It's my birthday and my kid took me to Raising Canes for dinner. Not gonna lie, it was a bit of a…read morelet down but I got to pick dessert. And what better place than the shop I used to go to back in the 90's. Now I've never been to the woodlands location before. It's in that waterway district near the mall and so parking was sure to be a B. But this being thanksgiving week it actually wasn't half bad. The shop is smaller than the Richmond location. But that's just more goodness compressed into a TLP. There are no birthday specials alas. But they did have some free samples of tiramisu. It was good but I had to get my favorites. J's birthday cake and the Big O. The birthday cake is thicker like brownie than some of the other chocolate cakes. I can't describe the frosting this go around because my punk kid at all the frosting off it while my attention was focused on the Big O. But the cake part was moist. As for the Big O it was Ooooohhh. No When Harry Met Sally diner scene experience. But it was F'n awesome. Staff was super helpful and nice. Wanted to eat more but my blood sugar wouldn't tolerate it.

I shared with the person behind the counter that there is a nut allergy in our family and she was helpful in telling us what to avoid. Tip-- they did share that they don't regularly disclose if something that nuts (peanuts or tree nuts) so if you have an allergy, make sure you tell them so they can help! There were a small set of tables to sit inside and enjoy your treats if you wanted to. We got a variety of things to share, tres leches (this is okay, a little sweet and pretty standard), tiramisu, pecan pie bar (delicious but crumbly/messy to eat), Oreo truffles and confetti truffles (my nieces and nephew absolutely loved these)! It was pretty pricey, but always happy to support local businesses!

I'll definitely have to come back and try more of the food and pies at House of Pies! Overall, it…read morewasn't a bad spot for a quick meal. I really enjoyed the appetizers, and there were definitely some highlights. The mac and cheese recipe could use a little improvement though, as the flavor and texture didn't feel quite right to me. I also tried the pecan pie warmed, but I think I'd probably enjoy it more cold next time. The biggest downside during my visit was the service, which was pretty slow. Hopefully that's something that improves because I'd still be interested in coming back to try more items on the menu.

Our waitress was very nice, but probably new to waiting tables. Service was slow and unorganized, taking over 40 minutes before our soup and salad arrived. My girlfriends salad was just a bed of lettuce. Lettuce only. When she asked if she could get tomato or onion or cucumber on the salad she was told it would be an extra charge. That's ridiculous! We are talking about the core ingredients of a basic salad. I checked and google agrees. My cheddar broccoli soup was watered down and tasted strange. I had high hopes for the chicken pot pie when I ordered it but decided after tasting the soup that would be doubtful. Heads up, they charge 1.25 now for soda refills too. Look I understand that prices have increased everywhere but if you're cutting corners on salad this way , I think I understand why the soup was aweful too. I sure hope management agrees that tomatoes and cucumber belong on all salads, and restores the quality back to what made us all love House of Pies

Our savory fan favorites are the kids chicken Alfredo (hold the mushrooms), Philly cheesesteak, the steakhouse, & the aforementioned dessert. Each crepe (minus dessert) comes with a side salad; which makes for a hefty serving that allows each plate to be shared easily. Freebie nights (sometimes not even requiring a purchase) can be overly crowded. So opt for Wednesday if you have littles each adult entree allows a free kids meal. They have some really pretty fancy drink options from various mimosas and roses to lattes (hot/cold). I have the iced Lavender Dreams Matcha Latte a try on one visit and it was a dessert in a glass. Both indoor/outdoor seating available (get it to go and find you a seat on the green). There is plenty of parking in all directions. Enjoy.
