The food was marginal and the service was even worse. The young man who waited on us was more interested in talking to his friends and co-workers than actually doing his job. It took forever to get our order taken and to get our ticket at the end. We didn't get any drink refills without asking. It's an ok location and the place was kinda clean. Didn't seem really dirty but wasn't pristine. I don't see ever eating here again when I'm in town. read more

Great place! I love Mole sauce, and this place has probably one of the top 3 Mole's in Missouri, in my opinion. Super dark and complex, I found myself eating it on chips and tortillas long after the chicken was gone. Beans and rice were great too, and friendly service. Would definitely recommend! read more

Impressive place, nestled into the corner of a historic factory building. I like owners who find new uses for old landmarks. There's separate bar and restaurant sections--lots of space. Attentive service too. We found the food tasty, with generous servings from the plate dinners to the margaritas. Thumbs up to the huevos con chorizo and the polo loco. Nicely done chips with slightly spicy salsa. With the historic setting, friendly service, generous servings and very reasonable prices--what more could you want in a small town Mexican place. My wife and I were there some months ago, and we weren't impressed. Time had passed. We'd heard Casa Sol had a supper buffet on weekends, so we thought we'd try it. To our pleasant surprise, it was good! She had huckleberry tea, and I had a large "top shelf" margarita - both drinks were weaker than we prefer - but the food was pretty good. Limited selections available on the buffet, but the flavors of what we tried were good. Hours after limited, but there is a buffet for both lunch and supper. Food is always good and great service. Most authentic Mexican food in the area. The owner is very friendly and still has family in Mexico.

I love mole and they have the most authentic rich mole I have found to date. This is not just mole poured out of a jar. Everything was fresh. We love the chips and salsa here...the chips come out warm, they're so light and crispy and the salsa has just the right amount of spice. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant is full of Mexican decor, they play Mexican music overhead. There is a bar separate from the restaurant as well. It's family owned and operated, and family friendly. read more

The place is a little hard to find. Coming down A street, it is located in a warehouse type building with the entrance on one end. At first I was disappointed after reading the reviews as the salsa was very disappointing. Very tomato-y and not a lot of of chunky-ness. I eventually got into it and it had a good kick. The chips very thin, fresh and crispy. But this was heading towards 1-2 stars on the salsa alone. I ordered the regular fajita with the meat combo. I usually like meat combos to get to sample all. In this case the combo included chicken, steak and shrimp. It was not a huge portion, but was fantastic. The chicken and steak seemed fresh slices and grilled just for this serving. The shrimp was good as well. The fajitas made this a place to come back to and saved this review. The service was just ok, but not really any issues, either. read more

I brought the wife here the other day for dinner we walked in and didn't see any maitre d our Hostess we stood there for a couple minutes waiting for someone. When no one showed up we decided to seat ourselves. We were sitting there for a good 5 or 7 minutes before two people walked out looked at us and then walked over to the door and seated this other couple that had just walked in they went and got the menus and proceeded to take the order. They walked by my me and my wife a couple times and just gave us dirty looks and never brought us a menu so after 10 minutes of sitting there we decided to leave. Very disappointing....missed all of the basics that a Mexican restaurant should provide. Poor service....holy cow, when I asked if they had draft beer, I was told yes....when I asked for something local the response was "you mean like a bud light"? Turns out, there is no draft beer and nothing locally brewed. Chips were cold, out of a bag (actually various brands....thin chips, thick chips, multicolor chips), The salsa (and I will swear to this) was Campbell Tomato soup mixed with canned picante sauce....awful is the only way to describe it. We had to ask to get our soft drinks refilled...Actually when I asked to have mine filled, she left my friends 3/4 empty drink on the table. I guess that each patron has to physically ask to get that refill??? When the food showed up....it looked awesome. I ordered the Carne Azada (which the waitress announced was "a really weird name for steak!" when I ordered). The presentation was nice and the food appeared well cooked....unfortunately, the food had absolutely no seasoning, it was bland and no amount of table salt could fix the issue.....sad. I ordered tacos pastor and was disappointed that the pork was cooked in some sort of sauce that completely hid the flavor of the pork. There were the usual cilantro and onions, but no lime. The tacos came with a spoonful of guacamole (which was a new one to me) but it was tasty. My sister had cheese enchiladas, which I sampled. It was most surprising to me to find they were made with flour tortillas. The sauce was sparse and not very flavorful. Overall, the enchiladas were disappointing. Casa Sol is a very good place to get some authentic Mexican food. I have not had a dish that I did not like. I usually get a combination plate or the fajitas. The margaritas are very good and they have a variety of tequilas in the cantina. The service has been good for the most part and the food comes out quickly. They weren't even half full on cinco de mayo so there should be no reason everyone around us got service but we did not. I've always had decent enough guys food here, but 3 people at our table ordered tacos al pastor. They instead received plain pork tacos and were told that they wouldn't fix it because they didn't specify al pastor. I heard them all say al pastor as did 3 other people. My tamales were fine, but this is absurd. I've never been treated this way in a restaurant and will never come here again. Update: The back of house staff is now attempting to audibly blame the new waitress and make her pay for it (while still not giving us what we ordered)...again, won't be coming here again. We got there early at about 2:30 so there wasn't many people in eating yet. My wife and I are biking across the US so the locals said this was a good place to eat. My wife had a burrito and I had a chimichanga both with chicken. And it wasn't the shredded chicken it was chunks of whole chicken! The service was great and chips were light and fluffy.
