Every part of my experience was great. There was a problem with my authorization. Amanda called me *2 days ahead* to get it corrected. Most other docs don't even check until I show up for my appt. The day of my appt all the staff was very pleasant and helpful. Especially reception. Becky, the nurse, and Emily, my dermatologist, looked at me, asked questions and answered mine. Becky told me everything she was going to use from soap to numbing agent. She verified each one with me prior to using it. Wow! I really appreciated that! Emily didn't even hold a chart or tablet. She looked at and engaged with me. Such a pleasure to have a doctor be present at my appointment. They both explained everything they were doing and were very clear about follow-up. During my last annual wellness check, my primary care physician recommended I visit a dermatologist - I am old, white and spent lots of my teenage and young adult years basking in the sun and doing some minor skin damage along the way. She recommended Carson Dermatology. From setting up the appointment, to checking in, to seeing the PA-C, to checking out, the whole procedure was seamless and easy. The waiting area is attractive and comfortable and staff are all friendly and professional. I saw first hand how they handle unpleasant impatient people. I was on my way up to the counter when a woman pushed in next to me and started berating the receptionist about why she was being made to wait for so long and lots of other people were going ahead of her . . . etc, etc. The receptionist dealt with her hissy fit in a calm professional manner. I had the privilege to be seen by Brianne Madsen who was kind, very informative, and reassuring that overall my skin is fine and there is nothing to worry about - no signs of skin cancer. She made some recommendations for dealing with my dry skin. Her approach was to let me talk first and then ask questions, determine my level of understanding, and then provide some options for treatment. I never felt talked down to or marginalized. I would highly recommend this practice. And yes, I am willing to drive all the way down from Reno if a repeat visit is needed. read more

Checked in about 30 minutes before my 10:15a.m. appointment (Sept 3, 2025). Insurance cards were scanned and all paperwork completed and was told I was checked in. I won't go too deep into why I came here but essentially, I had this nasty scabbing on my scalp that seemingly came out of nowhere and had no idea what it was. After trying to self-diagnose and self-treat to no avail, I admitted defeat and made an appointment. Making the appointment was fairly easy. I called the number, gave them my info and a preferred date, and they put it together. They then emailed me the new patient forms to complete prior to coming to help expedite the appointment. Thankfully, the Doctor knew exactly what it was. He took one look and definitively diagnosed the issue. Nothing serious and completely treatable. Everybody from the check-in clerk to the nurse who set me up in the exam room to the Doctor himself were great. No complaints. read more

I have been a patient at Carson Dermatology for 9 years. I cannot recommend this medical provider high enough. Dr Alan Tack is absolutely wonderful. I had a basal cell removed from my nose, of all places, and the scaring has been minimal. He also removed a mole from my arm and once again scaring was minimal. You would really have to look for the scar to see it. I am a repeat patient; I'm seen on an annual basis. If you are looking for a dermatologist, this is the place to be seen. Everyone in this office are kind and friendly. I would suggest that everyone be seen by a dermatologist at least once every few years. Melanoma is nothing to fool around with. My husband and I have been going to Carson Dermatology since we moved to Carson City 18 years ago. Dr Tack is amazing, he has saved my husband from skin cancer many times because of his expertise in identifying things that I would never think are bad. I go every year for a full body check, and he treated me once for alopecia on my scalp. The treatment was successful and the hair grew back I have never had a problem again. The office is beautiful, the staff extremely helpful and courteous. I referred an elderly patient to him when I saw a very angry looking thing on her for head, Dr Tack identified it as melanoma and it was a complicated removal. When I saw my friend I couldn't even see the scar on her forehead, it was virtually invisible. Today I went to Carson Dermatology to see Dr. Janice Jones. What a wonderful experience if you can say that about a doctor visit. I was met with a friendly staff for check in. I did not wait long in the waiting room due to the efficiencies of the staff. I did not have time to finish a game of cribbage on my phone when Monica came to take back. Monica was very professional and knowledgeable during my entire visit. Dr. Janice Jones did a complete check of an old mans body and took care of all issues. The last time I went to this business, they removed two spots, that got INFECTED! When I called about it, I was told to wash it more with hydrogen peroxide. I got a good antibiotic cream from a medical professional in my family and ended up treating it myself. I was stunned to receive a bill over TWO YEARS after I moved out of the area! I paid the original bill with a bank account I no longer have, and through Medicare. NOW they are sending the account to collections! First, infected removal sites, then terrible customer service, then billing YEARS later so I am supposed to go back and find bank accounts after I am no longer even with that bank? I love going to this place and who really likes, let alone loves going to any doctor. I'm 53 and starting to pay the price for lots of time in the sun when I was younger. Dr. Tack and Jenny are fantastic. They know their profession and are fun people to boot. The young ladies in the front office run an efficient operation. This was an absolutely fantastic facility. My primary care provider sent me here with a referral to get a mole removed. I was quickly checked in and seen by the PA, Melanie who agreed I needed to get it removed. I then scheduled my surgery for that next week. My mole is on my cheek about 3/4 of an inch under my left eye. Given my age and the fact that it's on my face, it couldn't be freezed off. On the day of my surgery I got there early and was subsequently checked in early. My nurse, Molly led me to the room where they would do my surgery and I gave her the basics on everything. I then met my surgeon, Dr. Adams and he told me everything I needed to now about what was going to be done. Despite how anxious I was, he managed to make me laugh several times and he also listens to my favorite kind of music. Molly injected me with lidocaine, which made me very drowsy and my cheek numb. Even as Dr. Adams pushed the scalpel into my face, I couldn't feel a thing. And before I knew it, he was done. Dr. Adams then told me more about aftercare and side effects from the lidocaine. Right now the lidocaine is wearing off so I'm experiencing pain in my face, stomachache, and drowsiness. That's nothing that ibuprofen and Tums can't fix. Despite the pain, I'm happy I got this done. This mole had lost it's color and was gradually growing bigger, so it has given me and my family anxiety just watching it change. It can be a little bit of a hassle to get a mole removed even if it's benign, but this is the best place to go to. read more

I see Dr. Jay Adams. I have been very please with him. He takes the time to explain skin cancer and other issues. He has performed surgery to remove some cancer from my face. I think he did a great job. His office staff is great especially his assistant. I have not had to wait an excessive amount of time when I have scheduled appointments. I have been to few dermatology offices and this one by far has best decor and is the most technologically advanced. They have hi-def tvs on each side of the wall to help you not die of boredom. They also have in-patient surgery room. This location is far from where I live (about 50 min drive). There was a lot of traffic this morning, but they were more than accommodating to me being 15 minutes late and still honored my appointment. This is something not really seen in a doctor's office, and I was seen within 5 minutes of checking in. The staff is always friendly in greeting me when I get there. I went in for my annual dermatology check up at Carson Dermatology and brought up some concerns I had with my doctor. One of them was discoloration on my face. The doctor said it was melasma and recommended that I talk with the cosmetic side for treatment. It was recommended that I have a laser procedure done. I could purchase 3 treatments in a (expensive) package so I opted for the 3, since it was recommended and a bit cheaper than buying one session at a time. After the first treatment, I noticed a slight improvement in my splotchy skin. After the second treatment the following month, there was no change at all. When I went in for the third treatment I let the doctor know that it seemed like the second treatment did not work. She didn't really have much to say about it. She went forward with the third treatment and I went on my way (with little to no results). I called a few weeks after that treatment to let them know that I was not satisfied. My splotchy skin was the same as before the treatment- possibly even worse. At the first treatment, they had recommended a specific sunscreen to wear so I bought that and diligently applied it daily. That didn't work either. I threw it all away. I called to let them know how dissatisfied I was with the treatment and even spoke directly to the doctor on the phone. She said I could come back and pay for another session. I said, why would I do that when the 3 sessions obviously did not work. Either they misdiagnosed me with melasma or the treatment just doesn't work (and they don't care). I told the doctor on the phone that I will never come back for the treatment and would never recommend it to anyone. After that, she recommended I try hydroquinone and she wrote me a prescription. I wish they would have recommended that in the first place, before I spent a ton of money on a procedure that did not work at all. read more

I have only gone to the dermatologist once before and it was here. I had what I felt a thorough exam for just a cancer screen. This time I felt I was looked at very quickly and only my legs and arms and face. The last person checked everywhere! Then I had a very small planters wart on my foot and was asked if I wanted it easily taken care of with the liquid nitrogen or whatever it is that freezes them off. I said sure. I was in the exam room for no more than 10 min. Felt like 5. Anyway. I know my insurance isn't the best but wow, I had no idea. My visit was over $250. Then I got a bill weeks later with them charging me another $250. I thought I was double billed but they told me that was separate for the wart removal! I know its not up to the doctor to know your financial or ins info but I felt they can let you know before they offer something like that they at least say this is an extra fee as it is considered a procedure. I had no idea and wouldn't of had him do that. If he said this is a procedure, I would have asked if it costs more or how much extra will this be. He was so nonchalant, like no big deal, and did it in 5 seconds. Anyway, my bad for not asking but when i called there was just no empathy and they just blew me off. I probably won't go back again just because of customer service. Changed to 1 star now from what I just also experienced with their billing department. I read a few reviews on here also saying they had issues with them. The billing co. They used were actually very nice but don't have their "you know what" together. I called about my bill discrepancy and the women I spoke with said she was confused by it herself and that she was placing my bill on a hold and to not worry about paying until she figured it out. I assumed I would receive a new bill soon. 30 days later I received same bill. I was intending to call again, double check it was correct and pay them. 2 days later I received a noticed I was being sent to collections in 5 days (this was Friday evening so couldn't call for 3 days) the date on that was posted 10 days earlier from the day I received it leaving me only 2 days to pay after the weekend. I called them and gave them a payment and they said I was clear from being sent to collections. It was showing pending in my bank account. I assumed it was all taken care of. 4 days later I received the same full bill from the collection agency! I looked at my bank account and the charge was gone. They reversed it and still sent me to collections after I called and payed them! WTF????!!! I couldn't believe it! How do you run a business like that????? I will never return.... for the office visit situation and especially now for their billing practices. You really need to change the billing company you use. I'm sure many more people have had this experience who just never said anything. There are a few reviews on here complaining of the same issues. read more

I ran into this facility by chance. I called the wrong office to gather my appointment information and Josiefina answered the phone. She was so kind, helpful, and so happy and told me where I needed to call. After I called the correct office and found out they scheduled me in Reno rather than carson and treated me unkindly, I canceled my appointment and called Josiefina back. Not only is Carson dermatology less expensive for cash pay patients, but they work with your finances and offer payment plans. the doctors, nurses, & other medical help {not the billing personnel - they are great & have empathy}, but the rest of the medical professionals {idiots} that work here : especially dr. adams & his staff ; are so discouraging & apathetic to the concerns and mental wellbeing of the patient ! my girlfriend went in to have a spot on her arm looked at {just happened to be melanoma skin cancer} and without any action of being concerned or empathetic to her , they came right out and told her she was going to die - no explanation - no compassion - no concern for the mental twist they just threw at her - just said " you're going to die from this ! " !!! they came right out saying she needs to go to san francisco to the melanoma cancer center - instead of going right next door to the cancer center in carson city. she ended up going to reno & dr. james harris at western surgical for help ! but dr. adams & his crew are a real piece of gutter crap & i wouldn't send biden or pelosi to these inconsiderate pieces of gutter garbage !!! read more

Professional office. Nice staff. Clean and orderly and such. However, after a routine exam for a couple rough spots on my nose and a skin tag on my neck (I'm 55, usual stuff), nothing was determined to be cancerous or problematic. The visit was literally 10 minutes tops.... two quick freeze shots and $500 later, I went on my way. Two weeks later, both problem areas healed up and were in the same state as before. When I called back and gave my status, I was advised to come back in.... presumably for another $500, 10 minute visit that was surely not guaranteed to be done to my satisfaction. Just don't go, unless it is serious and you need pro help. You'll get the usual "it was coded this way" or "talk to the billing department". No reason to spend $10,000/hour for sub-prime routine care. read more

I had an appointment this morning at i10:30 with one of the technicians to have a skin tag removed... I checked in and the girl at the front desk informed me I'm not on the schedule what??? after a 30-minute drive to get there the next question she ask me who did you talk to when you made the appointment?
