I've spent months in Switzerland now and one thing that's been lacking was not just good Mexican,…read morebut even elevated Mexican. El Alebrije does both, and the passion is seen everywhere. Their menu is smaller, but it has the necessities and you can't go wrong. The drink menu is top notch and the cocktails are amazing. I was also fortunate to a stop by and an odd slow night and had some time with Miguel, the owner, and got to hear the story of how the place came to be and got a tour as well. It's going to. E a regular stop when we're in town for sure.

El Alebrije is in a lovely spot because all I have to do is jump on the 7 tram and, shazam, here I…read moream! Woop! I like how sort of tucked away this place is. I like the location. The people working here are very friendly and attentive. The cocktails are fantastic. I was really impressed with them! And the jalapeño margarita is freaking spicy, but yummy. So, the food was good, but I wasn't completely blown away. We ordered the vegetarian tacos, and the stuffed poblano pepper with vegetarian filling. We came here with some good friends and they ordered the same, except with meat. Funnily enough, my husband accidentally got the poblano pepper with meat, and didn't realise it until he ate half and I had a taste. What an absolute goob... some "vegetarian". But I digress. I really appreciate how much care they give to their customers and I do love their cocktails. Their food is very expensive for what we ate. Yes, we only had vegetarian (sort of... haha) so maybe the meat options are a bit tastier. In the end, we had a lovely evening.

Really tasty burrito! I was with two buddies, and we each got the same thing - Big Boy Burrito…read more That & a bottle of beer was CHF20. Really not bad for this expensive town. Don't be scared off by their "Ring of Fire" sauce. Not too spicy for us three Americans, since we're a bit more accustomed to picante, being Norteamericanos. Nice bright decor, in a newer development about 20 min via train from the Hauptbahnhof. Lots of space, and the toilets are tres chic. We ended up staying about 2 1/2 hours chatting, and the owner (as well as his employees) were exceptionally cordial. He told us he worked in finance in Zurich for seven years, then felt he should do something legal. ¡I'm definitely returning to Zapote!

Oh yes! Zapote has been said to have the best burritos in town, and while I don't agree that…read morethey're exactly *in town*, they certainly have some of the most awesomest burritos I have ever tasted in ZH! My husband and I came here after a friend recommended the place. They have a huge array of different burritos and burrito bowls, all of them customizable. I had the chicken salad, which is essentially a burrito salad but a little lighter and my husband had a gaucho burrito, with beef and bacon. Both dishes were incredibly delicious. The salad featured a peanut dressing and fresh guacamole and the burrito a generous helping of meat and barbeque sauce. Soooo good! I like that they offer healthier alternatives in addition to the staple burritos and the restaurant is so nice and open. In addition, the staff is very patient, helpful and upbeat. It was a thoroughly good experience. Another reviewer wrote that they were a little like subway. I don't like this comparison because Zapote's ingredients are actually really fresh, their staff is upbeat and knowledgeable and their food is actually tasty. A small problem for me is the location, which is really not easy to get to and their opening times. They only open from 11 to 15 o'clock and are closed on the weekends. Basically, they only open for the lunch crowd. Their delivery radius is also not extended enough that they could actually deliver into the city which is a bit of a bummer. I guess I now have more reasons to go to Wallisellen more frequently :)
