This was flagged as one of the best pizza places in all of Illinois so it's been on my to try list…read morefor a while. Located on Seminary Street, cute shops surround and on street parking available. Unassuming from the outside and purely historic, refurbished, recycled everything inside. Jazz and classic rock was playing on a record player. Staff was lovely and helpful with questions. Order at the counter and take a seat. Glasses are chilled, no ice. Canned sodas, water, alcoholic beverages available. Pizza has 4 sizes, specials and make your own. Sandwiches, salads. I chose the goat cheese and herb pizza and it was sooooo good. Chewy yet crunchy, the crust is perfection. Takes 20-30 minutes when not just. Worth the wait. Will definitely come back when we are in the area.

I believe that my search for the BEST PIZZA in the world (outside of Italy) has ended…read more "BAKED PIZZA" in Galesburg, Illinois (you read correctly, ILLINOIS!) serves an unbelievable pie. I had a five hour layover between Amtrak journeys (Southwest Chief and California Zephyr) so wanted to have best possible nosh in this Abraham-Lincoln-Slept-Here town within walking distance from the train depot. Thanks to Google Maps, Baked Pizza was top on the list. Sadly, they are closed on Sundays - my scheduled stop in Galesburg. So, I went to another local pizza place. That was an unfortunate disappointment. But, say hallelujah!, my return trip was on a Wednesday, so Baked Pizza was my highest priority. And color me grateful to Google Maps! Fortunately, I found this little hole-in-the-wall without difficulty. I entered into a brick sided wonderland. It must have been a white rabbit that led me there. I could not believe my otherworldly experience. I was greeted by the most cordial of greeter, Estefania. She was ever so patient and accommodating with my hearing disability. Baked Pizza was off to a great start! I took my time deciding which of the Lewis Carroll's fantasy pizzas to choose while I sipped their Two Hearted IPA. The Herbs and Goat Cheese was the winner. And what a winner it is! Dominated by basil, the herbs are fresh and wonderful. The mozzarella are geniusly complimented by the gentle goat cheese. And the herbs! Youd think that you were in Provence! Finally, and not at all leastly, the garlic oil is a finishing touch without equal. I admit that I dismissed the garlic oil as an advertising gimmick. Nay, I say! This seemingly add-on is essential. It is a must for the definive crispy crust! IMO, there is no equal. So, the next time you're within 500 mile if Galesburg Illinois, try Baked Pizza. You won't be sorry.

Good little find just off I-74, in Woodhull, IL We were looking for a place for lunch while…read moretraveling. Genisio Bar & Grill didn't have many reviews, but the menu pics looked good, so we gave it a try. Glad we did! It's a nice little place, just a mile off the highway, so very convenient. It was busy over lunch! Obviously, it is "the place to be" for locals! Service was prompt and friendly. There are lots of choices on the menu, with sandwiches, salads and pizza/calzones. (No soups, which would be a nice addition to their menu.). They also have a kid's menu and dinner specials most evenings and the server said they get very busy at night. They also had a daily special, which was pot roast with carrots and potatoes today. The server described the tenderloins as hand pounded and breaded onsite. The corned beef for the Rueben is slo cooked fresh as well. So, my husband got the tenderloin and I got the Rueben. Both were generous in size and very good! I actually took half home as I was too full! Fries were crisp and hot. They have beer in bottles and cans, as well as soft drinks. The atmosphere was comfortable and it appeared to be very clean. We're glad we stopped and will keep this little place on our list of places as we travel! (PS--the menu had been updated from the original ones posted. I am posting updates.
