One of the best - if not the best meal I had during my trip to Portugal. After a visit to nearby…read moreSintra our tour guide recommended a romantic seaside lunch to us, and this place did not disappoint. It's a very high end restaurant with incredible views of the water, serving fresh seafood dishes. Service was impeccable, our waiter was happy to answer questions we had about wine and the menu (and also took an entire photo shoot of us at the end to ensure we'd have it for the memories). I started off with the octopus salad which was light and refreshing, featuring crunchy bell peppers and a light dressing. For the main course I went with the baked fish which was melt in your mouth good, swimming in butter. Paired with green wine from Portugal, it reminded me of that quote about fish - "Fish, to taste right, must swim three times - in water, in butter, and in wine." Absolute perfection. A must visit if you're in the area.

We were seated, and it took forever for our serve to come back to get our drinks and appetizers order. After that 30 minutes for my husband's drink to arrive, mine came about 15 minutes after ordering, not together. Appetizers - tuna tartare and pimentos Padron. Tuna Tartare - chunky pieces of tuna with sweet mangoes and tiny pieces of celery and red onions that compliment it well. Pimentos Padron- a typical Iberian sauté peppers appetizer - could have used a little more flaky salt. For mains, we ordered the lobster risotto and seabass "a la nordata," which was a grilled seabass accompanied with Cilantro rice, sautéed veggies, and a citrusy sauce. Lobster risotto - a bit dry, not creamy as a risotto should be. Seabass "a la nordata" - seabass was flaky and well seasoned, and the veggies buttery with a nice bite still. For dessert, we ordered a flan to share, and I had a port. The flan had a nice consistency to it but a bit bland. The lemon sorbet that accompanied it was delicious! For the Port, I ordered a 2011 Vintage and was served a 2013. How do I know? The server brought it to the table! When I questioned it, she said that they ran out of 2011, but the 2013 is the same thing.... hmmm.... nope, it's not the same thing. I still agreed to it, but I would have liked to have been warned before the pour. Overall, I feel like Michelin steered me wrong this time. It wasn't a bad meal. I just had higher expectations for it. After over a week of delicious food at cheaper restaurants, I expected better service and better food here.

But I guess everyone got that memo too, because there were several people waiting ahead of us. So looking next door was Mariscaria. After looking over their menu we decided to eat there. Obviously a lot of seafood. Emenu though isnt as extensive as most places in America. Customer service is OK. I do love how tip/gratuity is not automatically included in the price of the meal here in Lisbon (take notes America). Took a long time for our food, even our appetizer, to come out. By then the wines were already room temp. But all was forgiven when the food came out. Im a firm believer that its better to do a few things really well, then to have a lot but do them mediocre. The food here was amazing!! So fresh. You can taste their natural flavors. We ordered their octopus salad. Nothing like what you see in America. Small amount of greens only. The octopus was the star as it should be. Not chewy. Flavored well. It was really good. Truly an appetizer. For entree we got their mixed seafood platter that serves 2. Its 65 euro, but the quality was amazing. And the portion was really good too. My wife left full and happy. There were several different seafoods on the plate. There was sea bass, tuna steak, squid, salmon and some fingerling potatoes. Added some lemon juice on them and they were amazing!! Each cooked to perfection. Flavors were all different. Textures. Cooking methods. All different. All very good!! Potatoes were the perfect starch to go with it. We had their vinho verde (a thing in Lisbon, never heard of it before), which wasent actually green. Had a subtle green tinge to it. But it was just dry. Not very good. I also had their red sangria. It was really good. Sweet. Fruity. They wvwn left the fruit in there for me to eat. After a liter pitcher of that, I was feeling good!! Ambiance hwre is beautiful. Nice shade covering to protect you from the sun. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating. Smoking in restaurants is something new to me. Its disgusting to me, in my personal opinion, but its not the restaurants fault. Overall though. The food was really good. Simple yet complex. Beautifully balanced. Tasted amazing. Took a little of time for the food to come out, but this place is worth the wait.

We were seated at a table where the umbrella didn't do a very good job of shading us. We said something to our server who said she couldn't do anything about it. We moved an umbrella from the unoccupied table next to us, but we couldn't maneuver it well. I only mention this since they wouldn't move us and there were plenty of open, shadier tables. Their selection of fresh fish was very good, but prices were a bit higher than we expected. We received the traditional hard cheese, bread, and olives as an appetizer (which you pay for in Portugal). Then, my wife ordered vegetable soup, and I tried the shrimp rice. The rice had plenty of smaller shrimp in it. The rice was very soupy and didn't have much flavor. The shrimps were good. And I was told the vegetable soup was also a bit bland but did taste good. Although we were both full, we ordered their chocolate mousse cake for desert. It's served with strawberry ice cream and was the highlight of our meal. In retrospect, I should have ordered the fresh cod. If you do want to try it, the views are magnificent and are not to be missed.

Our group ate at this small restaurant called RESTAURANTE O CRÔA. Our tour guide had called ahead so we'd have a table and they had our orders. The waitress was super nice and the place welts cool-with an amazing view of the beach. We started with a complimentary Muscato (a sweet wine and then I ordered a Super Bock beer and Wifey had a glass of their house green wine. For our main meals Wifey went for the Beef Tenderloin with a fried egg and fries-the fried egg with beef is very common here in Portugal and the French fries are served everywhere. I chose the black pork skewer (also came with fries) and can't possibly explain how good it was. The black pork (it's not black, but comes from black pigs) was so tender and flavorful that I practically licked the plate.
