It was a no-brainer staying at Casa Ybel for a 2nd time this year. While we've stayed at other resorts on the island the other 9 times and an Airbnb, we've also dabbled on two that were overtaken by tackiness and white wicker furniture. It's not a boutique hotel by any means but Ybel stands out from all the rest so far in Sanibel for me. Bedrooms are modernish but warm. Sheets are crisp white. Plus lines are clean and stylish but still keeping a Sanibel feel- without being hideous. I really don't like bragging about finances- but even driving past the entrance, Ybel is money. Grounds are immaculate! Service continues to shine especially checking in and out in their Reception Area housed as soon as you drive through the entrance with draping trees surrounding you. There are 2 restaurants on site with Coconuts by the pool and the Thistle Lodge being more formal. Ybel Resort's- newest food and beverage director- Michael Allen, adds new and creative dishes to the menu which was nice to see from the last time we were here in 2017. Aside from simple amenities like umbrella and beach chairs coming in at $30 day, I really find plenty to love here. And identical to our 1st trip, hubs also got the Umbrella/ Beach Chair Package to give us some peace of mind. Despite the extra $$$ for such things, Ybel's so far has been THE only Hotel that fits to our liking with clean lines and organicky feel.

First time staying at Casa Ybel Resort in Sanibel. Service was pleasant and safe. Each room faces the water which is so magical in the morning to sit out and watch the water while you drink your coffee. Full kitchen came in very handy as we were not fully comfortable eating out yet. The room was large and clean. Beautiful florida vibe decor. Walk to the beach right from your room! Doesnt get better than that. Big property with lots to do (tennis, shuffleboard, bike rentals) a huge pool that is 11 feet deep! Great little poolside bar Coconuts, can not wait to come back snd try some of the other amenities out. If you are looking for a peaceful location for some rest and relaxation. This is it! Lots of restaurants around and cant beat the shelling and sunsets.

Large area of living room above couch paint peeling off and hanging down above our head on couch

Dumpy place, not worth the money. Went to stay here this past weekend for a special occasion with husband. Paid $350 a night for an oceanfront deluxe one bedroom. Walked in and the paint was literally peeling off the living room wall in a very big spot right above our head on the couch. The blinds where completely broken on one side, fridge was not clean. We drove over 3 hours to stay here and went to front desk. No other rooms available and she didn't know if she could refund us. Demanded to get supervisor on phone. Ended up leaving as it was broken, peeling and dumpy. DEFINITELY not worth $350. Maybe at $100 it would be ok but really not acceptable. Drove home well over 3 hour after this as couldn't find another room and our special weekend was ruined. Called today to talk to manager of operations Amy. Never called me back. They don't care. Trust me, stay somewhere else unless you are ok with broke, peeling and not so clean places for well over $300 a night. And I used to be a travel agent. Unacceptable to rent rooms like this.

We've been coming down here for years. Love the pool, love the beach, love the staff, especially the Coconuts bartenders, and love the views! The condos are updated and well taken care of. The kitchen is fully stocked. Did I mention the views are amazing? :) Great for a getaway with a friend, spouse or family!!

Where do I start? I think this place is amazing. The resort is very comfortable and clean, the staff is very friendly, I really enjoyed myself. I world recommend this place to anybody. I will be back.

Bed bugs!

This is an overrated resort. My husband and I planned a mini family gathering with our son and two granddaughters there 10/9-10/11. The receptionist at the desk made no attempt to welcome you and provided no information about the resort facilities or activities. We opened our two rooms and found out another mistake. Our son's room has one king size bed and ours with two queen beds. We were too tired to switch room. Thank goodness we didn't do that. We first thought we got mosquito bites at the poolside. My husband got the worst case. Awful bites all over his back, arms, and legs. After we got home and looked up. I realized those are actually bites from bed bugs. The room we stayed is Banyan room 116. Be aware! We brought a box of Italian cookies to share with our granddaughters. In no time they were covered with tiny ants when we left them on the kitchen counter. Ants are wve

I want to be fair but I am truly feeling generous giving this place 3 stars. Why? At first sight, this resort is just breathtaking. The grounds are beautifully maintained and immaculate. You have easy access to the gulf. The pool area has one very large pool, a nice whirlpool (although not very large), a small pool and a kids pool. Parking is easy and close to your unit. There is one restaurant on site. At first glance the rooms themselves are glorious. But...what you quickly realize is that this is not a hotel/resort as much as a timeshare masquerading as a 4-star resort. We were upgraded to a 2-bedroom 2-bath unit. It looks beautiful but it is cheaply built and decorated--more on that soon. One of our desires was to be facing the water. The unit does, but not the bedrooms. They are in the back with windows opening on to the entryways and stairs. Not only does that mean you can't lull yourself to sleep listening to waves lapping against the shore, but you feel kind of exposed so those drapes stay closed making the bedrooms feel dark and uninviting. And the beds are very uncomfortable. The bedding is all polyester. After 2 nights waking up sweating I finally figured out that the problem was a rubber mattress pad which does not breathe and crunches every time you move. The bathrooms are nice. Plenty of storage and a decent shower with ok water pressure. The toilets don't flush well. The latch on the bathroom door doesn't work well which meant having to slam it to close it securely. Meanwhile the screen door entry to the patio constantly stuck making it hard to open. The kitchen had plenty of storage. The cabinets themselves were so cheap they made Ikea look like the height of luxury. Cheap particle board is covered with faux wood contact paper that was peeling. No bellman to help with luggage. No poolside wait staff like every other resort we have frequented. Every food order made at the pool bar is cooked at the restaurant and then bussed to your table. By the time it reaches you if it was hot, it is now warm to cool. Because we were upgraded we had no maid service, unless we paid extra $$$. The final slap? The night before we check out we come home to a voice mail that we must check out at 10 am the next morning, not noon as advertised. No negotiating allowed because the owners are on their way and want their home (understandably). But they didn't explain this at check in which we would have appreciated. For the price, I feel cheated because this was not a luxurious 4-star resort which is what we thought we were paying for. However, compared to renting a condo somewhere, without any amenities, I can see why some people give this high marks.

Parking is abundant, that includes covered and uncovered parking areas. The pool area is very nice as well with a screened in bar area for drinks, and a hot tub off to the side as well. They also have gas grills available for people that would like to eat in, they aren't the best grills ever but easily get the job done. The resort has 3 "paths" to walk down to the beach which is about a mile and half from the light house. Also the resort office has umbrellas available to rent, a small reading library, and movies available as well. Some things I'm not overly crazy about but they don't really ruin the experience is that the hot tub is way too hot to enjoy if you are there during the summer months. I could see in the winter time it being refreshing but during the summer months they should turn the temperature down on the water. While the resort does have free wifi, the coverage is not very good. Most of the walking paths are gravel so if you are going barefoot you had better toughen up them feet. Overall staying here is a very enjoyable experience and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay while on the island.

We had a very good stay here…read more Our only minor glitches were during the reservation experience prior to coming and at checkout. After getting conflicting prices and confusion regarding one of the packages on the hotel website, I wrote to the general manager. I was subsequently helped by Alba in the reservation center who reached out to me. Frankly, she saved the day. Our check-in with Christie at the front desk was lovely and seamless. Our room was ready so we were able to check in a tad early. Christie gave us our key cards, vouchers, wristbands and car placard and explained all the things we needed to know about our stay. Her pleasing personality made us feel welcome. Our room was in the D section on the 4th floor. The one-bedroom with balcony had a partial gulf view, king size bed, living room/dining room, and full kitchen. The bathroom was modern with a walk in shower. We purchased a package including breakfast. Each morning we headed to the Captains Catch in the main building. The buffet was very good. There was plenty options from which to choose. The omelet/ eggs to order station was a nice addition. The first night, we ate dinner in the Japanese restaurant at the hotel. You need reservations for the hibachi section, but not for their sushi bar/table area. It was very good. (See separate review). We also visited the pool and the hot tub one day. And enjoyed walking along the beach. As we are from Florida, we didn't sit out sunning nor use the rec facilities except one day we stopped by to get towels. We did play a couple games of bingo by the pool, but that's it, and we did have a drink at the tiki bar. Drinks were just okay. Checkout was not the easiest as mentioned above -- after I realized I'd been charged an incorrect amount. Jamie did not handle the situation well. Luckily, I'd saved Alba's contact info so I called her from the checkout/front desk. She verified the correct charges. And an adjustment/credit was made to my credit card billing. Bottom line, this would have been a five star review. And the facility itself deserves that. But after a lovey relaxing mini vacation for my husband's birthday, my treat, I once again had to deal with a glitch that I thought was already resolved. And that's now my last impression.

We, as Hilton Grand Vacation (HGV) members, can travel freely and stay at numerous properties around the country and the world. Hurricane House works with HGV to allow HGV members to use some of its "condos" when the actual owners choose not to use them. That is how we ended up at Hurricane House during the first few days of September 2021. There are 15 units at Hurricane House and we were given one of the two story units (#6). We were aware that this is an older property but Hilton is pretty good about only offering its members quality accommodations. OK....the good first: Check in was a breeze and the exterior of the property was well maintained. Parking was plentiful and close. Each unit has one spot reserved in the first floor covered garage. First impression upon entering was very good. The first floor was a hallway, great room and kitchen. Furniture was comfortable and "beach themed" and very adequate. First floor flooring is all tile. The kitchen is a bit cramped (two people at a time) but well stocked with all you would need to prepare meals. Appliances are modern and very clean. Upstairs has two very large bedrooms with King beds. The "master" is larger with a totally adequate bathroom and lots of closet space. The smaller king bedroom has an extra sleeping space near the window. Upstairs carpeting is quality "waffle" material that is nice looking and easy on the feet. Both bathrooms have skylights that are a nice touch. Everything upstairs was easy on the eyes, clean and nicely decorated. A stacked compact washer and dryer is upstairs in a closet and works quite well. The pool area was small but nicely kept. Pool water was clean but not crystal clean. There were lots of chairs, tables, lounges and two jacuzzies but we didn't use them. The wood walkway to the beach is well maintained and has a shower, sink with running water (not sure what for) and a knee-level water sprayer to de-sand your feet upon returning. The property has a number of "sand chairs" you can take out to the beach and return when you are done. We didn't use the gas grills but there were, I think, three of them that were clean and ready for use. The beach behind the property is not very wide but the sand is clean. No seaweed events while we were there. Bring flip-flops as the sand can get very hot and the beach has many areas with sharp, crunchy areas of shells of all sizes. Now the bad: Both king mattresses were (for us) way too soft; and for me, at least, it affected my sleep. I cannot remember staying in a hotel or vacation property with mattresses this soft. The A/C thermostat is at the bottom of the stairs and cools the downstairs fine. Upstairs was warm. We cranked it down to 70 to try to cool the upstairs at night but it was still too warm for me. As the outside air temperature cooled, by early morning the bedrooms were comfortable. The refrigerator had no ice maker or even ice trays. An obvious inconvenience. For the guys, the most serious problem was the TV. We had planned to watch a number of NCAA football games. Both bedrooms have TVs but we did not use them. All TVs have DVD players (but not Blu-Ray). The living room has an LG flat screen TV of about 40 inches. The TV was older but fine; the cable service is just awful. There was no High Definition (720 or 1080p) service at all. And many people do not realize that Standard Definition (480p) TV looks worse on an HDTV than on an old CRT TV. There were no instructions on what the channel lineup was or how to find it (we eventually did). The TV and the Infinity cable box remotes were odd, old and difficult to figure out. All in all a very old school, unsatisfying experience. The last time I had this problem was in 2007 in Hawaii. Never thought I'd see it again. If you do not plan on watching TV, disregard this part. Overall I'd give our five day experience a C+ rating. Fix the TV, Ice and A/C issues and it would be close to an A.
