I've visited Tramonto twice now and agree with friends that you come here primarily for the views, but during covid, you also come for the delicious food and quicker-than-normal and quality service.
A group of my neighbors decided to make an early dinner reservation at the restaurant over the holiday weekend (Fiestas Patrias). Due to the earlier-than-normal curfew, the restaurant stopped serving and turned off the music at 8 p.m. (normal Chilean dinnertime). Thankfully, we'd had two hours to enjoy pisco sours, sparkling wine, ceviche, provaleta, empanadas, entraña, and pizza.
Thanks to the pandemic, our temperatures were taken at the door and the menu (in English and Spanish) downloads onto your phone with via QR code.
I can highly recommend the blue cheese- and-carmenere empanadas, which also contain beautiful caramelized onions. Also, the trio of ceviches was lovely and the toasted bread crisps had a buttery garlic flavor. We ordered two warm provaletas that come with herbs, tomatoes, and walnuts, but only the second one was actually served at an acceptably warm temperature. I also recommend the pear, brie, and caramelized onion pizza. The pizza and pears are very thin but the flavor is good, though I would not call the dough "gourmet".
Possibly because it is winter or because of covid, the pool has been drained, but the evening view of the mountains was still the highlight of the meal, como siempre. read more
