Being from Massachusetts, you'd think that I'd have tried Cabo Verdean cuisine before now, but…read moresadly, I had not. It took going to Lisbon to rectify that, but I'm glad I did. Tambarina is an excellent spot for this cuisine. It's small and homey, with enticing colors and music. Service was about what you'd expect in Portugal. No one was I there when I went in but it was getting busy as I was leaving. It's cash only but there is an ATM in front.
I wasn't starving, so I ordered a small portion of muamba, with white rice. I tried to order beans as well, but was told no. Not sure if they were out or if you just don't order beans with this dish, but I was sad because I'm bean obsessed. But I couldn't even finish the small portion I had, so I guess it worked out. Muamba is stewed chicken with okra. I didn't eat the okra but the chicken was delicious. It was saucy and flavorful. And the hot sauce on the side was fantastic.
This restaurant is in my favorite neighborhood, on my favorite street in Lisbon, so I'm excited to return. If you are looking for something different in Lisbon, I highly recommend Tambarina.
