the sand on the dunes and the paths inland. Good Luck! read more

The beach is located at the end of the road and has a wonderful bathroom and washing station; however the rest was weird. As soon as my wife and I exited the car we both experienced nasal and repository irritation. We didn't say anything to one another until we we about 200 yard from the car...walking on the beach. We've lived overseas in highly polluted metropolitan areas and we never experienced anything like this before. Trouble breathing, eye irritation, skin sensitivity just from walking down the beach. Finally I said something to my wife and she told me she thought is was just her. We hurried back to the car and she went to the restroom and washed her face off. I washed my legs and face at the washing station and entered the car. All the sensations quickly subsided as I turned on the AC and drank some water. All the way back to our rental our legs burned and our arms and legs tingled. Upon returning to our rental we both showered and the tingling and skin irritation stopped. Something was in the air, perhaps it was a reaction to the red tide, but it was horrible. read more

Driving from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa when we needed a break. Were stumbled across this beach at random. It was amazing. We usually go to California beaches which there water is freezing, dirty and there is no visibility in the water. This beach was small but so many shells. My 11 yr old daughter had a blast. This was a nice beach with a lot less traffic than siesta key which is a staple for my family. I didn't find as many shells/teeth as I would have liked, but I did enjoy how much less commercialized it was. The water was pretty clear, warm, and was not knocking us over while we walked. Downside was that there were a lot of beach access points closed off from the boardwalk so you had to stay on that for a time to get to stairs down to the beach. Would definitely go back! read more

My husband and I woke up early to go shark tooth hunting at Caspersen Beach. I loved that this beach is so different than the usual Gulf coast beaches. The sand is darker (must be super hot in the summer so wear some flip flops), there are rocks and the beach is long and thin. A nice change of pace from the white sand touristy beaches. There are a few small parking lots and the bathroom facilities are extremely nice! We spent numerous hours shell hunting and shark tooth hunting. The time really did go fast and we found numerous shells and some small shark teeth. We did come prepared with a sand sifter, you can pick them up at locals stores as well as Walmart for about twenty dollars. You will be happy you have one. We will be back to hunt for more shark teeth! read more

The beach is really clean. Depending on the time of day it may be busy. There was not much parking but the wait for a spot was worth it.

What a beautiful fun place! This is famous as the perfect beach to find fossilized shark teeth. The water was a bit rough , lots of rocks, lots of shell pieces, and bits of all sorts of marine life (baby sea urchins, algae, sponges, etc.) Finding the teeth was not easy - and most were really tiny. Shark tooth capital of the world! If you go here you will fine teeth. The beach is not really swimable, it has strong waves but great for picnic and lounging. Super fun finding the teeth it becomes addictive plan for the day. They also have a kayak ramp that leads into Red Lake and some nice waterways with lots of mangroves. read more

Really fun beach for kids to look for shells and shark teeth. Do not go to lay on the beach, too much wind and seaweed. Go to the fishing pier before the beach to buy a shell scooping devise to help you find tiny shark teeth. You scoop up the sand and shells, let the waves wash out the sand and you are left with cool little shells and teeth, they are easy to find and the kids go crazy for them. read more

Down the road from Venice Beach, is this park, which offers way more. It is huge with biking and hiking trails away from the coast. The beach is better but you have to find your spot and there are many rocky areas near the lot, so you need to walk a distance south of the lot for a good spot. Lots of turtles and raccoons in the bushes away from the water. There is one bathroom, no concession stand, but there are some BBQ. It is a good place to walk the trails and along the channel from Venice. read more

Absolutely loved our trip here. Kids and adults had a ball searching for Shark teeth. We even got to see a gopher tortoise! Parking is limited but if you get there early it's ok. Many of the ramps have stairs down to the beach that makes it a little hard to bring a stroller or beach wagon down. At high tide there is little beach to laze about on so be prepared that if it's crowded you may have a difficult time finding a great place to sit. This is a beautiful beach in Sarasota county. Great for collecting shells and shark teeth. I guess too many people know about the sharks teeth because they were few and far between when I was there but I did find a good sized hermit crab in the water which I thought was awesome. I'm not sure if I am reviewing this under the correct name, as I thought the beach was just Venice Public Beach. But my sister and I came here interested in what we read about finding sharks teeth at the beach. Parking was tough, but we did eventually find a spot in municipal parking that wasn't too far to the beach. Parking rates are average, cheaper of course, during the week which is when we went. We were also able to rent an umbrella and two very nice beach lounge chairs for a very good price. The beach was nice and clean, and the waves were a little choppy but very manageable. But what we found is that sharks teeth are in a lot less supply on this beach than shells! We managed to find two sharks teeth, which was really cool but we had a lot more fun scooping out shells from the water with our toes. The town looks really cute, but we didn't have time to do any walking or shopping. :( Definetely a fun beach to visit. read more

I visited Casperson Beach many years ago and recently returned to bring my kids. There is more parking, and a nice bathroom and rinse off area now. I imagine on the weekends it gets crowded. We went on a weekday and found parking pretty easily but the lot was close to full. There is a small protected area of water behind a reef of rocks and we stayed there as the water on the beach was otherwise too rough to safely let my small kids play in. They had a great time in the protected area. We brought our own sifters and found 7 shark teeth during our 2 hour visit. The shelling was great! We collected a lot of coral and beautiful miters. My kids thought the blackish sand was neat, and it was softer than I remember. Worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

I have been going to this beach since before I can remember. my parents were married on this beach. my family live in Venice and Nokomis so when we come to visit we spend most of our days here. We have come down to Venice Florida the past 6-7 years and come straight to this beach. it is a loads of fun and very nice. the beach goes on for miles and a lot of people are there but the farther you walk down the beach, the more secluded it gets. there is nice plush sand, loads of shells and you can shark teeth hunt in the sand and shells while you are there. there is barely an trash and it is very rare to find it because there are people that come out to the beach and pick it up. I have never seen any sharks while I have visited which I have visited about 3 times every year . But there is a lot of wild life. Every year I have seen tortoises, birds, jellyfish, fish and live coral. There are showers to rinse off after swimming and public bathrooms towards the parking area. the parking area is pretty well sized and is a short walk from the beach but it is worth the walk to the beach so you don't constantly see cars while trying to enjoy the ocean. it is a very nice beach and I love to visit every year.
