I had an appointment with Dr. Chala to look at knee pain I've been having for 6 weeks. He did a thorough exam, and ordered an MRI which I got done within 45 min just down the hall. Then I saw him right after the MRI to diagnose the problem and he proceeded to order a cortisone shot and physical therapy. I got the shot before I left the office. Now on my way to feeling much better in a quality and highly effective visit today.

My scars are minimal and he clearly got me back to running in an unbelievable amount of time. Dr. Rawal is not much like others in his profession. I never waited more than a couple minutes in his waiting room (what??? Yes, I am sure I'm talking about an orthopedic surgeon). He spent time with me explaining my diagnosis, showing me the MRI images, answering my litany of questions, allaying my fears and truly caring about me. He also got me in for my first preference of surgery date. On my surgery day, he calmed me down when my anxiety began to kick in. He also showed me pictures from surgery both in recovery and again in my follow-up visit. I couldn't have been happier about my experience with him at the Hinsdale Surgical Center. I really should've sued them, but I was younger, and fairly naive. I had a female dr. whose name started with a Z. I can't remember the name, but she had dark hair. Anyways. She had my knee immobilized three times longer than it should've been, according to the other ortho dr's and physical therapists I've seen. At one of my appointments, I had a $30 co-pay and wasn't even in the building for a full 15 minutes! She asked if I could bend my knee yet, I said no. She poked around, asking if it hurt, I said yes, and she said to go to physical therapy. The physical therapist I went to immediately after said I had more scar tissue built up in my knee from being immobilized so long than I would've had if I'd had surgery.

When Hennessy showed up, he seemed to immediately assume I was interested in total knee replacement, a propos of nothing except possibly $$, and when I told him I preferred conservative treatment and had good success with PT and was there for assessment, he seemed to lose interest. He ran down the short list of treatments -- cortisone injection, the newer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections -- and when I leaned toward the former, he left the exam room and his PA took over. Didn't get an MRI even though it was on the referral form. His PA was a pro and made up for his cursory 5-minute "evaluation" by being thorough and caring. Got the cortisone shot which has helped even if it's a temporary measure. Visit did no harm, but I'm going somewhere else next time.
