***GLUTEN FREE REVIEW*** On my Gluten Free journey to find new places to enjoy, I came across suggestions for Casa Cosenza. I read that the Chef is the wife/owner and the husband/owner runs front of house. I read they offered GF bread, pasta and other options. We went in right after they opened for the evening at 5:30pm. There was a couple at the bar and 5 gentlemen at a table. The ambiance and decor is nice and comfortable. There's a full bar. As we sat a young man brought water and menus right away, then brought a bread plate. I asked if he could bring GF bread. He returned and let me know there was none available. Not a big deal. The owner greeted us and I asked about the menu. On Yelp a menu shows clearly marked GF options, but none were on this revised menu. It did have a notation that GF options were available upon request. He said to just pick what I like and he'll see if it can be GF. I'll be honest, I "think" the server(s) must have called in sick because it was just the owner and the young kid, and the owner seemed very disorganized about serving and it wasnt even busy yet. It took a good 10-15 minutes until he was able to make his way back to us to order wine and a cocktail. His response to hubby's cocktail was that he's not a bartender and cant make a Moscow Mule. I asked if he had GingerBeer (I would walk him through it) but he said no. Hubby drank water, I had a glass of Pinot Noir. I knew things like Lasagne, Ravioli, etc could not be made GF, but the 3 plain pasta options weren't appealing to me. So I asked about the Eggplant appetizer and could it be made a dinner. He said he could make it dinner sized. Sounds good! Hubby got the Veal Scallopini Marsala. It does take awhile to get the food but you are forewarned that everything is fresh and made to order, so we were ok with the wait. My eggplant and sauce had a delicious flavor! However, the portion was small...either they forgot to make it larger (but charged me for it) or it just wasnt sufficient. Sadly, I left hungry. Worse, it was also COLD. I was so surprised! It was so cold that the Mozzarella Cheese was hardened on the inside. And speaking of hard....both hubby and my potatoes were hard and undercooked so we couldnt eat them. The veggies were good, but I also couldnt eat the chewy round parmesan crisps. Husband's Meal was decent, he said the sauce was delicious, but the veal was a bit tough, and again, his potatoes were undercooked and couldnt eat them. So to sum up, service was a bit disorganized and a tad slow (but I really do think someone called in as there was no server or bartender), the food was cold and small portions, BUT.....the flavor was really good! It is a bit of a disappointment to leave a restaurant hungry and paying $80 for a meal. Reading all the excellent reviews I think we just caught them on an off night. My suggestion, take your chances, it is a charming restaurant and the flavor of the food is really good--just try to catch them on a good night! YUM. Fantastic place. Welcoming, great food, great service, great vibe. Live piano player. The food is fresh and real Italian food, pasta made fresh. The veal T-bone steak, just wow. The owner is from Italy, it would seem, and very cheerful and welcoming. Love this place. I almost hesitate to recommend it because I don't want it to become so busy I can't get a table anymore! The 4.1 overall score is probably too low, but I just wanted to report our experience last Saturday nite. When the waiter tells you the specials, it should be part of the process that he tells you the prices also. I asked, and one of the dinner specials was sea bass and was $60. We thought we'd try it anyway and it was excellent like almost everything there. The wine pours were a bit skimpy also. There are sort of two categories of restaurants: 1) chef cooking and 2) not. Do NOT let the fact that this Italian restaurant is in a strip mall. It was recommended to me from a friend who said " you will enjoy the food". I not only totally enjoyed the amazing food but the service and ambiance of this cute restaurant is worth a try. Really nice menu with all foods made fresh daily. The red sauce was so good I wanted to eat it with a spoon. They have a full bar and a piano in the dining room. Make reservations on the weekends they close early so don't miss out!! read more

who knew... The spot is so hidden in a strip mall if I hadn't gone to the breakfast place next-door I would've never known it was here. Inside is larger than it looks from the parking lot, the service was fantastic... Very friendly, the maître d' made you feel like family. They have a great selection of Italian favorites and some American choices... They've got a great Instagram where you can see the specials. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. read more

I was a little reluctant as we drove up to this restaurant in a strip mall, but when you walk in it is very charming. The food is excellent as well as the service. I had the chicken piccata and my husband had the special of veal steak with tomato sauce and mushroom ravioli. For dessert we shared cannoli and were 5 small ones, very delicious. Well another great place we found in a strip mall. First time there and left with nothing but good things to say. The place is tastefully done and tables are not jammed together. George was our waiter and he certainly was on his A game. The evening was a dining experience, no rush, good timing on appetizers, salad and entrees. They make their own pasta!! This restaurant serves authentic Italian food to us in an atmosphere that does not make you feel like you are in a strip mall in Oldsmar. It's charming, the food is delicious and I highly recommend the flourless torte at the end of the meal. If you are too full, which is likely with all the yummy dishes, take it home. Me and my husband ate here for our first time recently on a Saturday night and had a great experience. Griffin was our server and he was attentive, knowledgeable and gave great suggestions. The atmosphere was modern chic and there was a talented pianist playing during our experience. I ordered the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina which was delicious and my husband had the lasagna which was also delicious. Handmade to perfection. This little Italian restaurant is walking distance from our home and we absolutely adore it. A very delicious as always meal - pictured is their chefs special ricotta and spinach ravioli with red sauce. I always show case this spot when given the chance; it comes unmatched. We came here as we were craving Italian food and a martini. The location is a bit misleading as you enter the strip mall, this place is tucked away in an odd location for an Italian restaurant. The owner is awesome, he greets, waits tables, checks on everyone, and is very friendly. It also helps that he appears to be from Italy :) The space inside is a bit strange, very open. Overall the food and service was great. We ordered a few apps and entrees and everything was fantastic from a quality/taste perspective. The prices are also quite low for quality Italian food. Loved this place! Located in a strip mall off Tampa road & not visible from it. Reservations are a must. Interior is a lot of white with tables spaced out with a pasta making section & a nice bar. Service was top notch from start to finish. We enjoyed the house salad, veal marsala (very tender, yummy sauce & the homemade pasta was to die for), Filet w/Barolo sauce & mushrooms (delish), espresso, & a shot. They were so thoughtful to wrap our leftovers container with plastic wrap so that it didn't leak. Definitely a place I will come back to when I am in the area!! read more

I wanted to love Casa Cosenza but it just fell flat for us :( The staff were incredible - friendly, attentive, knowledgeable. They kept the glasses full, checked on us often and were quick to answer any questions we had. The location is in a strip mall off Forest Lakes and Tampa Rd which I know for some may be off putting but I know some of the best tasting food comes from places like these. To start they give you some bread and butter (I think it was butter? It may have been a cheese spread) with some bread stick like things. None of it was very good. Then we started with the Tagliere Amalfi (it's a charcuterie board) and it was pretty good but small for the price ($16). It came with three meats - mortadella, cappicola, prosciutto and three cheeses - asiago, provolone and I can't remember the last. There was only like 3 pieces of each and then there was a tiny tiny bit of jam and some honey. Luckily we saved some bread otherwise we wouldn't have anything to have it with. For dinner we had one of the specials - a truffle ravioli which was great if you realllly like truffles but it was also very expensive. We also had the Pollo Piccata and the chicken was a very strange and unappetizing texture, it was almost gummy. The last main was the Ravioli del Giorno with red sauce and it was not great, tasted of pesto maybe? it was just not very tasty and for $20 ravioli I expected more. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu which was very good and the Profiteroles which were really disappointing. They were spongy, kind of stale tasting and filled with a very little amount of unsweetened cream, then topped with a chocolate icing of sorts that was extremely bitter. All in all, we loved the staff and the ambiance but the prices and food were not worth it. read more

Disappointed. Made reservations a week in advance to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our table was next to a large party of 30+. Needless to say it was very loud and noisy- not romantic. The service was good and so was the food- good not great. The highlight was the lemon cello. Everything else was just ok- sorry perhaps our taste buds were impacted by the loud noise from the huge party next to us. Had an absolutely delicious dinner at a beautiful restaurant with wonderful service. There is a full bar and an extensive wine list. We loved everything about it. It was a beautiful atmosphere with a gentlemen playing piano but not so loud that we couldn't talk. All of our meals were absolutely delicious, the desserts were also wonderful. Gem of a place that I'm glad it's been around for a while. I was afraid that this was a new place that could go out of business. The waiter told me that it has been here for three years so I feel more secure. Still, do yourself a favor and check it out. If it wasn't for Yelp, I wouldn't have found this place. If I ever own a beach house, this is the decor I want - all blues and whites. It was empty except for us at lunch on a Saturday. It was rather on the late side, about 1 p.m., but still, I expected to see it more packed. I hope it has a crowd at dinner. On Saturday, they served the dinner menu at lunch, so I'm guessing the lunch menu is reserved for the weekday. I'm glad because I was planning to order a dinner dish. Thanks to Yelpers, I knew to try the meatloaf. Super random, but it got glowing reviews. Add this one to it because I adored the meatloaf. It has a slightly sweet, pistachio flavor. I will get it every time. It's on the more dense side. This is not your mama's meatloaf. I also got the Tagliatelle Italia. I was a little disappointed with the pasta. I know it was made in house so I expected it to be exceptional. It was good, but it didn't taste as fresh as other homemade pasta I've tried. We started with the Bruschetta Della Casa and they had a special appetizer of burrata. Both were amazing. The tomatoes in the bruschetta are fresh and juicy. I highly recommend the bruschetta. What a find!! I found this wonderful piece of Roma in Oldsmar! The food was amazing. My Italian husband was pleasantly surprised, and he's the picky one. It is a lovely and beautiful space to enjoy your meal, live piano music, and impeccable service. Our server, Griffin, was very knowledgeable and caring. Very Nice! It was a Saturday night and pretty busy. We had a reservation and received a nice table. The place is charmingly decorated and quite comfortable. A pianist was playing--enjoyable and not too loud. The servers were all very capable and friendly. My Negroni cocktail was nice, but a bit high-priced. My only disappointment was with the list of wines by the glass. Prices were reasonable, but the quality of the chosen wines wasn't as high as it should be. For food we started with the Parmigiana Melanzane appetizer. It was delicious. The marinara sauce was excellent. The Caesar salad was a bit skimpy in size, but nice. We had a Lasagna Napoletana which was very good and a Pollo all Boscaiola that was quite delicious. The chicken dish came with some very nice green beans. The bruschetta was the best thing we ate, but the bed of arugula was old and dried out. The fettuccini primavera arrived and was so beautifully plated. However, the flavor was really, truly awful. Eh. I had been wanting to go here because we had a couple friend a few years ago that ranted about it. I had a craving for lasagna so we made reservations on a Friday night and went with some friends. It's in a strip mall, but I tried to not let that bother me. Once inside I noticed the floor is jacked up (the vinyl boards don't meet) in multiple places, dingy white hanging dividing curtains, LED purple lights. The decor as a whole is nice-ish but out dated. There's white table cloths, a fire place and live music which ordinarily would give classy vibes, but it was just not coming together. The few guests there were all much, much older. Like 70+ looking, so maybe the decor was working for them. The other waiters and perhaps the owner (hostess) were outgoing, helpful and very friendly, but our waiter was absent, slow and was very impatient with us. Twice we had to grab a different waiter to ask him for assistance (ie water refill and our bill) because our waiter was MIA. The wine was good and the food was ok, but not amazing. I had lasagna and I've had better, but for the price it should have been amazing! It arrived burnt top and hard corners and just warm- but it was hot inside so it was fine. My husband had Chilean Sea Bass which he had the same experience "good, not great and way over priced." Our friends felt the same about their meals and dessert. This, coupled with the lack of service and the decor, was enough to say "well that was ok but we won't come back".... But then we got the bill. First of all our server would not do separate checks so we split the bill down the middle. Altogether the bill was $300 (before tip) for 1 bottle of wine, 1 cocktail, 1 appetizer, 4 entrees, 2 desserts and no service. Just not the experience our friends had ranted about.
