But then they started letting people in again? It was really confusing. I don't think their parking situation is very good. Wonderful production with some of the best voices I've heard on at a smaller venue. Sound quality is good. The Live band up on stage is really cool. Makes it great with the acoustics of the room. There were some points where I felt like maybe the mics weren't quite attached to the person's head correctly and it got a little too far away from their mouth. I think that's bound to happen when the actors are seen in dancing. Seats were pretty comfortable. It was super easy and quick to get in even though it was jampacked. Nice little courtyard where you can wait until they open up. The men's room is not my jam. I hate that pee trough instead of a urinal. Pretty cool that you can walk straight into the restaurant after the play. Perfectly centered in all the little shops. Next time, definitely wanna catch another show and make a day of it in this area.

They do have a bar area and a popcorn stand. I went for their 90 minute cat video event. During the preshow I learned that this is the oldest theater is America! How crazy is that! They have some fantastic shows coming up including many tribute bands as well as movie showings. I'm really hoping to get tickets see Joan Osborne singing the songs of Bob Dylan. Not only did we get to enjoy a night out in this charming town, but we also had the chance to be part of a place filled with history and character. Walking into the theatre felt like stepping back in time in the best way--warm, classic, and full of heart. The ambience was absolutely perfect. The cozy, intimate setting made the entire experience feel personal and inviting. From the moment we walked in, the energy was welcoming. The fresh-popped popcorn added that nostalgic movie-night touch, and the bartenders and staff members were incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely happy to be there. Their hospitality made the night even better. We came to see The Ultimate Doors, and what a show! The sound, the vibe, and the atmosphere all came together to create a memorable night. It's rare to find a venue that feels both historic and alive, but Newtown Theatre gets it right. We would absolutely love to visit again. If you're thinking about catching a show here--do it. An old-style independent movie theater with a great selection films, friendly staff, and modern picture and sound. Was here this past Saturday for Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein" and got a matinee ticket, soda, and popcorn, for twenty-one bucks. Can't beat that kind of a deal these days. Hopefully my next visit here will be in the near and not distant future. I love this theater!

We attended Monsieur Chopin - a one man show featuring the story and music of pianist-composer Fryderk Chopin. The premise was you were a student attending a music lesson given by the composer. The interactive 2 hour play was amazing with it being written and performed by Hershey Felder. As far as we could tell, the show was sold out on the night we attended. With numerous restaurants in the area as well as easy on-site free parking, it was a very enjoyable night.

I stopped in this past weekend to see "Murdering Marlowe". I'm no stranger to the arts, but wasn't sure what to expect, especially since I didn't get a chance to read about the play beforehand. I was surprised by the size (or lack thereof) of the Old Academy's auditorium. Their seating area can't handle a huge audience - but is that really a problem? The venue's intimate setting does make performances more personal; it was easy to become absorbed into the characters on stage. In particular, the actor who played Marlowe was a hoot! (Check out their show!) The Old Academy Players is a not-for-profit, largely volunteer-driven, community theater so if you've time to spare, sign up for their mailings and see where you can help!

They were very hospitable, much moreso than theaters downtown. For example, they offered refreshments during intermission, and a champagne reception after the production for opening night. Other playhouses do similar things, perhaps asking a modest fee for refreshments, etc., but it's normally one or the other (refreshments or reception), not both. It just was a few small touches like that that made us feel welcome, even when a long way from our neck of the woods. Thank you, Old Academy, for a great production, and since your season boasts some heady plays that look like they have some real content and intellect to them, we look forward to going back. Please note, we found no designated parking lot (may have missed it). They are in a residential neighborhood so we found a spot, but on show night these spots are few and far between... had to park a bit far, so be prepared to walk a bit (noting shoe type and foul weather).

My mom won their Wednesday ticket special so we got 2 free tickets to the Countess Luann cabaret show. Will I say it was good, yes and no, it was the type of performance that was so bad it was good because you just had fun laughing the whole time. Overall the paramount is a nice theater easy to get too, plenty of parking in the lot adjacent to the theater or the garage down the street
