This was flagged as one of the best pizza places in all of Illinois so it's been on my to try list for a while. Located on Seminary Street, cute shops surround and on street parking available. Unassuming from the outside and purely historic, refurbished, recycled everything inside. Jazz and classic rock was playing on a record player. Staff was lovely and helpful with questions. Order at the counter and take a seat. Glasses are chilled, no ice. Canned sodas, water, alcoholic beverages available. Pizza has 4 sizes, specials and make your own. Sandwiches, salads. I chose the goat cheese and herb pizza and it was sooooo good. Chewy yet crunchy, the crust is perfection. Takes 20-30 minutes when not just. Worth the wait. I believe that my search for the BEST PIZZA in the world (outside of Italy) has ended. "BAKED PIZZA" in Galesburg, Illinois (you read correctly, ILLINOIS!) serves an unbelievable pie. I had a five hour layover between Amtrak journeys (Southwest Chief and California Zephyr) so wanted to have best possible nosh in this Abraham-Lincoln-Slept-Here town within walking distance from the train depot. Thanks to Google Maps, Baked Pizza was top on the list. Sadly, they are closed on Sundays - my scheduled stop in Galesburg. So, I went to another local pizza place. That was an unfortunate disappointment. But, say hallelujah!, my return trip was on a Wednesday, so Baked Pizza was my highest priority. And color me grateful to Google Maps! Fortunately, I found this little hole-in-the-wall without difficulty. I entered into a brick sided wonderland. It must have been a white rabbit that led me there. I could not believe my otherworldly experience. I was greeted by the most cordial of greeter, Estefania. She was ever so patient and accommodating with my hearing disability. Baked Pizza was off to a great start! I took my time deciding which of the Lewis Carroll's fantasy pizzas to choose while I sipped their Two Hearted IPA. The Herbs and Goat Cheese was the winner. And what a winner it is! Dominated by basil, the herbs are fresh and wonderful. The mozzarella are geniusly complimented by the gentle goat cheese. And the herbs! Youd think that you were in Provence! Finally, and not at all leastly, the garlic oil is a finishing touch without equal. I admit that I dismissed the garlic oil as an advertising gimmick. Nay, I say! This seemingly add-on is essential. It is a must for the definive crispy crust! IMO, there is no equal. So, the next time you're within 500 mile if Galesburg Illinois, try Baked Pizza. When I heard a pizza joint made the Yelp Top 100 in my old college town, I knew it was a must try! We were not disappointed. Like many rural establishments, baked's seating area is adorned with piecemeal furniture on a well worn floor. In short, baked works with what they were given. That being said, the decor is not why you visit this establishment. The eclectic pizza toppings make for a unique flavor profile. During my two visits I've tried the Beef & Blue, the Super Cheese (add Italian sausage), and cheesy bread appetizer. All were solid; definitely will be back. My only struggle during the meal was not realizing the walls were open to chalk drawing. Leaning against it in a black hoodie provided a few challenges, but nothing that would derail my overall opinion. As I will be back and forth to the 'burg over the next few years, baked will be one of our top choices for dinner. I am known as Pizzaman! I have had a life long quest to find/create the best pizza. My quest is over! White sausage pizza and Yukon gold pepper pizza were amazing. Crust sauce toppings primo. Cool funky atmosphere. Friendly. Chalk art and vinyl record collection that they put to great use. My favorite discovery was Neil Young After the Gold Rush and More of The Monkees! Fun and funky. I dined at baked for the first time with my husband and in-laws on Saturday, 02/18/23. We had reservations for 4:30. Reservations are highly recommended, as we witnessed several people being turned away during our visit. It's an interesting restaurant, with mix-and-match retro kitchen tables and chairs. The walls are painted with chalkboard paint, and they supply chalk for patrons to decorate, if they wish. They have a large collection of vinyl records and played The Beatles' Revolver while we waited for the pizzas. My in-laws chose soda to drink, which is served in cans. I noticed a couple of fellow patrons drinking beer from cans as well. My husband and I chose water, and we were handed mason jars from a freezer and directed to water pitchers with spigots on a self-service table that also contained straws, napkins, etc. We ordered the white sausage pizza, super cheese (one with provolone and mozzarella, and one with mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan, and goat), beef and blue, and my father-in-law ordered sausage and pepperoni. The pizzas were very good, and the service was excellent. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, and I would gladly eat here again. The two employees I saw during my visit were wonderful. Their service was friendly & quick, well, maybe not so quick on the baking of a deep dish pie, but as quick as could be expected ;) I got a pie with bacon, sausage, mushrooms, red onion & bell peppers & it was exquisite! The crust was perfect, the sauce to cheese & toppings ratio was on point, I couldn't imagine lucking into a better spot while just hopping off the train waiting for my connecting bus. The staff offered to let me keep my bags there as I went next door to grab a coffee, but I felt it was best to not put anything extra on them & just haul my belongings with since it was just the two of them & my stuff shouldn't be their responsibility. I have no idea why I have not tried Baked until now. I get so frustrated ordering pizza from most of the pizza places locally here in our small town. Our local newspaper had a article that Baked was rated the number 1 pizza place in Illinois, so I had to try it the exact day that I read the article. I found it a little hard to decide what type of pizza to order so I chose 3 types, with help from the person who answered the phone when I called to order. I am not exaggerating to say that each of the 3 pizzas was outstanding. It would be really hard for me to pick a favorite of the three. I ordered carryout but I can't wait to go there to dine in and experience the cool vibe that the restaurant has. The prices are outstanding, the service was so good that I actually tipped them even though I didn't dine in. Decided to try a new restaurant, so we drove over to Galesburg and got two pizzas, white sausage & portabella and swiss. We went a little earlier to avoid it being too busy. You could tell they were slammed with orders, but they still provided a recommendation for pizzas to choose. Did not take move than about 20 minutes to get the pizzas, which gave us time to look at all the chalk art and chat. We did witness a customer ahead of us being quite insistent about a pizza they wanted that wasn't on the menu with random ingredients that aren't on any of the pizzas.
