Extraordinary. The service was perfect, the restaurant had this exclusive feeling to it where you can't even walk in without knocking on the door. The front door, this old wooden looking door, had this old-school metal knocking mechanism because otherwise, the door is sealed shut. White tablecloth dining and romantic, family, friendly vibes. The actual food was very good as well. We tried three of the paella dishes, a couple of the appetizers, and we're blown away by everything. This felt like a treat. The one interesting thing about the menu is they have a couple of salmon dishes, because apparently one of the family members is Norwegian. Food 10/10 Wow. I think I had the best salmon filet here, so tender and soft that it melted right in my mouth. The tomato salad was superb too. The complimentary bread came with butter scraped right from the barrel, apparently imported from the best butter maker in the world in France. They scraped the butter from the barrel right in front of our eyes and also cut the salmon at the table. The paellas were also very unique and had a modern twist. We ordered one that was rabbit meat and the other was ribs. Loved the crisp of the rice and the desserts too. One of the best meals we had in Madrid! Even our Uber ride dropping us off mentioned that this was the spot. The restaurant itself is very homey and has lot of family decor. The way you enter is also very interesting as you have to knock on their big door to be let in. As others mentioned in the reviews, smoked salmon dish is a must. I was looking for good spots to get paella near the stadium and somehow stumbled upon this gem. In the center of Madrid there is also great paella but also a lot of tourist trap paella that is super mediocre so I'm so thankful I found this spot online. This small restaurant is super adorable with amazing service, we showed up a little bit early for our reservation and they were able to see us after short weight which we really appreciated. They gave us some complementary vegetable crudites as well as a delicious complementary soup. I forget exactly what the name of the salad I ordered was but it had salted fish in it and I am still dreaming of the salad weeks later.....even if you aren't big on salted fish you HAVE to get it. The paella was also of course delicious, the super sweet waiters serve it to you directly from the special pan, and for those who aren't seafood people the chicken paella is really good. Highly recommend taking a Tour of the stadium and then walking over to the spot for a delicious lunch afterwards! Casa Benigna and its staff were absolutely wonderful! It was recommended to me by a Madrileño friend as having the best rice, and that was totally accurate. I will be dining here every future trip to Madrid. I dined alone tonight, as I am on a work trip, and the host (or possibly the owner?), a lovely and warm lady, could not have been kinder. I was trying to practice my Spanish, and she was so patient and attentive. The rest of the staff were helpful and prompt too. I can't speak more highly of their people. Now on to the food! Everything was fantastic and top quality. I ordered the tomato salad for a starter and the traditional chicken and vegetable paella for a main. I ate every bite. Love this place! They serve great paella, so far the best one I've had in Spain after visiting five cities. They have 5 different flavors of paella and since I love squid ink I always ask them to make mine with squid ink. The GM/owner Edward was very friendly and accommodating. They serve imported French butter in buckets, I thought it's very interesting and fun to dig your own butter from a bucket. The service's great! Everyone here was very friendly. Make sure you make a reservation in advance. Also, they do open on Sundays! I've been here twice, once at night and once in the afternoon, I definitely enjoyed the afternoon experience more. I have to thank the Concierge Andrea at the Westin Palace! We asked for really great Paella and he recommended Casa Benigna. It's a little off the beaten path, about a 10 minute cab ride north of the center of Madrid. Has a very homey feel to it. There were a few complimentary starters, crudite, green olives, and delicious refreshing gazpacho. The butter is from France and comes to the table in a huge bucket. Our waiter Ryan could not have been any nicer, super attentive. He really recommended the house smoked salmon, and I have to say it was the most delicious bit of food I've had in Madrid. That's saying a lot because we've had some stellar meals here. The fish was incredibly moist and succulent with wonderful smokiness. My wife is not a big salmon fan but she said it was the best Salmon she ever had. Funny, cause we came for Paella. We ordered two types of Paella, seafood and chicken with vegetables. Both were really delicious. The portions were just right, and the cappuccino came with a tiny cup of warm dark chocolate to dip your cookie in. Everything was simply delightful. Wow. My wife and I are visiting our son who is studying in Madrid for the semester. We wanted to take him and his two friends to dinner. We asked the owner of Mojie's (Luis) for the best Paella in Madrid. He said hands down Casa Benigna. Boy was he right! We had the hotel concierge make a reservation for us. It took a half hour cab ride to a remote road where the only sign for the restaurant is a Paella pan hanging from the awning. The door was locked when we knocked. It was answered by the owner Norberto who treated us like family. The atmosphere is so cozy, it feels like you are having dinner in his family's kitchen. Norberto is from Vallencia. The seafood paella is cooked with Thai rice. Deep seafood flavour throughout the dish. Texture profile was excellent with crunchy rice, soft rice and chewy cuttlefish (27 euro). The iberico ham paella came with complimentary short rib (omg). Cooked with bomba rice, there's a hint of smoke in this supremely rich dish. Every grain of rice is flavour packed (25 euro). Highly recommended. For appetizer we also tried the smoked salmon - big big big smoke flavour. Eat it with the sauce to tone down the salt hit. (18 euro) Note: complimentary dishes: 1) lentil and ham soup 2) short rib 3) home made bread basket (with giant tub of butter, olive oil and balsamic vinegar), 4) bacalhaus 5) chips 6) veggies with guacamole 7) cookie and hot chocolate - these all came out to a total of 12 euro. This is, hands down, my all-time favorite dining experience. From restaurants all over the US, to Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, France, and Portugal, this is the Blue Ribbon. I ended up needing to spend an extra night in Madrid with my wife and three children due to a flight cancellation on our way to France for a wedding. I came here with high expectations but I wouldn't say the paella here is 'authentic'. Service, presentation and ambiance were top-notch, so the rating is solely based on the authenticity of paella. My friend and I both felt that the paella is a fusion of Asian and Spanish. Don't get me wrong it's still decent but we felt that it resembles a more smoked version of fried rice. We wanted a killer paella experience while in Spain, with a lot of research Casa Benigna came out on top. We switched our dinner reservations to lunch, which I recommend, as the restaurant is far from central Madrid. It took about 35 minutes via metro... but worth the trip! Hands down the best smoked salmon I have ever had, we had the seafood and chicken paella... surprisingly we loved the chicken more. To drink we had sangria, a little sweet for my liking. Went based on the rave reviews posted on Yelp and it did not disappoint. The owner himself greeted us at the door and once seated went on to tell us about himself and his passion for making paella. The seafood and pork paellas we had were really incredible and the sangria might be the best I've ever had. For appetizer the owner bought us a smoked salmon on the house that was simply amazing. The location is outside the normal tourist area in a residential neighborhood slightly north east of central Madrid. (I think if my sense of direction is correct). We stayed by the US embassy and easily walked the 1.3 miles to the location and back as we really needed the walk after all we had eaten. We wanted to have a nice paella during our stay in Madrid and found this place which is well know for it. The price of the paella (we took the 2 versions of the seafood that are each 28 euros) is maybe a little bit expensive as I would have liked to have more seafood. But I have to admit it was delicious. There is also so much free stuff (olives, salami, soup, raw vegetables, chips, small dessert) that I was really full at the end. The place is somewhere not in tourist area and we took taxi from central Madrid costed about 15 euro. It is open at 9pm so we arrived at 8:45pm. No wait, the waiter was very nice to accept us. The decor inside is literally quite homme feel and very artistic. We were offered bread, some traditional Spanish tomato soup and homemade olive oil to begin with. We ordered 2 starters and 2 different of 1 and 1/2 portions paella as the waiter recommended. The way they cook paella is different than other as seen in pictures. The salmon was cooked for 6 min and that's why still uncooked inside which I like it. We got some cookies with dipping chocolate melt as complimentary. Truly the recommendation was honor and reasonable. Just personal opinion that both paella were little salty for me but overall is good. The son of the owner came to greet every table and willing to answer all the questions. We took pictures with the owner and her son on the way out when we met them. The owner is a very sophisticated and beautiful lady. The son is actually a musician, a singer and he gave my husband his own CD as he knew my hubby sings too. The total experience is fantastic. What a wonderful place to enjoy the best possible paella. In a country full of friendly, fun places , this might have been the most on both scores. A dining room lined with cookbooks and mementos serves host to an incredibly helpful and friendly waitstaff who will keep you engaged and laughing all night long. And the food is pure artistry - from the starters, to their own olive oil, to the wonderful paellas/patellas. If you want paella in Madrid this is it. The guy who started this place is some sort of paella mad man on a quest to make high quality paella that meets all of the characteristic standards. I didn't know this but apparently you're supposed to be able to turn a paella pan sideways. All your sideways paella pan dreams come true here. The place is very small and seems like a home on the inside due to the decor. Make a reservation or roll the dice. Yes, the operating hours do stop around 4 and resume at like 930pm. They have a good selection of wines as well as paellas along with starters and desserts. As some reviews already said it's on a random small street without a lot of signage and we did have to knock.
