I've ate at this place numerous times over the years but it's just too inconsistent to give it anymore than two stars. The chips were hard and stale tasting, cost more than other places, and we was charged a surcharge for using our bank card, We were not informed prior to our visit it was not on the menu and it was not posted on there doors, I went back to check and when I brought to the waitress attention she did not care. When one is hungry and traveling through rural areas, food can be a bit hit or miss. This was a hit. We were greeted right away and given huge spiral bound menus once seated. Our waiter took our drink order while we were reading through the huge varieties of Tex-Mex options available. The space is colorful and decorated with Mexican and Southwestern art work. The room is a bit noisy. The ambiance is very casual, family style utilitarian. Our Margaritas came right away along witha basket of warm chips and salsa. The drinks were huge! I orded the "small" and it lasted me for the whole meal. It was a good drink, not the best I have ever had, but most satisfying after a long day on the road. Our food was brought right away and the portions were huge! I had the Frajitas Casa Brava. I couldn't decide on chicken or beef, and the waiter said I could have a mixed grill. Great idea. The platter was heaped with very spicy strips of chicken an beef with grilled peppers, onion and tomato all in a piquant sauce. A separate plate had refried beans, rice, pico de gallio, sour cream, guacamole, and shredded lettuce. Warm flour tortillas were also included for me t construct my own little envelopes of yumminess. All was very good, but I was only able to eat half. For people with smaller appetites, a single serving would be sufficient. All in all, it was a very good experience. The only misstep was my dining partner waited quite awhile after the food was served for his second Margarita. The restaurant was quite busy, and our server apologized for the delay. The chips were two totally different batches mixed into one basket - some light, crispy and fresh, others dark, oily, and heavy. Salsa good. Cheese dip watery & thin. Food mediocre at best. Some items look like they come frozen then they drop them into the fryer- just tastes old/not fresh/freezer burnt-type taste. This place used to be so good, it has really gone down hill. The place looks great. Staff seemed friendly but the food was an utter disappointment! I ordered carne asada took one bite and was chewing for 3 mins. I asked to switch the asada for beef instead and was told I could not do that because I had taken a bite. I said how would I know the steak was dry without taking a bite? He said no cannot change. I asked for management and then he said he could change it. I was hoping that the beef would be so much better but no it was too salty. If you have high blood pressure, choose the chicken. This place was horrible. Came here with my dad. Took forever to get a server. When we finally got our food it was a mess and tasteless. The tortilla wrap was so hard that I thought I broke my tooth. At one time my dad and I sat there with empty glasses during the meal for 15 minutes before I had to chase another server down to get a drink. But when they want their money they amazingly show up at your table and hover around until you get up to go pay. Won't be back and neither will my dad. read more

I had the quesadilla Jalisco and it was so cheesy and delicious, they brought us out a huge pile of chips and salsa!! My wife had the fajita Jalisco and she loved it. She had the Malibu hurricane drink it was delicious while I had the medium margarita. The thing that really bothered me about the food was that my favorite mexican item is a chili relleno. They're passing off a GREEN BELL PEPPER as a chili relleno. If you're OUT of the real thing, tell your customers that you're out, but don't go trying to pass off something else! Maybe their customer base doesn't know the difference in a chili relleno and a green bell pepper, but we do! The Casa Brava's in Bloomington have never pulled this crap. I was in the area for a motorcycle vacation and stopped in for dinner here one nite. This restaurant served up some fabulous Mexican dishes. I had the Carnitas. The pork was marinated perfectly. The best part was that the portions are HUGE! You definitely get your money's worth. The waiter was great as well, keeping our drinks filled and was very attentive to whatever we needed. This restaurant could be one of the better ones in this immediate area. For the most part, the food tastes good, the service is good and friendly. The problem is...and I don't want to come across like I'm attacking Casa Brava...they are CONSISTENTLY bad in their restaurant inspections. I am a local resident to Casa Brava's location and I eat out a lot, so I keep a close eye on the inspections which are published in the local newspaper. I also have several years of restaurant management experience, so I tend to be a bit more focused on issues the average customer doesn't look for. Casa Brava has had multiple inspections with 5 critical violations. They have rarely had less than 3 criticals. For those who don't know, critical violations are those that can cause the health department to close the restaurant. These are the violations that put the customer at risk of food-borne illness. If the management/ownership can ever get these issues under control, I would be comfortable in giving a good recommendation, but until they do, in all honesty, I have to say stay away. read more
