Run as fast as you can. I should have known to stay away when they were the only electrician in the Portland area who was able to see me within a few weeks time frame. Everyone else was booked out 6 months. Casco Bay sent 2 technicians to my house to install two light fixtures and 5 outlets. One was a licensed electrician, the other was not. They chose where it was "easy" to install, not where it was "right" to install. One of the technicians broke a mirror that I purchased with my mother that cost $1400 a decade ago. I didn't make a big deal at the time because it was an accident, but I was really upset. Imagine my shock when I received an invoice for over $1500!!!!!!! They charged me the labor equivalent of $600,000 per year!!! I was charged full retail for the non-licensed electrician who took way longer to do the job. Thinking there was a typo I tried contacting the office. No one returned two emails or 4 phone calls. They sent a notice (by email-not in writing as require) stating if I didn't pay the full invoice today they were putting a lien on my house. I spoke to Dan who denied everything and claimed the second technician was "almost licensed". Do you want to go to a doctor who is "almost licensed"? They took a measly $200 off for the mirror because the technician said "that's what it was worth". So now, their technician is also an appraiser and can value high end mirrors? I paid the invoice but will be filing a complaint with the licensing bureau. I am in the process of getting estimates for a renovation to my house. Concerned about the cost of electricians, I showed the Casco invoice to 4-5 contractors. Each of them told me I was egregiously overcharged and one even called it extortion! Yes, stay far away. At the very least get an estimate in writing and hire a lawyer. They haven't heard the last from me. read more

The first pleasant surprise when calling was reaching a live person answering the phone. No press's this number or that number to reach a live person hassle. The person I spoke to was pleasant and professional. She informed me that due to the recent wind storm they were booked quite far out, but if I had flexibility in my schedule, they would try to fit me in as I had a small but urgent repair needed ( new outlet for the stove). When a spot opened up, the persons doing the scheduling clearly outlined their rates and their Covid protocols, which I felt was a good sign I had picked the right electricians. Not only were they able to fit me in, but the electrician sent was polite, pleasant and professional. He even went out his way to be able to complete the replacement when a non standard situation with the outlet arose. I highly recommend CBE. read more

Not a good experience with Casco Bay Electric. The guy in the office made the situation worse. See attached photo showing that they didn't mount the light fixture flush to my high stairwell ceiling. There is a gap at the ceiling. It isn't about the foreman spending much of his time on the phone during my job. It is about the questionable business practice of a company that requires its employee to talk on the phone about the previous weekend's calls while he is supposed to be concentrating on my job. Casco Bay Electric sent three workers to my home unprepared and without the proper equipment (two came in company trucks, but neither had the proper ladder to change a stairway ceiling light fixture) after I notified them the week prior about the work to be done. Without informing me, they assigned a third electrician to my job because his crew didn't show up for work that day. So I had 3 electricians at my house to change 7 existing ceiling light fixtures and one existing wall timer switch. I was billed 3+ hours for each man (the foreman's charge was removed after I complained, so the final charge was 6+ total hours. That is over 45 minutes per item). The foreman made it clear that he didn't want to address the principal reason they were there: to run wires for exterior lighting and an interior switch. They didn't even touch that part of my job. By using this technique of sending three electricians for a job a single person could have done alone, I can only think that this was Casco Bay Electric's attempt to cover the salaries of three people at my expense. When I told the guy in the office that I would speak with the owners if they call me, he wrote "I don't need to waste anyone else's time with this..." Don't hire Casco Bay Electric. The guy in the office acts like they are doing you a favor. Take your $$$ elsewhere. read more

I was recommended to Casco Bay for a screened in porch project by a contractor. A total of 3 outlets, a ceiling fan and outdoor light. All within a close proximity to the box, each component breaks down to $320, highway robbery, a friend of mine was ripped off by them this spring. Wish I had known it was the same company, I would have went elsewhere. It was the same company, was the work done well? Sure! At a rate of $320 per item, not so much, have a feeling they like to price gouge, looking elsewhere for the hot tub wiring. read more
