I actually paid a visit to Carruber's cafe when I was taking part in an event within the Christian Centre. I was absolutely starving when I noticed it, and couldn't wait to get something hot down me as it was a freezing cold winters day.
The cafe itself doesn't scream of Christianity, apart from the odd Scriptural quote here and there on the walls, and the décor isn't too bad, but not very modern. The food is so cheap though, ranging from £2 for some soup to about £4 for sandwiches and soup, which is perfect for what I wanted that afternoon. I had some classic white bread sandwiches filled to bursting with cheese, and a bowl of lentil soup.
I was on my own at this point, and one of the lovely workers there came and chatted with me whilst I had my lunch, they are all so lovely in the centre! Regardless of religion, everyone is made welcome, and the place got busier and busier with shoppers and visitors alike, all stocking up on some awesome traditional scran. The thing I remember most about going to Church was that the women there made thee best cakes ever! This place is no exception. I had a slice of Malteaser cake (if you haven't tried it, then do it now!) and it was so yummy!
Give this place a go, for a really cheap and tasty lunch in an otherwise expensive area. You'll be made to feel welcome no matter if you believe in God or whoever..... read more
