I'm by no means a drug seeker, but have been on a drug that has worked with me for the past decade. Dr. Rai was very professional and honest about his inability to help me switch from my current pain managment provider and have him continue my medication. He did make sure that my co-pay was refunded before I left the office. While, he could not help me, I do have respect for him since he was straightforward and honest. I do wish they would be more upfront about their practice's inability to prescribe controlled pain medication so that others know ahead of time.

It took days of repeated calls, messages, emails, before I was ever able to get through. However they were able to make an appointment within a few days. For the consultation, the doctor seemed very confident that he knew what the problem was and suggested doing an injection. Did not discuss any other possible treatments (i.e. medication), just insisted the next step was to come back for an injection. I went for the injection and it went fine. I had more pain for the next 7 days than I did before coming in, and after that I felt no pain relief at all. I came in for my scheduled follow-up appointment and was exactly on time. I sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes and then came out to remind them that I was waiting and that it was 30 minutes past my appointment time. The person there said something like "oh you're probably next". I told them I had another appointment after this and could not just wait around indefinitely. I waited another 10 minutes and still no doctor showed up. I decided that I could not stay any longer as they were well past the appointment time. I asked if we can reschedule for a less busy time. They said the next available appointment is 30 days out! I asked if they think it's right that the doctor did not show for my appointment and now I have to wait 30 days for another chance? The scheduler told me that even if I come in after 30 days, the doctor may still be not on-time that day and that I have to just sit there and wait. At this point I decided to just leave and go someplace else. Their treatment was not effective at all, their office staff is impossible to get a hold of since they don't answer the phone or return messages, and if they can't keep their appointments then it's really a deal-breaker for me. Instead, I met with a genuine, down to earth, personable doctor that actually listened to all my complaints and I mean all of them lol. Not just "my back hurts," but also my entire medical history. Dr. Desaloms already has my MRIs up on a giant screen ready to review my issues. This office clearly invests in top-notch technology, and it shows. Love his PA Stephanie (extra bonus points for having her in his back pocket!). He's not the kind of neurosurgeon who pushes surgery just because he can. I may need it someday, but right now he's focused on what's best for me. That kind of organic, patient-first approach is rare. He didn't care to read it, a secretary said he wasn't obligated to read the mri since he didn't order it and dropped me as a patient after expressing how awful everything was going for me in my life due to this. 15 mo post op c5c6 fusion.... one simple layer... i'll never understand, but i am willing to pay 10k to d13 w VAD because of the debilitating pain i have been suffering in since 35 yo til now 38 yo.... almost graduated NP school, and couldn't, just 3 semesters away.... life i worked so hard for, completely ruined. I was catfished at my appointment when the doctor who walked in looked (decades) older than the doctor pictured on the website. I came for an acute problem and I felt like the doctor didn't listen to me. He "educated" me by pointing at pictures in a laminated book. He must really like to educate because he went through the book with me on each of my visits. He kept recommending NSAIDs without seeming to want to get to the root of my problem. He was over 30 minutes late to my appointment (I've waited longer for other providers), but it was the way in which he handled the appointment that rubbed me the wrong way; he made my time feel rushed and blamed his need to rush on the fact that his front desk doesn't like when he runs behind. He seemed flustered moving between exam rooms to see patients, saying that he'd be back to answer questions, but never returning to the exam room. There was also a billing issue that took several months to resolve. This issue would not have occurred if they verified my insurance, like I advised. The billing issue was resolved after diligent follow up, otherwise I'm not sure if I would have been refunded. Needless to say, the time spent at his office was a complete waste and my issue was not addressed to my satisfaction. I have since gone elsewhere for a second opinion and am doing so much better and way more satisfied with the level of care and attentiveness.

Two weeks later,…read moreI got my EOB for the claim from my insurance company, which stated that I was responsible for $146.49 for that visit, meaning that I was owed $21.37. I called their billing department and the person I spoke to confirmed this. They said they could either request a check or that the credit could be applied to a future visit. I chose the latter since I had a follow-up scheduled. I went to my follow-up appointment today and the front desk told me I owed $113.16. I asked if that included a credit and the girl at the front desk told me there wasn't a credit. I explained the situation multiple times, showing her the EOB summary and the credit card charge from my phone. After some back and forth, she and another girl said that I had to pay the full $113 or reschedule and they would not honor the credit, saying that their "higher-ups" had told them this. I called the billing department later and spoke to the same person as before, who told me that they should have honored this credit. I should not have had to pay more than what I owed. I will for my insurance to process the claim for today's visit and will call the billing department afterwards to discuss how to move forward, being that I don't have any more visits, but this could have been avoided if they had just honored the credit.
