The glass of house red was delicious, the service as ever, attentive and polite. Families are always welcome, but single diners are just as valued. This would be a lovely restaurant in which to introduce children to dining out properly - formal enough to feel special, friendly so that children will relax. I never ever eat anywhere else when I visit Newcastle for shopping. Why would I want to go somewhere that could only be second-best to this. The negative review here must have been the work of a malicious rival. Either that or he/she was in a different restaurant.

The owner said they wouldn't do that and got a single mussel in the kitchen and placed it in the microwave,...no splintered shell. However, I said it had to be in the sauce. I'm not sure she was convinced, and neither was I. The sauce was very nice, but marred by the splinters of shell. A good selection of wine. I had the Pinot Grigio - 175ml (£4.65) with the mussels and glass of Shiraz - 250ml (£5.95) with my steak. Also, had a bottle of Peroni when I first sat down. I did ask how old the steak was and told 21 days and sourced locally. I had the Filletto Pepe (£19.95 with chips), and wished I hadn't had the sauce. There was nothing wrong with the sauce, but as it was said to be 21 days old, I was playing safe. I shouldn't have done, and should have had it just as it was..... It was sublime. So tender and melt in your mouth. The chips were good too.... I was stuffed... Total bill £38.85. Although she put a lower figure into the card machine; I pointed out she was paying herself less....
