Through an art world acquaintance (the chef paints too!), I learned of The Catering Cooperative and was wowed by the tasting which was merely a glimpse of the fabulousness that the Cooperative unleashed in my home. From start to finish, first meeting to cleanup, Chance and his crew took care of every detail. They were responsive to our group's special desires and the diverse dietary needs and culinary preferences. Chance clearly wanted to be sure we were pleased in the end and he'll be happy to know we most definitely were. The presentation on the night of the dinner was great; it felt like my dining room had transformed into a cozy private space in a just discovered gem in a swank neighborhood. Yes it's got a great view, but it's the same room in which I was working on a jigsaw puzzle that afternoon. And it's still smack dab in the heart of the Excelsior. My buddy really wanted a paella, and the one served was perfection. He said the details of that dish took him back to the trip he'd taken to Valencia Spain just as he'd hoped. DeVos) is from San Francisco, but he drove out to Oakland to do our little dinner party. He arrived about 10 minutes early, with all of his food and equipment in tow. He usually has an assistant, but he was flying solo that night. He was friendly and funny, yet unobtrusive, and provided impeccable service. He just seemed like a really great guy. Now let me talk about the meal! We started with an Artichoke Bisque which was sooooo delicious. It was as if an artichoke bathed itself in delicate spices and then decided to melt in your mouth. Ok, that was a weird analogy, but it was really that good. Then we moved to a Caesar salad with homemade croutons. The salad was perfectly garlicky, but not too overpowering. The entrée was a rack of Lamb that was perfectly seasoned and cooked. There was someone at the table who was not a really big Lamb fan, and even she thoroughly enjoyed it. Then there was desert. The desert was to die for!!!!!! Rob made a hazelnut cheesecake that was like heaven on a plate. It was more moist than a New York Cheesecake, but not excessively creamy either. It was perfect. I will be calling Rob for the very next event we need catered. I recommend him highly.

As a paying customer of Roddy's services, I believe I owe it to other potential consumers to let…read morethem know about a potential experience they might encounter, both good and bad, so that they can make a more informed decision moving forward. We contacted Roddy in Dec 2017 after researching possibilities of event staff online for our June wedding event. Roddy sounded extremely knowledgeable, experienced and confident with what he could provide to meet our needs: coordinated the timing of different food and beverage stations including appetizer, main, and dessert as well as cleanup of rented dishes, where transitions and timing were key to make things run smoothly. 4 workers from 4-9pm was suggested as sufficient. All payment was required and submitted previous to event. We agreed to meet in May 2017 to see the space and discuss layout, finer details and modifications. During this meeting, again, Roddy was confident, gave suggestions, and assured us that things could be done and did warn that timing between appetizer and main dinner would be tight, so we were able to plan a buffer just in case. Once we met in May, it also seemed that meeting the day before when everything was truly set up would be ideal. We were reminded that it would be another $75 per visit. In actuality, Roddy's visit wasn't for us, it was really so that he could lead his team to be confident and aware enough to deliver the level of service we agreed to. Roddy, without the extra visit, assured us that he was capable of doing the work we agreed to confidently. Before the actual event, I sent detailed notes via Google Drive so the recipes of our drink stations and other details we discussed could become even more familiar. On the actual even day, I will say, we got wonderful compliments to the entirety of the event, which does speak to Roddy and his staff's execution of many of the deliverables. However, there are bigger points that I do believe that consumers should be aware of: -Roddy's entire team of 4 did not all show up on time at the venue -Days before the event, Roddy was unreachable/barely responsive to talk through details with our event coordinator and myself, even on the phone and seemed unaware of some of the details according to the event coordinator. -Roddy seemed to not know anything about the notes sent previously and did not know how to navigate them printed out at the venue -Our beverages, which had detailed scaled recipes for lemonade and iced tea, were not followed and thus didn't taste good and were not consumed as much as they could have by our guests. -Lastly, Roddy and team arrived so under prepared that they asked the groom, who was getting married in an hour, questions about the notes and how to proceed, consuming him so much that he wasn't able to attend to other key details necessary for an extra smooth wedding for us -I will reiterate, that to a guests eye, things went really well. However, I feel that the under preparation, unresponsiveness leading up to the event and involving of the groom are absolutely unacceptable to the point that other consumers should be warned. It should also be noted that we did reach out to Roddy with concerns following the event with no response, explanation, or apology.

I should've gone with my gut when he couldn't make it to our first meeting, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After meeting him we hired him at the end of November last year, for our June 10th, 2017 wedding. Roddy agreed to come to a walk through one month before the wedding, but when the time came he did not show up. After that day, we tried calling and texting him but he did not respond. It was not until five days after the missed appointment until we heard back, this was when I decided to email him to cancel his services (three weeks before our wedding). Roddy apologized for the inconvenience, NOT for his unprofessional behavior, claiming that he was too busy to respond to us. When I tried to get my refund back, he threatened to have his "attorney" sue me because we canceled too late. Email chain below for proof. You, as the contracted party with what you claim is 6 years of experience, should be able to make scheduled appointments and plan ahead. For the deposit we paid, you did not provide us the kind of service that is remotely worth $370. Since you could not make the walk through, and refused to return our calls for five days, we were under the impression that you left us high and dry. As a paying customer, I would have expected you to at least check in with us via text, email, or phone - but you chose not to respond for five days after the missed appointment. That is quite simply a bad business practice, even if you were busy with back to back events. You did not show us the kind of respect that you should show a paying customer. Furthermore, after we tried to cancel your services, you did not offer any mediation--especially since our actions were a direct result of your inaction. You apologized for the inconvenience, even though you should have really apologized for your unprofessional behavior. This unprofessional behavior was made even more clear with your threat of using your "Attorney David Wells" to sue me. All of this has been a really disappointing experience.
