F & W Floor Covering - Product we used and loved

    F & W Floor Covering

If you need new carpet, F&W is the place to go. We did our homework. We shopped around town and…read morevisited every carpet store. We got lots and lots of samples and the carpet we were looking for was available at every one of the stores in town (under a different brand name with much less warranty at a big box store), so it was very easy to price compare. We even went to the manufacture's website to verify the price and warranty info. And, just to be sure, I called the manufacturer to verify availability. We asked for bids from four of the stores based on our impression of their store and their staff. We really liked how we were treated at F&W. Just enough attention to answer our questions but no pressure to do anything. F&W was the only store to show up when they said they would. They also accurately measured our house. (One of our bids had an extra 150 square feet added to it; as if we wouldn't notice. That place also wanted to put seams in each room, but more on that later.) F&W's bid came back within in couple of days. Others took over a week and we had to call to track them down. F&W was also much less expensive than every other bid. Now you might say you get what you pay for, but most of them were in the same ballpark for labor. We ended up needing about 900 square feet of carpet. The difference we noticed is that the others tacked on extra costs for the carpet despite being the EXACT same carpet in each bid. Not only that, but F&W gave us their bid including 9# padding. The other bids were with lower quality padding. And in the case of the place that added extra square feet to the measurements, they also wanted more for removal and disposal because they were relying on that inaccurate measurement. So, naturally, we went with F&W. Before our carpet arrived, we decided to move around some furniture, do some repainting and the like. Since we were on a roll, we decided to remove our old carpet ourselves. We found one seam in our entire house; not seams in every room. When F&W showed up, they were quick, efficient and professional. It actually took us longer to remove the old carpet than it did for them to put in the new carpet. In fact, I timed them. From the minute they brought the first piece of carpet into the house to until it was fully installed was 2 hours and 32 minutes. And wouldn't you know it, they only needed one seam. Even more interesting is that it ended up in exactly the same spot as the old seam. And despite knowing exactly where they put it, we can't find it. It's completely invisible. The other place wanted to hide our seams behind furniture and using natural lighting and other such nonsense. When I went to pay F&W the final payment for the carpet, much to my surprise, they subtracted labor costs from our original bid because we removed the old carpet. I totally didn't expect them to do that. A couple of things we learned about this process that we'd like to pass along. Some of the carpet places have installers on staff, but virtually all of them use subcontractors. Also, your carpet probably doesn't have as many seams as you'd think. Bottom line, based on our experience, we would highly recommend F&W.

I'm torn by this review because the installation of the product was professional and it turned out beautifully. It did take quite awhile for them to come to install, but that was understandable due to the high volume of need in my area. The problem I have with the business is that I sent several remnants of carpet with them to have rugs made for my home, and it has been 8 months and I have not gotten the rugs. I have made several calls to the business and was assured that progress was being made. The business has never contacted me in the 8 months. I even left a message asking them just to let me know if the remnants had been lost and there was no reply. The carpet was very expensive and had I known this would be the situation I would have gone with the company I originally purchased the carpet from. This is unfortunate as I really enjoyed working with Matt and his crew.

The original bid was 16,000$ for demo old flooring, subfloor, snap together plank flooring, and base. This project took 3 weeks; the old flooring had to be removed from property by me, and after a down payment of $6,000, I still had to pay an additional $9600. This business charges more than they should and this is unscrupulou!. Bad Business!!!
