Had the pleasure of staying here for 5 days. Very nice converted motel type hotel. Rooms are very clean, decor is updated and bedding is very comfortable. Great stay-Very happy! The outside was a little scary, looked like an old-school motel and belied what the room would be like. They had contact-less check in which worked fine, you call when you get there and they talk you through getting into your room but also offered check-in at the desk if you preferred. The room was obviously very recently re-done and everything was brand new. Tasteful renovation and top of the line everything. Clean and bug-free. A little on the smallish side but comfortable. Very comfortable thick mattress, great pillows and nice linens. Aveda products in the bathroom along with Moen fixtures. New A/C unit. Flat screen TV in the room but only basic cable. Keurig coffee-maker in-room with supplies. Refrigerator with room for your stuff. read more

Booked this hotel based on the photos online. BIG MISTAKE!! Upon arrival I found a motel that looked like it had seen better days and a clerk riding around the nearly empty parking lot on a skate board! I asked him to cancel my reservation which he agreed to do. Then I received an email from Hotels.com telling me that Carriage House refused to cancel my reservation because I did not comply with their cancellation policy. I never stayed a single night at this place and was charged over a thousand dollars! I filed a complaint with my credit card company and got nowhere! This kind of scam should NEVER have happened and I am sick to my stomach about the way I was treated! I will NEVER book through Hotels.com again and will NEVER recommend this hotel to ANYONE!!! read more

This place was better than I expected even though what I expected was pretty good. Had a nice cup of joe each morning and an easy check in. Had full control of the temperature in the room. I wonder if the windows open. It was winter so the heat was needed. Thank you for the nice accommodation and cable tv next to the funky late night game café. read more

My parents stayed here recently on a visit to New Haven, CT. They could not say enough good things about it. My mom kept commenting "it's so homey." She said it felt like an oasis in a desert - very beautiful & charming. The owner was so warm, friendly & welcoming. She even helped them carry their luggage when she noticed they were elderly & there's no elevator. They didn't have any noise issues and the location was convenient for what they needed. read more

My family and I came up from NJ for the wake and funeral of our youngest cousin and stayed one night. During uncertain (covid) times, I chose Carriage house given it was 5 mins from the funeral home, it was smaller and (did not have many) but had great reviews. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hotel manager upon. She had a mask on and did curbside check in for us and let us know she turned on the ac in our room already. Initially I had only booked one room bc I wasn't sure if my parents were going to stay the night. They decided to stay and we ended up getting an additional room. Both rooms (23 & 25) were absolutely spotless, spacious and really well decorated with their own personality. During our time of greivance, we had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at the Carriage House. Thank you so much for your hospitality and wish you many more guests success in the future! read more

Do not stay here. They are deceitful , scamming, unethical liars. Stayed there over this past weekend. The second night I woke up to go to the bathroom then after went to close the window. I slipped and tripped and put my hands out to break my fall and I hit the AC unit and broke the 4in by about 6 In plastic flap lid that covers the controls. Probably about $.20 of plastic. They decide to charge my debit card $250. I was planning on mentioning it upon leaving but we were running late and I simply forgot. When I called to talk to them about the man I spoke was belligerent , condescending , a jerk. I tried to talk to and work with them but he wouldn't. He then proceeded to lie to me and say they had someone look at it before they charged me. Problem is they called my cell phone and charged me 10 minutes after we left. So there was no way they got someone there in 10 minutes obviously. That is how horrible they are. They are super quick to just up and charge you without even discussing it with you. When I confronted him on that , he admitted he lied. He tried to say they need to replace the whole panel which again is a straight up lie. Just looked online and that $.20 piece cost on average $10 from Hotel Supply Vendors. If this is how they treat customers then this place won't be in business too long. They are looking to make a quick buck off honest mistakes and accidents. Mentioned this to a friend of mine who stayed there awhile back when they came back into town. Him and his wife had a similar experience with they being dishonest liars. So Do Not go here. They are deceitful , Unethical liars. read more

This was a gem of a hotel! Well-located and just delightful. The room was charmingly decorated and all of the furnishings were comfortable and in great shape. It was super clean! We enjoyed that there was a hard surface floor with a rug by the beds. No carpeting! The layout of the room was ideal, with lights where you would want them and a chair in a great place to not disturb your traveling companions in the morning or evening. We loved the bathroom and luxurious towels. We would recommend this for anyone visiting Yale or the area. read more

Upon arriving I approached the check-in area when the door was opened by a very friendly face with an even friendlier, "Hello, welcome to the Carriage House, are you checking in?" Her name was Michele who turned out to be the clerk and a housekeeper for the hotel. The owner, Renal,, was friendly and informative as she checked me in. The room was clean and modern with a mini fridge and microwave. The shower had plenty of hot water. The beds were comfortable The hotel is sandwiched between the main road in Hamden (Whitney Ave) and the highway. Despite this, with the door closed and the ac/heater unit on, the traffic noise was barely audible. I have two major complaints. The first is the placements of the electric outlets, the nearest outlet was across the room away from the bed. If you didn't have at least a 10 foot cord you'd have to leave your phone on the other side of the room. The second complaint is the WiFi. Renal told me that the WiFi is spotty but it wasn't even spotty more like non-existent! Overall a nice place but they really need to work on the outlet and WiFi situation. read more

I give Carriage House five stars for what it is: a simple, clean, convenient, independently-owned motel. Plusses included a cathedral ceiling (perhaps where an attic used to be) and fun decoration like a modern yellow amoeba design rug. The manager phoned us before we departed in case they needed to make arrangements to receive us after nine pm. On arrival, the manager was so friendly and welcoming. She didn't blink an eye at our request for extra pillows which wound up being an absurd amount of pillows--we didn't realize that each bed would already have four. One small suggestion: more table space or a desk would be welcome. We filled up the available surfaces as couple with an 18-yr old daughter. Our lovely stay concluded with an added bonus: a stupendous breakfast diner across the road. Hamden Town House diner. Carriage House is located just off the Wilbur Cross Parkway in Hamden CT. It is a great (and less expensive) staging point for a visit to Yale or New Haven. [We stayed there on a overnight visit from Boston to the amazing Yale Center for British Art, a 16-minute drive from Carriage House.] You can also park your car in one of the New Haven train station lots and have a full day in Manhattan without the expense of a $400 Manhattan hotel. Its convenience to the Wilbur Cross Parkway also means that Carriage House would be ideal for a long trip if you're just passing through on your way up or down the East Coast. read more

The Carriage House is a hidden gem that I am so glad to have found! Due to my long daily commute, I have stayed at the Carriage House an average of once a week this academic year, and every stay has been exceptional. Each room was designed personally by the innkeeper (Rinal) and is furnished uniquely and tastefully. Most importantly, every room is immaculate, from the spotless white linens to the perfectly clean bathroom! Rinal takes tremendous pride in the quality of her establishment and her devotion to personal service is unmatched. In my 70+ years, I have never stayed at a finer place. read more

The Carriage House proprietors are absolutely lovely women and their establishment is a wonderful option for travelers who value ease of access, cleanliness and reasonable rates. I booked for a Friday night in August so a partner and I could meet up in-between where we each live. I received a call on the day of check-in to confirm my arrival time and a special request that I'd made during booking on Expedia (removal of any down/feather bedding as I'm allergic) and Rinal also asked if we had any other requests for our stay. She generously agreed to provide us with a late check-out, which allowed us a bit more time together and was most welcomed. Don't judge this book by its cover - the proprietors are renovating the hotel room by room; ours was thoughtfully furnished with one of the most comfortable King beds that I've ever had the pleasure to sleep in while I was on the road. My partner and I will gladly stay here again and if you're looking for a hotel in this area then I heartily encourage you to give the Carriage House a try - it's terrific now and will only get better! :) read more

We booked this budget hotel/motel for the low price and from the outside we were expecting a typical bare bones motel. However, to our surprise our stay here was quite pleasant. This place is awful! The manager lied to us about not having our booked room, even though we had our reservation. He was belligerent and not helpful. He also told us our service dog could not stay there - we called about that a week earlier and were assured service dogs were welcome. NEVER stay here. read more

This place was an awesome surprise! Booked on Expedia after reading great reviews. I was in town for only the night to attend a wedding. I called before I left RI to see if I could check in a little early. I was answered with great customer service (sometime a rarity in New England) and accumulated with no problems. When I got there, I was a little unsure as we pulled in because you can tell that the hotel is an old building but right away, you could see that it has gone through a major renovation. The lobby is super cute and I immediately felt like I was in a boutique hotel. I especially loved it because I love Home Goods and it was decorated with Home Goods style. The room was decorated the same way and I felt like I was staying in a friends beautiful guest room! Every room is decorated with different furniture picked out by the owner instead of it being cookie cutter. After we left, I called to let the front desk know I had left. I was asked how my stay was and even asked how the wedding was because he remembered. That is the type of customer service that makes me want to give people my business. If I ever have a reason to come back to the area, this is where I will stay! read more
