Choose this place after three weeks in the hood. Very clean and attended regularly by locals. What…read morea great choice. First they recognized we were Americans and they spoke English tous. They gave us English menus and really went out of their way to be sure we got what we thought we ordered. The atmosphere was amazing. Great original artwork everywhere and lovely background music in a clean environment. The seafood was superb. The. Chef definitely knew what to do with each piece I ordered. Octopus is extremely difficult to get right but this chef did. It was perfect. The best I have ever had. We ordered a Pinot from the region which complimented our menu selections very well. Dinner was typical of the region but so fresh and again perfectly cooked. For Americans looking for a place to experience the local good seafood I highly recommend this place. Worth it in every sense.

El Txoko Alaves is best when you come in a group. They serve excellent Spanish tapas that you won't want to skip and in order to try as many as possible, I recommend coming with friends and family to get a little taste of everything. They serve wild boar (jabalí) which is delicious as well as suckling pig (cochinillo, seriously yum!) and boquerones, a dish from the south of Spain which is basically fresh anchovies (recommended by the waiter). They have a great bar with a comfortable and almost mysterious atmosphere that makes you want to start drinking their excellent sangria as soon as you get seated. Tip: They don't only serve tapas but also main dishes which include their menu del dia. It starts at 12:30pm and for 13 mil you get a 3 course meal plus either a glass of wine, pisco sour or beer and a coffee or tea! Call and make a reservation, especially at lunch time because this place fills up!

When I went the first thing I noticed was how inviting the place was with the fun choice of music and how warm they kept it inside. I also really enjoy the layout of the bar. There are lots of little rooms, each with 3 to 5 tables which makes it perfect for a more private evening out, or you can also enjoy yourself at their classy bar. Naturally there is also space if you want to go out with a group of friends or have a happy hour with your work buddies. They even have karaoke, fun! There pisco sour was just yummy and they have some great things to nibble on as well. They cheese platter is beautifully arranged with salami and several artisanal cheeses. I tried their manchas a la parmesana (clams baked with parmesan cheese) which were not the best I've had, but good. Their empanadas we just fine as well the only strange thing is that they were served on a plate and covered in plastic rap (maybe a mishap). All in all a nice chill bar to spend an evening.
