My girlfriend and I both have a love + passion for art and make it a priority to visit a few art galleries during our travels. It's something we enjoy doing together. After arriving to SD, we checked into the Del and went for a walk down Orange Ave. We were lucky to notice a charming art gallery right across the street. We had never seen it before. Walking up to the front door i read a sign saying that viewing is by appointment only. Since we love art so much i called an made an appointment for the next day at 12p. The following day we showed up 15 minutes early to see the door was open and someone was there. Sean (the owner) greeted us at the door with a smile and charm that matched the gallery. As we walked in we felt the presence of the collector. Pasionate, clean, intelligent, charming and elegant. The art displayed on the floor is just magnificent. The fung shui and layout of the gallery was fluid and easy to peruse. As we continued to look around we discovered a painting by LaDiva Ruan. It was of the Hotel Del Coronado where we were staying. The combinations of colors, techniques and skills were just flawless. I had always wanted to bring a piece of the Del back home with us. I wanted to buy it. Being a bit of an art connoisseur myself i knew how the game worked. Or at least i thought lol. After negotiating a bit we made a deal and I bought the piece. Everytime I see it in my home I think of Sean and his warming hospitality and his charming gallery near the Del. The memory is apart of the art. Sean is extremely knowledgeable about the history of art and definitely educated us on a few things. He told us a few funny stories about the artist and unique facts about the hotel. I look forward to stopping by again next time I'm in town. 5 stars

I'm so thrilled that the Emerald C Gallery has landed here in lovely Coronado right by the beach,…read moreby popular eateries and The Hotel Del! This gallery is a true treasure to the community. This is no ordinary gallery; not only do they have events highlighting their artists, they offer sip and dips, where a professional artist guides you and friends in creating a masterpiece you can take home (wine/beer provided while painting)! Also, I recently attended the writers on the 13, where on the 13th of November the gallery invited 13 local authors to read from their latest book(s) published. My Mom was one of the featured authors and it was an amazing experience to see authors get the floor and promote books and meet fellow authors and community members who cherish art in every form. The gallery itself has the most exquisite art, jewelry and novelty items you could imagine. I loved all the different artwork the gallery had to offer and you will enjoy Penny who runs the gallery; she is the hostess with the mostest!!! If you're visiting or live on the island, this is a must visit, you'll be enchanted. *Sign up to be on their E-mail list for upcoming events. There's always something going on and sip and dips are every week.*

I came across Hector's website a couple years ago and I always knew I wanted to take his class but at the time I wasn't able to. I recommend this class 100%. Hector thank you for teaching us. I will continue to practice and excel my photography skills. What can I say I had a great teacher

This review is for Hector's Long Beach class (combined class 1 and 2)…read more AWESOME and worth the $150 we spent for the day's class. This class was scheduled for 830am-700pm and actually went longer till almost 900pm. We might of took longer (10 total students in the class on 2/5/11), but Hector and his friend Enrique stayed longer to finish the class without additional fees, etc. Hector loves his job and he loves photography and teaching. You can tell. He puts a lot of effort and time to his classes and there's a lot of one on one time if you need. The day was almost picture perfect but was a bit overcast in Long Beach (Shoreline area) this Saturday. But it was a great day to spend a Saturday in photography class. I learned how to set up my Canon 60D DSLR camera. Aperture, ISO, shutter speed, white balance, timer, etc...etc! You learn a lot from the class and I can't wait to take the 60D to the motorcycle races soon. One, Two, One, Two...thanks Hector. Great class, I recommend the class to anyone looking to learn how to use their SLR cameras. Don't take a class with a school or a camera store, not worth it. And don't be intimidated... CANON RULES! =) http://www.learndslr.net/#39 www.dlsrclasses.com

Bread & Salt is a former bakery that has been transformed into a space for artists and exhibits…read more The space is open and airy , with large arched windows, and I really appreciated the details that still show pieces of what the building used to be. You can still feel the industrial character of the space while the large open doors create a nice airflow, especially when it starts to get crowded. We were there to see the Raices del Campo solo exhibit and it did not disappoint. The artwork was exceptional and you could really feel the energy through the colors used in the paintings. The artist even had a vintage Tecate cart sitting near one of the entrances. It was such a fun touch, fit the vibe perfectly and was refreshing. I can always appreciate an art show at Bread & Salt. I love the way the space brings together its vintage industrial roots with modern art and creativity.

The catering company also there to serve people food, but then they made people buy their own stuffs and put all the free food away for themselves, we never heard of the food again. Show started at 7:30 PM, they just made people hanging out in the lobby, only a certain amount, the rest still have to wait outside in the cold, no food were served what so ever, the catering company put out the food, then the organizer boxed them and promised it will be ready for everyone after the show. Then the problem with seatings, they really don't know how to seat people, so they randomly picked people and put them to whatever seats available, then everyone else had to stand in the back the entire time. Finally the technical issue, sound and video went out of sync, camera and microphone didn't work half of the time. I understand this is low budget indie blah blah blah, but you really wasted everyone time, and you didn't get your act together. You should have done sound check and rehearsed. By the time they couldn't figure out how to fix the problem, they just let the rest of the show went on, then apologized. There was no free food, and if you wanted to buy food, the catering truck also gone. Really Bread & Salt, you need to allow more quality events to be in your venue. Please!
