A solid stop if you want a proper, structured cheese tasting while in Amsterdam. Located in a…read morehistoric canal house along the Singel, it's a nice alternative to the typical fast-paced cheese shops in Centrum. The guided tasting takes place downstairs in a small, classroom-style setting. You're given a score sheet, a small guillotine slicer, and a lineup of six cheeses--ranging from younger Wyngaard varieties to their heavily aged Reypenaer VSOP and XO Reserve (which has those nice, crunchy protein crystals). Each sample is paired with a wine or port and a bit of specialty mustard. The staff is knowledgeable and keeps things moving at a good pace, explaining how the natural aging process in their historic Woerden warehouse shapes the flavor. The shop upstairs carries all the cheeses from the tasting, along with slicers and accessories if you want to pick something up on your way out. It's an informative, well-organized hour that gives you a genuine appreciation for artisan Dutch cheese.

Explore everything here! We came to Dutch Delicacy on pure accident, as we were walking around and saw that they had a ton of different goudas for sale. In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. We were able to try so many different cheeses, which I found a few for home. I recommend for anyone visiting Amsterdam to make a stop here; there's a lot of items you'll want to take home with you.

There are cheese, shops everywhere, and they are all begging for you to step inside of their doors and enjoy a variety of locally made cheese. The Amsterdam cheese company is one of my favorite cheese shops. The staff is super helpful and they will go out of their way without being pushy, to help you with your cheese selection. Let me just put this out there right now... You will want all of the cheese. Every sample we had was delicious. If I could have purchased the entire shop, I absolutely would have. So instead of purchasing the entire shop I definitely purchased enough to keep us all happy for a while. The garlic cheese, the spicy cheese, the aged cheese,... The list goes on and on, and you will literally need to pull yourself out of the shop to go explore the rest of the area. But while you're in the shop, buy the cheese and enjoy the samples.

If you're a cheese lover like me then this store will be an absolute paradise…read more It took all I had in me not to roll those wheels back to our hotel. Honestly, the notorious Amsterdam staircases are what prevented that from taking place lol. Old Amsterdam makes some of the finest cheeses in the world today. They've been around a long time and are still extremely relevant in the dairy world. So much flavor and goodness in everything they produce. The store isn't large but they have a lot to offer. It's easy to move about inside. Employees are friendly. The samples flow freely.

You're going to see this exact same review 3x for all 3 shops as all 3 were equal in all areas…read more How much did we like it? Well enough to spend an additional 15min having our cheese swabbed in airport security. Yes, I took back an entire tote bag filled with a variety of cheeses (13 kinds) & yes, I took it as carry-on luggage. Yes, you CAN do that, though you may want to allow extra time for additional screening, as a bag full of cheese looks suspicious on the scanner. (Let them know ahead of time, so they flag it as odd contents and things go more smoothly) Tasting cheeses are readily available and you can taste literally EVERYTHING before you buy. Why then, with a bag filled with cheese do I give them 4 stars? Because it truly caters to tourists which resulted in higher pricing. Still, you buy KNOWING it can all fly back with you. For this particular shop, I highly recommend the vintage edition- the oldest cheese they sell- I bought 3 of them and already regret not getting more. While the brand is available stateside, that particular vintage is not.

You can spend some significant time sampling the cheese here before making your [very difficult] purchase decisions! In addition to cheese, Tromp also has an awesome bakery section of sweet pastries, breads and affordable made to order sandwiches. Skip the Albert Heijn To-Go section next door and satisfy that lunchtime craving here instead! The people who work here are really helpful and if you don't see what you're looking for? Just reach out - because sometimes you just prefer that someone else grates your pecorino romano and they're more than willing to help with that! Vacuum sealing your purchase is also an option for tourists who want to bring some cheese back home. My only minor complaint is that sometimes you really just want a small portion (100g or so) of a certain cheese but more often than not, you'll end up with much more than you asked for. But just shut up and eat the cheese, it's all good :)

This is in a touristy area and a nice store, recommended by my language class who used to hold classes across the street. Millions of cheese selections and a couple of friendly guys waiting on me. But difficult to read the chalkboard menu and felt too under pressure when ordering. My point is that other places here are less stressful - even for immigrants like me. Also, I felt little ability to separate from others here. People were up around and behind me.
