I never know…read morewhat I will find when visiting the store, but I can always find an inexpensive gift or a piece from a local artisan. The employees are not only friendly but also so helpful. If you cannot find something in the shop that suits your needs, they will search for what you may be interested in and special order it without any additional charges. If you want something personalized, they are glad to do it and make much of the jewelry they sell in-house, even making something to order if you request it. There is a reason that this store wins "Best of Denton" year after year.

The person working at the store was friendly and welcoming when I came in. When I told her I was just checking stores out she told me to make myself at home and let her know is I have any questions. As I looked around I noticed several artistically made items. From a set of glasses made from Topo-Chico bottles to handmade Chap Stick, this place had a nice variety of items to choose from. I also noticed while I was there that this place offers arts and crafts classes right in the middle of the store. They also keep some items out on the table to entertain children while their parents shop. It was nice and refreshing to find a store like this, and I plan to visit them on future visits!

As another reviewer mentioned, it takes a while to get your order. In my opinion this isn't a negative thing because quality over quantity is clearly important to the owner. And speaking of the owner, if you get the chance to meet her she is absolutely adorable and super sweet! In addition to the embroidery studio there are beautiful original paintings and artwork by various artists, jewelry and equestrian clothing for sale.

I was surprised because the shop-- which sort looks like a cross between a Kirkland's and a thrift store, and is VERY over priced, especially the "art gallery" which is just sort of kitchy/amateur, paint-by-number looking acrylic landscape and horse paintings-- is very much out of the way. I was also surprised at the casual attitude that the person I spoke with had about not meeting their obligations to their customers. I decided to take my business to another small shop in Frisco, TX where they did excellent work in less than a week.

Patchouli Joe's Books was an okay bookstore for me…read more After reading some of their amazing reviews, and exploring some of the other bookstores around Denton I had high expectations for this store. However, I don't know if we caught them on a bad day, if their inventory was really low after Indie Bookstore Day the weekend before, or if the stars just weren't aligned that day but the store itself was very empty. The book selection was minimal and the staff was not exactly helpful. Frankly the store felt too big for the minimal amount of books they had. Also customer service was absent that day and after asking some questions to the person at the counter you could tell he just didn't want to be there. The difference in customer interaction between this store and others around Denton was like night and day. Would I come back to Patchouli? Maybe, but it wouldn't be my first stop when visiting Denton.

And you create a space that honors the building and updating it with warm wood and fixtures, you're doing it right in my opinion. I loved the selections offered here and so did my daughters and granddaughter. Yes, I bought books here and my granddaughter was thrilled. There's a dedicated children's area with nice seating for them. There was a touch of magic there. Kids were happy and couldn't wait to get to the next book. That is what a book store is supposed to be about. I met the owners and both are genuinely nice and they care about their customers and their business. Both are very knowledgeable and more than happy to help in any way. If you're in Denton, you need to drop in and browse around - I bet you walk out with a great book!
