However as we were seated, the imagery of Rome was destroyed - the waitress(Kasia) was so rude. She did not make the effort to talk to us apart from throwing the menu at us and snarling something. The meal came and my faith was restored, the food was nice and definitely peaked my pallet. The joyous occasion of the food was soon overshadowed by the waitress returning and giving us the bill and ran away before we had the chance to pay. Finally 15 minutes later we were able to pay and leave. We waited for our change to be returned but after waiting for a substantial time we left. Overall great food (4/5)but poor service. The other staff were very friendly and welcoming.

I like the decor inside, it feels snug and the waiters are running around trying to keep everyone happy. The service tends to be good and the portions are a good size although it's best to start off with some yummy garlic bread if you are only going to have one course. I recommend the pasta with courgettes and shrimps, probably the best meal I've had at Scalini's!

I got on the metro at Central and got off again at Jesmond. From there it was a ten minute walk, if that, to the restaurant,,and after a call to the restaurant, was straight forward enough to find. My table was booked for 7.30pm, but there were already quite a few diners seated and eating. Staff were pleasant and helpful, and I was welcomed by the owner, who then proceeded to seat me, offer me a menu and take a drinks order. Antico is Italian food at its best, but without the exorbitant price tag often associated with it. Portion size is very good and unlike in London, where I am from, you don't need a telescope to find it. There are a wide range of choices on offer, enough to suit most people's requirements. For my meal, I ordered: Starter Spending Di Pesce Pieces of tuna and king prawn, freshly cooked, and served with lemon and on a bed of green leaves. Main Course Pollo agli Asparagi Chicken in a cream sauce and asparagus. A portion of vegetables/potatoes comes with the main course. Dessert Salted caramel cheesecake My meal was excellent, very well presented and tasted quite superb. The desert came as a recommendation and well worth it was too. Combined with a large diet coke, my bill came to £29.90 plus tip. I felt the price to be very reasonable and you could have paid less, depending upon your choices. It was very obvious by the way people were coming in that this establishment has many repeat clients. Certainly the staff are friendly enough and they deserve to do well. One thing I like about Antico is that you are not hurried in any way. The meal is there to enjoy and savour and that's what I did. I was there about 90 minutes, and really enjoyed my meal. Reservations are highly recommended as tables fill up very quickly. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone and if I was back in the area, I'd happily return.

The menu was full of Italian standards, and seemed fairly inexpensive.  I really had no expectations as I'd heard nothing about Uno's before, and the whole family was pleasantly surprised by how good our lunches were.  We started with whitebait and calamari - I didn't taste the calamari, but the whitebait were piping hot and perfectly crisp.  Even my 20-month old loved them, to my great surprise!  The calamari came with the Sunday lunch - only £14.95 for three courses, and my mother-in-law thought the sea bass (Chef's "fish of the day" option on the Sunday deal) was absolutely gorgeous, and it came served with bright vegetables.  My husband and I shared a lovely Rustica pizza (£9.95) with a crisp crust, juicy tomatoes, lots of parma ham, Parmesan shavings, and rocket.  Even better was the spaghetti meatballs - not an enormous portion of pasta, but the meatballs were abundant!  For £9.95 you really get your money's worth in the meat department, but more pasta would've been nice!  However, the meatballs were truly a cut above.  They really reminded me of...well... meatballs that I would cook.  You could see inside them the onion, spinach, herbs - they were not uniform, hard balls - they were hand-formed and full of different ingredients besides meat, and they were soft and delicious.  The toddler really enjoyed them too! Desserts - sticky toffee pudding and tiramisu - were just fine.  Classic and well-presented, but not staggering. Everyone enjoyed their meal, even those who are normally quite hard to please, and we all felt it was a little unassuming gem of a place.  Would absolutely come back next time we are craving Italian!
