This was my first time at the Cascade Theater. I visited for a viewing on a local documentary film called "ACID Canal". I thought the theater was beautiful and has a really cool olden day feel to it. I definitely see myself returning to the Cascade Theater for future events! I didn't like that security did not allow me to bring in my thermoflask water bottle but I understand why the rule is in place. Although I did appreciate that on this specific night, the security staff was willing to let me leave my bottle with them at the front and let me pick it up after the showing. read more

Wow! What nicely restored theater. According to the theater website, it was built in 1934-35 and opened the summer of 1935. The interior is a feast for the eyes with beautifully restored Art Deco architecture and art. The staff for the evening was a collection of real, professional, and friendly people. We were here for a concert with comfortable seats in the Orchestra section on the left aisle. We had a great view of the stage and the sound system was excellent. During intermission, I looked around and am convinced that there is not a bad seat in the house. I hope that the opportunity presents itself for us to return to Cascade Theater. read more

I love the cascade theater and all the volunteers that are involved with the production. However "security" at the front door was not kind. A family member needs to have water with her for a medical condition. They did not seem to care. We mentioned this to them and they said it could be alcohol. We then proceeded to pour it out in front of them showing them it was just water. Then they changed their mind and said "it could be a projectile". This reasoning is flawed. Considering everyone's phone and even the water bottle's they sell at the snack stand could also be considered projectiles. It seemed they were not making any reasonable effort to help accommodate us. To me and my family members it seemed unprofessional and inappropriate they way they treated us at a family event such as the one we went too. Just be aware if you have any medical conditions requiring accommodations, because they don't seem to care. read more

Purchased Ticket to see Shane Smith on 10/7, very excited to see this band made famous on Yellowstone. Paid 147, got the tickets just now, says they are worth 32.50 each for total of 65. Etix, the only company you can buy tickets from added over 100% to the cost of the tickets, and has the temerity to call it market value. Day before the show, still tickets available in every section, so thats a lie as well. Be prepared to pay 100% extra due to the theaters choice of ticket seller. I used to go to this Theater as a kid, back when they had older movies for a dollar. I was excited when they updated and remodeled the place. I went to shows with my parents, I went to shows with friends and even by myself once or twice. Now they are just another venue caving to the Covid Vaccine mandate Nazis. So disappointing. I won't be coming back until the management is fired and the new management issues an apology for the stupidity and shortsightedness of the previous management. I hope they suffer financially for this decision. It would be well deserved. I have great memories of this place, a pity I won't be making any new ones. read more

I love the Cascade Theater! What a beautiful renovation! We were able to catch the comedian, Brian Regan, at the Cascade last Thursday. It is so nice to enjoy a show surrounded by so much beauty. I would have to agree with Buzz F. that the sound is a little muddy. They had to stop the show to do a sound check and even after that it was still a tad muffled. Also another thing, I was roasting it got so hot in there. This has been my third show at the Cascade and I hope to go to several more in the years to come. P.S. The bartender made a good gin and tonic. For $6 it was a very good pour. read more

I came to the Cascade Theater because a good friend has helped book my favorite band, the Los Lonely Boys in early September of this year. A friend and I drove up from the Bay Area and found the show well worth it as always. The directions from 'Chateau Super 8' were a bit confusing by MapQuest but I found it. It's in the small town of Redding with a few bars and restaurants on the same block. The venue is beautiful. Especially from the front row. If you look up, check out the beautiful paintings on the ceiling. View the photos I've uploaded. The seats were comfortable, the lighting was great, the sound - wonderful. Whoever is running the Cascade needs to be sacked, immediately. Needs to be put out on the curb -- and not in the recyclables bin. It was a short time ago when there were so many great musical acts being booked into the Cascade that you either had to go once a week -- sometimes twice -- to catch everyone you wanted to see, or you had to do some painful triage when you looked at the schedule. And when you went to the shows, they were packed. So well attended, in fact, that getting a drink at the bar was a bit of a pain in the ass because the lines were so long (another rant that I'll save for another day). This year? First of all, the schedule was pretty much a blank slate the entire Spring of 2017. Then, when the schedule started to trickle out, the GM was quoted as saying something like, "Olivia Newton John is our biggest act this year." In what universe is Olivia Newton John the biggest act on the schedule? Maybe in the Cascade's new universe, where the schedule is diminished, at best. Last night we went to see Lucas Nelson and The Promise of the Real. Lucas is Willie Nelson's kid, and he's a legit talent. He and his band spent time during the last year or so as Neil Young's backing band. Dude has an amazing voice, somewhat reminiscent of his dad's at times (when he wants it to be--Lucas wears his influences on his sleeve), but with far more range and power. He also has legit guitar chops as the bands lead guitarist. Granted, he's not a superstar, but he's known, and the place should have been at least 3/4ths full. I found out about the show two days ago. Two days ago! I've been a Cascade member for years and years, and that's how lame the promotion is for Cascade shows these days. So the crowd that's there is enthusiastic, and the show goes well, but the place is ONE-FOURTH FULL! On a Saturday night! What. The. Christ. It was embarrassing. At the end of the show Lucas asks that the house lights be brought up so that he can see the crowd (such as it is). The lights come up, he looks out at the empty seats (confirming what he must have sensed from the volume of cheering). He has a little huddle with his band, then steps up to the mic and says, "Yeah, I think we'll skip the encore. My voice is shot, and we have other shows coming up this week. We'll be selling and signing swag in the lobby in a few minutes if you want to meet us. Peace out." Dick move? Hell no. Well deserved. The message to the Cascade was: You did a half-assed job, so we're doing a half-assed job. There's no excuse. There are bands making the drive between Portland and the Bay Area/Sacramento with a night or two to kill between shows, and it's the easiest thing in the world for them to get off I-5 and do a show in Redding. And as everyone knows and the talent often remarks from the stage, the Cascade is a magnificent venue. History shows that the place will sell out, even mid-week. No excuse. The people who do the promoting at Vintage and The Dip know what's up--I get bombarded with social media promotions from those places. I see posters with schedules. I get regular emails. And many of the bookings at those small venues are magical--The Suitcase Junket show at the Vintage recently was crazy good. If nothing else, hire one of those people. They know how to promote. Like I said, Lucas Nelson isn't a superstar, but he's obviously well connected. Ditto for Joan Osborn--what if her upcoming show is one-fourth full? What happens if the Cascade gets a reputation as a place that sells less than half its seats? I love live music and I love the Cascade, and the whole thing frosts my ass. read more

Sound was terrible-too loud & distorted-couldn't even make out the songs. security was rude-making people sit down or move to the sides to dance-at the Wailers & LosLobos!! The bands kept telling people to Stand Up-don't think they like it either. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't come back. Love this venue! Not too big (under 1000), easily accessible, parking and restaurants in walking distance. One complaint is - the music at the Colt Ford event was sooooo loud we had to leave mid show. The Chris Isaak didn't have this issue, perhaps it's the band who set the volume. We live in WA and were traveling through Redding. We thought we'd stop and see a show so bought tickets online for a Christmas Story at Cascade Theatre - or so we thought. Our invoice says Cascade Theatre, the address is for Cascade theatre and the tickets were supposed to be at Will Call. We arrived only to find our tickets were for "Riverfront Playhouse" - a small strip mall warehouse theatre off-site. By that time we were late for the show, the parking lot was full and it was such a bad experience to that point, we just left. $36 down the drain. I've returned to the website, Facebook and Twitter of Cascade Theatre to see if MAYBE it was MY mistake - did I just miss an important point? No. Nowhere is Riverfront Playhouse even mentioned. BEWARE if you buy tickets from this poorly run organization. They assume everyone knows there are 2 venues, but how could anyone from outside Redding know? Apparently they don't want out of town visitors. Oh, and no refunds. Period. read more

My daddy used to take me to movies here when I was little. This is where I saw Superman, and we ate Red Vines and Nonpareils. Nothing but good memories. :) When I heard they were renovating it years back I was a little sad, but when we went to see Joan Osborne here a few days ago I was so pleased to see the restoration that had taken place. The space is beautiful and welcome addition to the increasingly vibrant downtown area. They have done such a lovely job turning the space into a little cultural mecca and bringing new acts and events to Redding with these changes. I have great memories of the Cascade from my younger years, and now I'm excited to make new memories in such a beautiful revitalized space. read more

Performers from Lyle Lovett to Robert Cray to Ladysmith Black Mambazo can be experienced in a way that larger venues can't duplicate. A number of good restaurants and bars nearby. Tips; 1) Become a member for about $50 and get advance ticket purchase and ticket exchange privileges. 2) Park at the mall 1 block west and make the short walk up Placer. 3) Have a friend or family member who needs handicapped seating? Great seats and wheel chair area reserved for those in need and their guests can sit with them. read more

Definitely the best music venue I've been to in California. Not only does it have concerts, but it also has events and live performances. For example, I had my high school graduation here. It is quite a large theater, but the acoustics (usually) echo off the walls and ceilings, so it's OK if you are stuck with a back row seat as far as that goes. It is intricately and beautifully decorated inside the theater, so much that it seems almost worth it just to see it. read more

It's good to have a venue that attracts some of the musical acts that I really enjoy - inside and at night. Parking isn't good right by the theater, but there are several large lots on the west side of the Downtown Redding Mall, about a block away along California Street. Visited the Cascade Theatre on 2/9 for the Robert Cray Band concert. The theatre is beautiful and we had amazing seats. The opening act Cold Sweat was good but the saxophonist was AMAZINGLY talented and really stood out. The theatre staff was friendly and attentive and the crowd was lively. Tried to redeem a gift certificate given to me by my boss. Was told that the certificate had already been used. In addition, the staff stated that they had changed ticketing systems and every gift certificate that had not been redeemed was on their list. Well, mine wasn't on the list so I couldn't use it. Buyer beware of you are purchasing these as gifts. Kind of embarrassing when you try to redeem the gift and you are told that it isn't any good because you have already redeemed it. read more

Went to see a matinee of Cascade Christmas and the show was OK but the security people were smoking outside the main entrance and we had to walk through a cloud of smoke to get in. When I said something to them they gave me a snotty comeback. The law in CA is no smoking within 20 feet of building entrances and they were definitely breaking the law on that one. There were two vans of seniors visiting town who were disembarking from their vans and had to walk through the smoke as well. This doesn't reflect well on Redding. read more

Went to see Elf the Musical with my grandchildren today and we were all very disappointed. We haven't missed a performance of Cascade Christmas for ten years and we always look forward to this tradition. The show was boring and not all that appropriate for children in spots. Didn't think Santa drinking alcohol was a necessary addition. Sorry I spent $100 for an afternoon of disappointment. read more

I see Pat Benatar is on tour again this year. The last time I bought tickets and the lady on the phone said: It is a cute small place and ALL THE SEATS ARE GOOD! She Lied to me. I paid 18.00 each $36.00 for 2. My wife & I were seated in the Nose-Bleed Upper Deck. The Stupid Sound Tec's of The Cascade Theatre HAD NO SPEAKER/SOUND SYSTEM IN THE WHOLE UPPER DECK AREA! My wife was Upset because the gals behind us & next to us were singing to the songs louder than Pat Benatar! We Could not even hear her! This experience Sucked! I swear I will never buy another Concert Ticket for that CLIP/Rip Off Raunchy Joint! We needed a pair of Binoculars just to see her face! We just saw small little body's & could hardly make out their heads. I also Will NEVER recommend this place to any of my friends for a Concert, They can Slip it and go to a fair outside is better. I rate this place as BAD! BEWARE! You can spend $50 to $75.00 Each for seats on the floor area but the Old Crappy place still is not worth spending your hard earned Money. Some of the ignorant people posts about the sound bouncing off the walls & ceiling but they are full of crap. I think they are hyping up the place to blow their own horn. The band had Amps & PA System facing straight ahead toward the floor seated area with NOTHING MOUNTED or Angled up toward the Lodge Upper Deck area where the sound was almost nothing. No Monitors were mounted in the high area. I know about sound systems because I have worked with friends who designed Amplifier's for Fender, Randall & Rickenbacker. No Lie. read more

I used to work at the Cascade when it was a movie theater. When I was a kid, it had one HUGE screen. By the time I was a pre-teen, they divided the theaters into quarters. Since it closed, Redding finally got off their ass and remodeled the entire building. They did a GREAT job. It's very retro and because it's fairly small, I find it to be very intimate for shows/performances. If you haven't been to the Cascade since the remodeling, you gotta go now. The greatest dancer and choreographer, James Santos, is an entertainer you should not miss. He's in almost every show. Check out the website for details. read more

The cascade is an old theater with a huge stage, it tends not to get many good plays but its worth it to be in the theater itself!

Amazingly restored theater. The balcony seats are all pretty good, but there's no elevator to the second floor if you have mobility issues. Don't miss a chance to check this theater out. read more
