Super frustrated that the gift card I received which says market on it would not allow me to purchase from the market came on a Sunday where you can only get carnitas with super excited until I went to pay. It's a gift card to casa Lupe so they're still getting their money makes me very angry Will not come back ever! read more

One of my favorites. I recommend the restaurant in the market over the stand alone restaurant. They are attached. Just go into the back of the market, you won't be sorry. You're welcome in advance. read more

Meat is good has hardly any fat on it ordering process how ever is kinda eh felt kind of rushed out of the line didn't Evan have time to ask for a spoon got handed my food than pushed away for the next but besides that part my order tasted good not to many complaints read more

Horrible service and was ok but not worth the price... I use to love this restaurant but after the service we received yesterday we won't be going back read more

Stopped in to check out the store and ended up having a couple tacos. Nice store and good tacos. Would've gave 5 stars but the horchata was a little too sweet. read more

The service is great and the people are friendly. Ordered the chicken chimichanga and for the appetizer we ordered the been dip. Bean dip is amazing! Very family oriented. read more

One of my favorite place for tacos and nachos. Perfect every time. it's an authentic Mexican restaurant and they always stack up my food with plenty of toppings. The meats are well seasoned, I've had every kind of dish from this place and it never ceases to please. read more

I wouldn't know a thing about Gridley, CA if my father didn't decide that it would be a good idea to live in the allergy-infested no man's land. Despite the bleak, dirty landscape and the chickens that peck along Highway 99, there is the gem of Casa Lupe. I will visit about once a month and we eat here without fail. They grow all their food fresh and you will always have the freshest vegetables. This isn't your typical burrito joint. The chicken is soft and tender and in big chunks with an array of fresh peppers and celery. These are cooked to be very soft and tasty. Naturally the portions are large and the menu selection is huge, but it's definitely worth it. There is also a full bar to take advantage of and let me tell you - when someone walks to the back of the building to cut mint for your mojito, you know it's going to be good. So if you're ever on your way up towards Chico, I would save some room for this place. read more

I specificaly drive up Hwy 99 to Chico just to stop here for taquitos and salsa. Oh my goodness that salsa!! Yu-hum!! Full of fresh tomatoes, celery, bell peppers, cucumbers, onions, jalepenos and LOTS O FLAVOR! Stopped there last night as a matter of fact, on my way back to Sac. Food eaten (by me and 2 pals): Carne Asada burrito- freakin bomb was the meat!! Chicken taquitos-crunchy shell, juicy white meat chicken Shredded Beef tamale/Cheese enchilada combo- Sauce was tasty (but not like Pancho's in Sac), cheesy goodness of mixed cheeses in the lada, and masa outer encasing the zesty beef was the perfect mixture of sturdy and moist, hard to get! (most tameales are dry). Do it!!! Stop by on your way up 99. Or just take a drive, and get outta Sactown for the day. Eat Mexican, stop by the Penny Candy 5 miles away in Live Oak. ;) The one thing I do want to mention.... the hostesses here think they are at a big city club or New York or something. Girls- You are in G-R-I-D-L-E-Y. Get over it. you look like morons compared to the way the servers are dressed, in more traditional Mexican Restaurant serving attire. I got a good laugh when I walked in, walked out to check the sign and came back. read more

Here's a hint: When you sit down in a Mexican resturant in a town and area with a huge hispanic population, and all you see are white people.... maybe it isn't going to be the best Mexican Food you've ever tasted. If you're looking for "authentic" then your time would be better spent looking for a taqueria (there's a million of them around here). However, if you're looking for a great margarita, then this IS your place. Infact, I only come here for margaritas before I walk over to the county fair. I suggest you try it. If I were to review the grocery store on its own, I would give them more than just the two stars. As far as a mexican grocery store is concerned, its got the best selection in the area. If you can find one that's better, please let me know about it. Prices are fair and comparable to any other grocery store, but if you're looking for a very specific Mexican brand or product, then this is the place to look! They've got a bakery filled with various mexican breads, a butcher, and a deli counter in the back where you can order hot food to eat. Its much more authentic tasting than thier resturant counterpart. Oh and they do Carnitas (only to go) on Saturday and Sunday. read more

I love Casa Lupe! I grew up in Gridley (stop laughing) and this was the only restaurant we ever went to with any frequency. The food is great, it's cheap and their salsa is the best! Every time I go "home" this is a required stop on the visit :) read more

Not super authentic Mexican food, but you've got a ton of other places to chose from around here. You come here for the delicious fruit-flavored margaritas or the champagne brunch on weekends. The margarita selection is awesome : papaya, raspberry, coconut... you can't get that many places. The food is ok, pretty white-washed. On Saturday and Sunday morning, each order over 8.99 comes with three free mimosas! read more

The deli inside the Casa Lupe Market is truly a hidden gem. I've had burritos all up and down California and this place still has the best, hands down! They are very consistent too. Everything is made to order right in front of you. Highly highly recommended for anyone who enjoys authentic Mexican food. Oh, and it's cheap. You can get a huge, loaded burrito for less that $6. read more

We are on a weekend family work trip and have had a few bumps and blocks along the way. We chose Casa Lupe out of the multiple options in Gridley, CA. First stop upon entering the restaurant was entering the restroom and I'm pleased to say that they are clean and well maintained. Our host placed our group of 4 in a tiny booth. We were elbow to elbow and we are normal sized people. So we requested a table change and were accommodated without hesitation by our excellent server, Janet. Guacamole appetizer was a great decision and Janet re-upped our chip basket whenever we were close to running out. We each enjoyed different dishes; authentic chile verde and satisfying steak tacos. Really though, order any dish with their rice and beans and you will be pleased. Our evening really picked up as we exited the restaurant, seeing a small kitten beneath our car jump up into our undercarriage. We didn't feel right about beginning our 8 hour drive without removing the cat. So we used Casa Lupe's water hose to flush the kitten out. To our avail, flush out was unsuccessful. Casa Lupe's Sales Manager, Lauro Del Rio came to our aid. Bringing cat knowledge and a sheet of cardboard to keep our clothes clean from the parking lot. Eventually, we captured the ferrel kitten! We're naming her Lupe! Thank you to the team at Casa Lupe for their excellent service and willingness to respond to an unexpected consumer need. read more

Casa Lupe - Lupe the ferrel cat! - Mexican Near Me - Gridley, California

This is not good Mexican food, but then again I spent 4 years in San Diego which has the best Mexican food in the state. CL's beans and rice are ok but very inconsistent. The main part of my meal is always awful. Today I went with a quesadilla thinking there was no way to mess it up. WELL....believe it or not they messed it up. The tortilla was heated up in a microwave by itself, cold cheese was thrown on it then they folded it over. The cheese wasn't even melted! SO WRONG!! read more

It is your standard Mexican grocery store. With one exception- the best store bought salsa ever! I swear they must put crack in the stuff. I have been eating Casa Lupe salsa since I was a baby. Buy some of their house fried tortilla chips to go with it and you won't be upset. The salsa tastes like nothing else I have ever tried. It is no pico de gallo. Filled with tomatoes, onions, celery, and a kitchen full of spices, it takes getting used to. But once you like it, you love it. I want to note I do buy tacos and carnitas from the deli in the back sometimes. They are fresh and tasty, but nothing unique. And I have never been to the restaurant either. I really am just reviewing the place based on the salsa. read more

Atmosphere not great however the chicken tostada was over the top with the most chicken chunks (delicious) I've ever had in tostadas twice this size. The salsa was good, the chips fresh and not greasy. The chili rellonos were ok although could have used a bit more flavor. Since we live in Chico where there are many great Mexican restaurants Casa Lupe restaurant in Gridley won't be our go to restaurant but for a small town it's pretty good. Busboy super service, waitress good service. read more

Bland. Bland. Bland. We shared the sizzling fajita platter. It gets full stars for the sizzle. Beyond that everything was flavorless. The steak didn't have flavor. The refried beans were bland. The rice was bland. Why bother? Actually the blended lime margarita was good. So stop in for a margarita but get eat somewhere else. I guess they cator to white folks. You know Latinos aren't eating here. Their market is great. It has a huge variety of foods you won't find in a standard grocery store. Cow's lips anyone? Maybe the little deli in there has great food. The restaurant is pointless. read more

We normally have a great experience here. Tonight was not so good. There was eight of us and we were put in the banquet room. We got TERRIBLE service. We did not get our order taken we could not get refills on drinks. We could not get refills on chips and salsa. We had to ask for hot sauce several times. The server walked by several times and did not even look our way. At the end the server mixed up the checks. Thank God the food was good. They need to add more staff on Friday nights. read more

This place was pretty good; the food and services. The salsa was basically cut up veggies and it was flavorless. I ask if they had different salsa and they brought out 2 more kinds, and they were delicious. The service was adequate and the wait time a bit long even for lunch. It was just average Mexican food. I would probably return next time I am in the area... but I do not think that this place lives up to the hype. read more

I have been wanting to stop by here for almost four years. I finally went and was not impressed. We ordered mango margaritas and got regular. My daughter ordered a soft taco and got crunchy. The staff was friendly. The chili Relleno I ordered was not good at all. It was not stuffed with very much cheese and the sauce was full of chucks of bell peppers, celery, and tomatoes. The enchilada was good and stuffed with chicken. My taco was cracked on the bottom. After finally making it to eat here, the trip all in all was not worth it. read more

I've been going here for 50 years! Great food, great atmosphere and fabulous family owned business. The banquet room in the back is so roomy. You won't be disappointed if you eat here! read more

You could eat it. It's not bad food. It's wholesome enough and fresh. But compared to what it used to be it's not particularly good. Lackluster execution, and every shortcut imaginable right on down to the chili powder in the salsa. I'm done here. read more

Casa Lupe is one of my favourite places to stop between Chico and Davis (where I do a lot of driving in between for my job). I can't review too much about the place as a supermarket, since I don't do everyday shopping there like some people in the community might, but they carry a lot of mexican products like Tamarin candy, horchata, and a variety of mexican-brand products. When I go, I usually stop for some pan dulce (sweet bread) in their bakery section. The best ones are the guava rolls and the guava coconut bun. Highly recommend it... and they are only 40 cents each! I have also gotten a chicken quesadilla here on one occasion when I was really hungry, and really enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable, although I would have hoped that it might be cheaper than the regular mexican food place... but it's not. They have a large selection of food to choose from, although they get busy during lunch time, and you can expect to wait 20minutes from ordering your food to getting and paying for it. Very tasty though, and would recommend this over any other place in Gridley. read more

Beware! I found a metal staple in my chicken fajitas only after I bit into them, the sanitary conditions are questionable at best. I won't be going back, I like staying out of the hospital. read more

Been here twice and the food is always good. The Chicken Fajita Burrito lunch plate is made with the best chunky chicken pieces and the of course the usual side dishes of beans and rice. This time I had the taco, enchilada dish with shredded beef and was filling too but it seems their meals have shrunk a little as they don't have the same amount of food on the plate as usual. Still, overall a good deal though it is a bit of a drive from my location. read more

I have some family that lives in this area, so I've been coming up Casa Lupe locations like this one, for many years! I might be mistaken, but the chips aren't as good as they used to be. Also, some of the dishes have become somewhat "americanized" over the last few years - but, otherwise good portions, for not being expensive. Service is usually pressed for time, so request pitchers of your drinks. read more

OK, maybe it's not precisely "authentic" Mexican food, but it is delicious!!! I grew up on this restaurant. I have not found a Mexican food restaurant that tops it. The food is very consistent. I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered here. The service is always quick, and the staff is great. There is a bar area where you can sit and watch sporting events. I don't drink, but I hear the bar is very good. The restaurant is not a taqueria atmosphere. It is a sit down restaurant, and a family friendly restaurant. There is a large room in the back for groups. They also CATER. My aunt had her baby shower catered by Casa Lupe and everyone there loved it! read more

I was so disappointed in out food!!! My friend ordered a super burrito. Sounds delicious.... Well is was horrible! First of all he had chunks of something that we think is wood in his burrito.... So gross! We all ordered chicken and we were all expecting shredded. Nope we all just God huge chunks of bland chicken with zero seasoning. So for his super burrito she had to pick out the wood chucks and shred his own chicken and on top of it season it him self.... I order a tostada that consisted of a chunk of chicken with some lettuce and two slices of tomato.... The salsa was the worst thing I have ever tasted in my life! Let's just say we chalked this up to a learning experience.... 4 stars on Yelp doesn't mean anything in real life.... read more

It's not good. But, if you don't know any better and don't want to drive....and don't mind their dangerous parking lot...it isn't bad

Good food its a little dated bit classic mexican dishes. Bars nice but small. The market is excellent and I get my fav burrito there.

OK people I LOVE the salsa here. Chunks of goodness. I drove from Nice, CA. to Yuba City on my way home to Huntington Beach just for the salsa, and the chile verde burrito didn't hurt either. They used to be in Chico, Williams, and Hamilton City now they are only in Yuba City. I and tons of other people got hooked on the salsa and food and have to get it in once and a while even if it mean to drive off the beaten path. Try the salsa cause your gonna wanna bring some home :) Casa Lupe and La Comida are my favorites. read more

I would drive from Chico just to get my hands on their nachos. They use actual carne asada, not the meat other restaurants try to pass off for carne asada. I do wish they would add bigger scoops of beans and rice but for the price you get much more than you would anywhere in Chico Worth the drive & love the food!!! read more

I've been eating at Casa Lupe for over 50 years; the Del a Torre family is a leader in Mexican cuisine - not to be missed if you are in the area. Portions are generous, delicious & affordable for any budget. Their staff is always friendly, attentive & if you eat here as often as we do - you'll appreciate their consistency in quality! read more

Casa Lupes is kinda a family tradition. Grandma (God rest her soul) always brought us here. It was good Mexican food that I enjoyed. The last visit was horrible. The waiter (not server) but waiter was just that we waited. He must have had family there because he spent most of his time between 2 other tables. Could not get our drinks, could not get our oder taken, did not follow up. I asked for ketchup he says no problem then waunders aimlessly around and has to be reminded to get the ketchup. Sure the food is real good but what a jerk of a waiter. read more
