Lunch with mi madre.
Casa Blanca, Malakooff.
The hot sauce is tasty, real mild.
The queso blanca that comes complimentary is smooth and buttery.
The queso flameado, thick, velvety.
The chicken tortilla soup- massive, hearty, delicious. Lots of shredded chicken, the thickest chunks of potato I've ever had in a tortilla soup. A delicious marrying of flavors. Real mild.
The rice was light, fluffy, flavorful.
Honestly, I could use more heat, but, that's something I could have fixed at the table.
This would actually be the perfect chicken tortilla soup for old white ladies that don't need the heat.
So, you know, let all the old white ladies in your life know they need to try this.
Mi madre was really pleased with her street tacos, but she wouldn't stop yapping about how good the beans were.
Whole way home, she was raving about the beans.
We may have almost got in a wreck and raving about them. Seriously, would I lie?
Most of this came home.
I think it was like $34 and change, and let me tell you, it's an enormous amount of food for that in today's economy.
I've got like, 3 full bowls worth of soup, and a glob of beef flameado and chips in my fridge waiting.
Service, excellent. Friendly, helpful, charming.
I'm looking forward to coming back.
It's a beautiful day, East Texas.
I hope you're enjoying it.
