Very rarely do I give 5 stars, but here we are.
(I am still dreaming about that Breakfast Poutine).
This is a review on BRUNCH only!
Came in on a Saturday around 2pm for Brunch (brunch goes from 9am to 3pm). We were seated at a table in the window and out waitress was very nice and friendly. We only got water to drink and placed our orders fairly quickly. Since we were one of the only tables there, our food came out fairly quickly.
Breakfast Poutine:
Holy Hannah was this amazing. What's not to love on it? Maple glazed pork belly? Good. Parmesan Fries? Good. Sriracha aoli? Good. Cheese curds? Goooood.
You even get to choose the way you want your eggs (I did scrambled), your choice of gravy (I went with Hollandaise). The ONLY thing missing from my plate was the butter garlic spinach, but that is ok because I didn't even miss it (honestly I didn't even realize it was missing until I sat down to write this review and looked at the menu description haha).
All of the flavors together just sang in harmony and danced on your tongue in your mouth. My friend kept trying to eat off of my plate and was surprised at how well the Hollandaise paired with all of the ingredients. That sauce, paired with the cheese curds, and parm fries, and bacon really made for a rich but flavorful dish. You would think that with all those flavors and textures it wouldn't come out as good as it did, but here were are... 5 stars.
Cowboy Skillet:
Maple Bacon? YUM. Corned Beef? Never had it, but tried it, yum. BBQ Pulled Pork? Melt in your mouth tender. Sriracha Onion Fritters? Crispy nuggets of yum.
This was a meat pile to the extreme. My friend kept saying "OMG there is more meat under here. What is this? There is a whole pile of meat under this egg!" it was like finding happy little meat surprises all over his plate. His portion was huge and he could hardly finish his meal. All that was left was one piece of delicious toast. Just like the Bfast Poutine, all of the different flavors seems a little off-putting when you read the menu, but together they paired really well and created a unique and flavorful dish. I have never had corned beef before, and I am still not sure what it is, but I enjoyed what was on his plate!
The portions were huge and we literally had to go walk around City Centre for 2 hours to burn off breakfast (truth be told, we went back to the hotel to take a nap and sleep off the food coma but the cleaning lady was there so we had no choice but to go walk around haha).
Seems pricey at first, came to $32.75 for just the 2 meals and no drinks, not including tip - but once you see the portions you understand why. We really should have boxed up half to take home.
This place was so good that we actually thought about coming back here on Sunday morning. I am looking forward to my next trip to St. John to try other items on the menu.
Overall:
