Once again this restaurant doesn't not send out orders correctly. Today I ordered a cheese enchilada with all rice on the side. Got all the way home and it was a chicken enchilada with rice and beans. The lid said the correct order but the plate was incorrect. I wish I could say this is the first time this has happened but it happens so frequently I have lost count. read more

If you order a taqueria burrito which is 13.99 and it says your choice of meat they charge another 3.59 for asada and it says no where on the menu about it. For a soda and burrito it was 22.99. If you're going to Charge extra for meat it should be posted on the menu or at least told. read more

Casa Lupe in Gridley is not the Casa Lupe in Yuba City. The food quality differs significantly, especially when it comes to the chicken taco alacarte I ordered today at the Gridley location which fell far short of expectations. One bite was all I could manage of this meal. The chicken was the toughest piece of meat I've ever encountered, forcing me to chew endlessly before finally spitting it out. In all my years dining out, I've never had to spit out food at a restaurant--until now. That single bite ended my meal. To add insult to injury, I requested a partial refund since I only consumed the diet cola. The restaurant refused, offering no compromise. The absurdity of it all would be laughable if it weren't so infuriating. I won't be returning to Casa Lupe in Gridley. read more

Overpriced food for the quality, quantity, snd service. I really wanted to like this place, especially since we love Mexican food. They were able to seat us immediately and the server was really helpful and available at first. When I saw the menu, I was shocked that 2 fish tacos cost $17+ dollars! Instead , I ordered chicken nachos and the street tacos as an appetizer. The chicken was dry, the tacos weren't that flavorful. One of the WORST places for Mexican food in the area. Bland, cold, flavorless, high priced food. Their tostada shell smelled and tasted old and stale. Fajita is not what it used to be, small plate that lacked flavor and heat(taste and temperature). Go to the taco truck nearby for an authentic Mexican taste. read more

We went to the restaurant on a Sunday. Sunday specials include Menudo and Carnitas. I ordered a fajita lunch. The beans and rice were very flavorful. The fajita meat was tasty. My companion ordered a combo lunch with a margarita. That drink has a kick; I almost ordered my own. All in all, the waiter was nice, the noise level was acceptable, the bathroom was clean and the food was great. We'll drive to Gridley the next time we want a sit down Mexican meal. Came here on a Sunday for brunch to celebrate my mother in law. Positives: They take reservations and have plenty of space for large groups. They have a large parking lot behind the restaurant with shade. Large menu with weekend brunch options like menudo and carnitas as well as coffee, hot cakes, & a full bar. Free chips upon arrival. Servers were nice and they turned off the ceiling fans when I told them I was freezing inside. And, they brought out a slice of cheesecake and sang happy birthday! Not so positives: the staff didn't clear any plates when we were done. We stayed a while to talk and that was annoying to have empty plates. They also didn't offer to bring to go boxes and only came to check on us when we asked for something. The food is average. Nothing special but good enough. I ordered the chilaquiles and they didn't have cotija cheese! Just plain. They do make their own flour tortillas and give large portions but not the best Mexican food. read more

We stopped in for lunch, and first of all, my husband ordered tea. He asked for sugar. They brought 4 packs, and he likes his tea sweet! They waitress went to the manager her came over and explained his job is to keep costs down and that people waste a lot and that he thought my husband was exaggerating about how much sugar he liked. How disrespectful!! Then, the waitress expected us to know about things that are not listed on the menu. My food was cold, and the beans were salty. Not a lot for the price. Totally bad experience. Best tortillas around. Their homemade warm tortillas are seriously so delicious. Other than that the rest of the food is always good too and the service is always excellent. They do currently have a limited menu because of covid but everything we had was delicious and we will be back for sure. read more

Great Salsa. Impeccable Ranchero Sauce. Lukewarm Service. I've always enjoyed Casa Lupe restaurants. In my opinion, their use of celery in traditional Mexican dishes is something other places should do more often. The celery in salsa is great, and it goes on from there. At our visit today, the service here just seemed 'off'. It wasn't quite unfriendly, but they certainly didn't roll out red carpet, either. There weren't smiling faces. There wasn't friendly interactions. They were just 'there'...and that's it. The salsa is the star of Casa Lupe. As mentioned above, the use of celery in the salsa is something I love. It's not too hot, not too thick, just perfect. Chips were warm and great as well. The dish I ordered was the veggie fajitas, though I asked for just onions, bell peppers and broccoli. The fajita presentation sucks. They serve it on a plate...fajitas...on a plate. Crazy. The veggies were nicely cooked, but were bland. I ordered a side of Ranchero Sauce to flavor it up, and that worked well. Rice and beans were average. All in all, this place could use some attention to little things. Service, presentation and spices are what need attention at Casa Lupe. But I don't know if I can stay away and not enjoy that salsa. Hopefully they right the ship! read more

try the grocery store attached to the restaurant. the fresh meat department can customize you order for no additional cost. some of the meats are pre marinated for far less per lb than standard grocery store. on the weekends, follow the line to the back of the store and find fresh hot carnitas sold by the pound. get a couple pounds. grab a container of fresh salsa as you go through produce. in front of the deli near dried beans are unmarked white ice chests filled with fresh pressed (still hot) tortillas sold per 2 dozen. makes a delish lunch /picnic for very reasonable. feeds many and all will think you are have a foodie connection. . read more

After reading the good reviews here on Yelp, my DH and I decided to try it out while we were in the area. Ambiance - I was expecting more of a taqueria kind of vibe, but this is actually a "real" sit-down restaurant. There are a couple of distinct seating areas and the place is good-sized inside. Service - Chips and house-made salsa fresca were brought out right away and our drink orders were taken too. Our server came back quickly to take our dinner order too. The food came out quickly and the orders were correct. I thought the service was really good. Food - The beans were tasty and the rice was very fluffy, but not that flavorful. I prefer a little more tomato flavor in the Mexican rice than what is served here. I ordered a ground beef red enchilada and a pork tamale. I enjoyed the enchilada - the ground beef filling was not greasy and had little bits of onion and good spices. The red sauce was sort of mild and on the tomato-y side, which I like. The tamale was just OK - not a lot of pork filling and the masa was pretty dense. It had the same red sauce as the enchilada on it. Overall, I thought the food was above average, but not spectacular. My DH had his usual bean and cheese burrito which he said was really good. He always orders the same thing and has high standards, so I take this as a good sign. Bonus - There is a large Mexican market next door that has a small bakery section, fresh meat section and burrito bar. There are many Mexican products, such as spices, candies, cookies, cleaning and beauty supplies. I was so excited when I found that they carried "Super Natilas", my favorite Mexican candy! Recommendation - This place is worth checking out! I will be back again, I'm sure. It's about an hour south of Chico, so I'll go again sometime while I am around Gridley, not as a special trip.
