Just to show you the size of this beautiful arepa

I go to the cigar lounge in the same center and whenever I walk by Casa Juana the place is hopping, so I've been wanting to try for awhile. The room is painted in bright colors and though a bit sparse actually felt cozy. This night was kinda quiet so the server was able to take time and help me. I'd not had arepas before so she took time explaining and made some suggestions. I had the combo beef & chicken which went together way better than I thought and some of the other add-on's were bacon (perfect chunks of bliss) avocado and there was a bit of pineapple in a sauce that she recommended which I thought I wouldn't like but was a perfect suggestion. I'd never even seen an arepa before so when she brought this beautiful monstrosity I was like "uh ok let's go" and it was so delicious! The cool extra part of this post is the "server" was actually Juana the owner and she is so cool and so passionate about the food and her story is awesome. You gotta meet her. And you must try this place - - you'll love it.

This spot is one of the first -if not the first-arepa places to open in SJ. I originally tried it out of curiosity, and since then it's low key become my go to whenever I'm in the mood for something different. Colombian street food is fire!! Portions are solid, the drinks are on point, and there's a wide variety to choose from. If it's your first time, I'd definitely suggest going with their recommendations, some menu items can be on the heavier side. Totally recommended for a chill night in with some good food and a movie! Lol

You Guava be Kidding Me…read more A bakery and juicery that has been serving up delicious Colombian specialties since 1999 in Colombia, before emigrating to the US and opening up shop here in Cambrian Park in 2014. Milohas (mil hojas) means a thousand layers in Spanish, and one taste of Milohas' pastries will make you understand why they picked that moniker. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Friendly service * Covered outdoor dining * The crust of the empanadas was buttery, flaky, and delicious. All the fillings were good, but you have to try the Hawaiian filling! It was truly fantastic and had us wishing that's all we'd ordered. * Guava Finger has the same perfect crust and tasty guava jam--I could eat a dozen of these and come back for more. *oink oink* * Carissa really enjoyed their lentil soup. I didn't try it, so I can't comment. The Meh: * I kind of prefer the chunks of meat in Peruvian empanadas to the ground meat in Colombian ones, but that's just a personal preference. It was still delicious, so at the end of the day, it's all academic. The Ugly: * No indoor dining, and outdoor dining is limited to only a handful of seats. Conclusion: We've been on the hunt for the best empanadas in the South Bay, and we finally found them.

Finally tried Milohas as they've been on my list for a while and have a lot of great reviews. Oh…read moreman, was I disappointed. Ordered two empanadas: Spinach & Cheese and a Chicken & Potato. I wanted to get some desert items but they seemed to have very few things to choose from. I would have asked questions but inside the store was strangely loud and the woman who helped me was a low talker so I couldn't understand anything she was saying to me as it was. The empanadas are pretty large, as are the prices. $17 for the two. At this price point I was glad I decided not to buy more. Each comes with a tiny side of aji green sauce. They could have been more generous here. I found the spinach to be very salty and more breading than filling. The chicken one was a letdown. Chicken was lacking any flavor. For both the pastry was dry. Was only able to eat half of each and threw the rest away. Not really the kind of place you dine in for. You order at the counter and there is limited seating inside (in a way that makes you not want to dine in), and a few seats outside. Plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. This visit and subsequent review makes me feel sad. I want to support these unique, independent eateries but they make it difficult when the quality doesn't meet the high cost. Improvements would be to reevaluate their recipes, make the pastries less dry and dense, and maybe don't be so skimpy on the fillings.

Its in a nice area and the plaza its in is pretty empty so parking is super easy. When you walk in theres a hostess stand and you need to wait so you can be seated. Its a cute restaurant. Has a large TV. Super casual. The server my husband and I had was super nice. We ordered: -Blackberry juice -Colombiana -Pacfico -Morcilla con papas -1 beef empanada -1 chicken empanada -Bandeja paisa The food and drinks all came out in like 5min. Super quick! The empanadas were really good, well seasoned. Morcilla was delicious! The potatos are not seasoned but you can salt them yourself. They come with 2 sauces one thats guacamole and the other was tapatio based, which was disappointing because it should come with aji. The bandeja paisa was okay. The only thing I didnt like about it was the ground beef. I will be back to try other dishes.

Came here on a weeknight and in the middle of our meal they set up speakers and there was a comedy show in Spanish. Just not what we were expecting as we were looking for a place to eat where we could have a conversation. The food had nice flavors, but the quality of the meat was hit or miss. One plate had nice tender beef while the other one was very tough.

The service provided by María José was truly exceptional from start to finish; gracious, attentive, and genuinely human in a way that lingers long after you leave. The atmosphere wrapped around you effortlessly; a cozy, inviting space where every detail feels intentional, guiding you back to your roots. The café con leche... simply perfect; like it was made by your grandmother, rich with comfort and memory. The agua de panela, beautifully balanced, set the tone with its subtle sweetness. Then came the highlight: a sizzling churrasco, aromatic and full of flavor, served with perfectly cooked rice and golden sweet plantains that taste like home. To finish, a selection of traditional cookies from the shop; the classic puntico Rojo; adding the perfect touch of sweetness and nostalgia. What a blessing it was to return to La Bendición. It does have full table service, which I really liked. Our server was very nice and helped us select our meal. We had beef ribs and pork ribs which were very good. The plantaines, white rice (exceptionally good), salad with avocado, and sauces. We finished our meal with in house fresh bakery items, which were really outstanding (See Pictures). Overall, the meal we ordered was pretty good, except for the plantains, which were hard, dry, and inedible (possibly not fresh made-was kept under a heat lamp). This restaurant may not be suitable for families, as it is also a sports bar with big screen TV's, loud music and geared for adults. The price point was fairly high as compared to other restaurants I have visited. Our bill for 2 dinners, 2 soft drinks, 2 desserts was $95 before tip. The restaurant was well maintained and clean. If you're in the area, why not try it?
